Achievements and Performance
As Tring Together celebrated its 16[th] anniversary, the charity emerged from the Covid pandemic, raring to go, celebrating the vision of “Enjoy Life in Tring!”
This year we pivoted, we were flexible, we carried on and our determination has been rewarded. Some of our bedrock activities are swinging back into action (e.g. face-to-face BusinessMart breakfasts) and we have started some new activities that are needed in the town (e.g. the Tring Music Partnership).
We won an award from Dacorum Borough Council for our Xmas 2020 ‘hybrid on-line and carefully-in-person’ event as the best community event of the year.
All of this was only possible because of the passion and creativity of the Tring Together team and our huge number of volunteers, friends and helpers who turned out to do anything to help make things happen.
The Covid landscape
What ended in lockdown, started in lockdown. From January through March 2021, we probably saw the worst of the Covid-19 pandemic with a strict lockdown across the country. People worked from home, shops and restaurants remained closed and tight rules on social gatherings isolated many of us.
When apps tracked, traced, and pinged the nation, new variants of the virus emerged and nobody left the house without a mask or hand sanitiser anymore, there was finally some light at the end of the tunnel – the beginning of the vaccine rollout. This was followed by a phased relaxation of all Covid-19 restrictions, second jabs and boosters. Of course, there were delays and complications, but by the end of the summer 2021, we finally felt some normality return.
Throughout the year in Tring, shops closed, new ones opened, and existing ones reinvented themselves. The town felt very connected with fantastic support networks, a shop local campaign, and neighbours looking out for one another.

Our Big Community Events
The Spring Fayre 2021 was kept as a virtual event, but with lots of activities to encourage people to move outside and enjoy Tring in Spring. Moving into the Autumn we were a partner in Tring’s Own Apple Fayre , helping with marketing and logistics behind the scenes.
The Summer Carnival 2021 took place in August 2021, the date having moved several times as we chased a period of respite from Covid.
The Christmas Festival 2021 saw us, again, changing to accommodate Covid. We ran the event over a longer time, to spread out the crowds. Following the success of 2020, we lit the Memorial Garden, again with the help of Chilfest and Pete White. This was so successful and popular that we hope it can become a regular part of the event.
Tring Together at the Nora Grace Hall. Our eighth year at the Nora Grace Hall was one of tentative opening and risk assessments. We were very thankful for the 2[nd] year of government grants for Covid recovery which kept the hall solvent.
Enjoy Life in Tring! As of March 22, we are looking forward to leading the local groups who will be putting on events for Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee

Tring Music Partnership was created in June 2021 to get community music back on its feet following the pandemic.
Music benefits everyone’s mental health and wellbeing and we want everyone in our community to have the opportunity to take part in music.
With a major grant from Tring Town Council, additional grant from Dacorum Borough Council and funds from event ticket sales we have

Provided musical instrument demonstration and have-a-go sessions for over 140 primary school children

Ran three free youth musical theatre workshops for over 50 young people

Ran the church stage at the Tring Christmas Festival so that school choirs and local musicians could perform

Put on a Big Band concert and workshop for Armed Forces Day 2021. This is worthy of special mention because it was the 1[st] live music concert that many of the performers and audience had attended for over a year. The concert gave us back some of our confidence for event management and really raised the spirits.

Created a register of local music teachers

Ran two large networking events to link all primary school music teachers together and support local music groups to get back up and running in a COVID-safe way

Provided early years music sessions for Tring Tots community playgroup

Supported young bands to perform at Tringfest rock festival at the Court Theatre

Community Group Action. Group Action is our networking group for any local community group, charity, association or sports club. This growing group creates a network to help all community groups liaise better making Tring an effective and working community.
The quarterly community update and the community calendar are building in strength with plenty of activities locally advertised.
Tring Cinema. Remained closed for the year. The planned March 2020 screening of Judy will be the first film that is shown on re-opening in Sept 2022.
BusinessMart. Our monthly meetings continued to get a good turnout of local businesses, even when held virtually. We are thrilled to be back to meeting in person again now.

