## **Achievements and Performance**

As Tring Together celebrates its 15[th] anniversary the charity has just survived its hardest year, but we are still here, ready to go from strength to strength, celebrating the vision of “Enjoy Life in Tring!”

We pivoted, we were flexible, we carried on, so much so that only the Summer Carnival (June 2020) had to be cancelled. All our other activities carried on, albeit in a different format. We ran a Christmas Weekend in December 2020; all about shopping local and “bringing the High Street home”. Tring was very grateful and we had a lot of feedback about how nice it was to “feel a little normal” again, just before we were all locked down again in December 2020. The Spring Fayre (May 2020) coincided with VE75 and saw our first on-line public event. It was much appreciated by residents and friends of Tring. Group Action and BusinessMart moved on-line and were a great support to local businesses and community groups. Our last event in March 2020 was a BusinessMart Netwalk, and then we retreated indoors with the rest of the country.

We won an award from Dacorum Borough Council for our Spring Fayre / VE75 event as the best community event of the year.

All of this was only possible because of the passion and creativity of the Tring Together team and our huge number of volunteers, friends and helpers who turned out to do anything to help make things happen.

## **Big Community Events**

**The Summer Carnival 2020** was already in the planning stages when the first lockdown took pace in March 2020. We realised that the event could not take place and refunded all stall holders. We were very grateful to suppliers who enabled us to carry bookings over to 2021. There was particular sadness as 2020 should have been our tenth year of Carnival.

**The Christmas Weekend 2020** saw us putting market style craft stalls in the Brook St Market Place and the Library Car park. Thanks to Chilfest, we put a large screen on Church Sq, featuring a 90 minute video, curated by Zoey and Vivianne Child. It featured many of the acts that usually performed on our stage; Carrie May School of Dance, Tring Park School for the Performing Arts, @Lex, Chilfest, Walk the Dog, Tring Book Shop, with lots of safety video snippets to remind people about “hands, space, face”. Saturday went well, but the weather on Sunday was atrocious and there were many “no shows” amongst the stalls. However, we soldiered on – and got very wet.

For the first time we lit the Memorial Garden, again with the help of Chilfest. This was so successful and popular that we hope it can become a regular part of the event.

And our last innovation was an on-line Advent Calendar of 24 events, one that went live every day and including such things as Adventures in Craft making a Xmas wreath, a Walk The Dog webinar on keeping your pets safe at Christmas, meditation, yoga, pilates and lots more to keep viewers happy and relaxed in the lead-up to the strangest festive season most of us have ever known.

The **Spring Fayre / VE Day** was the first event to be hit by Covid restrictions and the Spring Fayre moved online. We curated 35 online events into an on-line brochure. We also made a VE75 film, editing together individual readings and performances into a 35 minute commemoration service that was shown on the St Peter and St Paul website. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uLi-B_QEMEc

**Community Group Action.** Group Action is our networking group for any local community group, charity, association or sports club. This growing group creates a network to help all community groups liaise better making Tring an effective and working community.

The monthly community update and the community calendar are building in strength with plenty of activities locally advertised.

## **Tring Together at the Nora Grace Hall**

Our seventh year at the Nora Grace Hall was one of pretty much complete closure. Without the government grants for Covid recovery, the hall would no longer be operational. We managed to stay busy; decorating, cleaning and clearing out, all with a view to opening as soon as we were able.

## **Tring Cinema**

Remained closed for the year. The planned March 2020 screening of Judy will be the first film that is shown on re-opening.

## **Members and Supporters**

## **Tring Together BusinessMart**

We now have **548 live BusinessMart** contacts on our database, compared to 529 last year. During 2020 we moved our monthly Business Bulletin to a weekly publication “Tring is still open for business” which was much appreciated by retailers and businesses off the High St. However, our USP is the Tring Together team who keep the promise to make BusinessMart welcoming and friendly. We aim to encourage people to get to know each other, trust each other and then work together.

## **Friends of Tring Together.**

We now have a scheme that allows supporters to donate a small annual amount (from £10) to Tring Together. In the long term we hope this scheme will enable us to continue to offer our big annual events at no or low cost to residents. We were humbled when ALL members renewed for 2020, despite having a lot less events to attend. We also picked up several new members.

## **Donations, Grants and Fundraising**

We received a grant from Tring Town Council towards running costs and from Dacorum Borough Council to produce the online aspects of the 2020 Christmas Weekend.

## **Marketing**

Our **website** www.tringtogether.org.uk is now maintained by Trish Dowden from Tring Together, making us self-sufficient; to save cost and to allow speedy updates where necessary.

We have a Twitter account (1787 followers compared to 1725 last year), a Facebook page (1899 followers compared to 1841 last year) and an Instagram page (1498 followers compared to 1209 last year). The @VisitTring twitter account, which we run for the town, has 918 followers, compared to 869 last year.

## **Objectives and Activities**

The charitable objects of Tring Together are;

“ _For the public benefit to promote the efficiency and effectiveness of charities, and the effective use of resources for charitable purposes by not for profit organisations and voluntary organisations working in Tring and the surrounding area by giving advice and assistance to enable them to meet their purposes.”_

And in 2020/21 the following activities were identified as supporting our objects.

- Running the Christmas Festival to provide local charities with the opportunity to raise money and awareness. This was especially important during the Covid lockdown, when they couldn’t run any fund raising events.

- Membership of BusinessMart allows charities access to local businesses to raise awareness and increase support. This continued over zoom in 2020.

- Charities have been guest speakers at BusinessMart to raise awareness for their causes.

- Ditto at Group Action networking meetings

- Group Action networking meetings facilitate charities meeting each other to learn and share good ideas.

- The Nora Grace Hall is a community hall, available for hire to community groups at a very reasonable price. Our smaller, green room is just £10 an hour.

- We provide opportunities for people to volunteer and therefore help their local community

- We pull together groups to work in partnership to get involved in community projects; e.g. to commemorate VE75 ready for May 2020.

- We communicate wider opportunities for community groups (and local businesses) to benefit from large events, e.g. Dacorum Heroes Awards, Ashridge Foundation

- We assist Community Groups (and businesses) to make links and contacts in the town by being a “go to” place for information.

## **Future Plans**

- At 31/3/21 our plan was the hunker down, survive the rest of the Covid lockdown, to look after our team and maintain their employment as far as we can. We will restart lots of the good things that we already do and focus on growing our supporter groups; BusinessMart, Group Action and the Friends of Tring Together. With more friends, offering more support, we can do more for the town.

Tring Together are tremendously grateful to their supporters and friends; from individual volunteers who give their **time** to carry out specific jobs, to businesses who provide **sponsorship** for events such as the Christmas Festival, and to our Trustees and others who provide **advice** and wisdom as we set out, yet again, to do lots of new things to help people “Enjoy Life in Tring!”

## **Notes to the accounts – Accounting Policies**

**Reserves.** The Trustees put aside 3 months expenditure in reserves as a prudent amount to allow for human resource costs and utility bills for the Nora Grace Hall in the event of the closure of the charity. There are no current concerns that the charity is not a going concern.

**Basis of accounting** . The financial statements have been prepared under the cash basis, which is a change to previous years. This change makes no difference to the net outcome.

**Fund accounting** . Unrestricted funds can be used in accordance with the charitable objectives at the discretion of the trustees. Restricted funds can only be used for the particular restricted purposes within the objects of the charity. Restrictions arise when specified by the donor or when funds are raised for specific restricted purposes.

**Assets** . Tring Together own no fixed assets.