Members and Supporters
Tring Together BusinessMart
We now have 585 live BusinessMart contacts on our database, compared to 545 last year. During 2021 we maintained a weekly Business Bulletin to prove that “Tring is still open for business” which was much appreciated by retailers and businesses off the High St. However, our USP is the Tring Together team who keep the promise to make BusinessMart welcoming and friendly. During Covid, we also ran 6 NetWalks, which were very popular and introduced us to a lot of local business-dogs. We aim to encourage people to get to know each other, trust each other and then work together.
Friends of Tring Together. We have a scheme that allows supporters to donate a small annual amount (from £10) to Tring Together. In the long term we hope this scheme will enable us to continue to offer our big annual events at no or low cost to residents. We were humbled when ALL members renewed for 2021, despite having a lot less events to attend. We also picked up several new friends.
Donations, Grants and Fundraising. Our fundraising event of the year was “Keep Tring Together running”, a magnificent triumph from one of our Trustees, who ran their first marathon around the Tring countryside. On Sunday 2[nd] May 2021, Henry Grace ran 26.2 miles and raised a huge amount for the charity.
We received a grant from Tring Town Council towards running costs, grants from the Government Covid Recovery fund and grants from Dacorum Borough Council / EU High St recovery funds.
Marketing. Our website is www.tringtogether.org.uk. We have a Twitter account (1822 followers compared to 1787 last year), a Facebook page (2250 followers compared to 1899 last year) and an Instagram page (1903 followers compared to 1498 last year). The @VisitTring twitter account, which we run for the town, has 939 followers, compared to 918 last year.

Charitable Objectives and Activities
The charitable objects of Tring Together are:
“ For the public benefit to promote the efficiency and effectiveness of charities, and the effective use of resources for charitable purposes by not-for-profit organisations and voluntary organisations working in Tring and the surrounding area by giving advice and assistance to enable them to meet their purposes.”
And in 2021/22 the following activities were identified as supporting our objects.

Running the Christmas Festival to provide local charities with the opportunity to raise money and awareness. This was especially important during the Covid lock-down, when they couldn’t run any fund-raising events.

Membership of BusinessMart allows charities access to local businesses to raise awareness and increase support. This continued over zoom in 2021.

Charities have been guest speakers at BusinessMart and Group Action meetings to raise awareness for their causes.

Group Action networking meetings facilitate charities meeting each other to learn and share good ideas.

The Nora Grace Hall is a community hall, available for hire to community groups at a very reasonable price.

We provide opportunities for people to volunteer and therefore help their local community

We pull together groups to work in partnership to get involved in community projects; e.g. the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations have been 6 months in the planning.

We communicate wider opportunities for community groups (and local businesses) to benefit from large events, e.g. Dacorum Business Regeneration, Community Action Dacorum opportunities.

We assist Community Groups (and businesses) to make links and contacts in the town by being a “go to” place for information.

Future Plans
At 31/3/22 our plan was to re-emerge from the Covid pandemic, and look after our team and volunteers. We will restart lots of the good things that we already do and focus on growing our supporter groups; BusinessMart, Group Action and the Friends of Tring Together. With more friends, offering more support, we can do more for the town.
Tring Together are tremendously grateful to their supporters and friends; from individual volunteers who give their time to carry out specific jobs, to businesses who provide sponsorship for events such as the Christmas Festival, and to our Trustees and others who provide advice and wisdom as we set out, yet again, to do lots of new things to help people “Enjoy Life in Tring!”

Notes to the accounts – Accounting Policies
Reserves. The Trustees put aside 3 months expenditure in reserves as a prudent amount to allow for human resource costs and utility bills for the Nora Grace Hall in the event of the closure of the charity. There are no current concerns that the charity is not a going concern.
Basis of accounting . The financial statements have been prepared under the cash basis.
Fund accounting . Unrestricted funds can be used in accordance with the charitable objectives at the discretion of the trustees. Restricted funds can only be used for the particular restricted purposes within the objects of the charity. Restrictions arise when specified by the donor or when funds are raised for specific restricted purposes.
Assets . Tring Together own no fixed assets.
Structure, Governance and Management
The charity is registered as a charity with the E&W charity commission. It is also a company limited by guarantee. The charity’s constitution (memorandum and articles of association) was adopted on 3/7/13 and it joined the charity commission register on 25[th] April 2013.
The day to day running of the charity is delegated to the Operations Team, led by a parttime CEO who is a sole trader (i.e. not an employee of the charity). New members are appointed to fill vacancies by the trustees. Induction of new trustees to the charity is carried out by the Chair and the CEO

Report of Independent Examiner to the Board of Trustees Year Ended 31 March 2022
In order to assist you in your duties under the Companies Act 2006 and the Charities Act 2011 I have carried out a review of the financial statements for Tring Together for the year ended 31 March 2022.
This examination involves a review of the accounting records kept by Tring Together and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also involves a review of the accounts and the consideration of any unusual items and/or disclosures provided. I am also obliged to consider whether any matters of concern have come to my attention as a result of the independent examination that should be included in your report to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention, either:
- which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements
a. to keep accounting records in accordance with the Acts; and
b. to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with the requirements of the Acts and the Regulations have not been met; or
- to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
