Objectives and acuvitias Objects and alms The charity'5 objectives are lo.. To benefit the residents of th8 Newcourt district of Exeter, Devon and its neighbourhood (without dis1inth.on of sex, sexual orientation, race or of political, religious or other opinions} by asswaling together these residents and the relevant local authorities, voluntary and other organisations in a common effort to improve community life and lo provide facilities in the interests of soual welfarè and the I1 gnvironmenl wlh the objective of improving the wndilions of Ilfe for the residents. In furtherance of these aims, the CIO shall: . Communicate local inforrnalion. gathgr and consider sIdents, ideas. eoncems and opinions. . Design, manage and promote activibes. . Consult and liaise wlh local authofilies and olher relevant parties. Communlty Cgntre Thè Newcourt Community Centre is run by the NewUrt Community Associalion under lèase from Exeter City Council. Events and Actlvltl&s The Association use5 rt surplus g8n8rated from lett¢ng the centre lo employ a community and engagement lead. This post IoDks to put on events for the community and identifies way the community and the association can connect. Communlty Infonnallon The assoaalion produces a newsletter penodically through the year which is distributed to hom9s in the area. The as50cialicfi maintains a maifing list of residents and regularfy sond Jt emails to that membership. The trustees a150 meet with lo1 representatives to identify l¢Jcal issues regarding planning, road safety and l¢xal infrastruCre. As part of the work the charity has developed a small grants scheme to hglp activities In the community. This support 15 provided by offering free or reduced hire of the community centre or by paying for equipment which can be used by the community. ongside our trustees we have a number of volunteers have supported th8 work of the Association this year by managing the allotment plots, helping run our communsty discos and supports.ng us at th8 AGM. The charity was rggislered wth the Charity Commission on 12 July 2013 and took over the bank balance as at that date of its predecessor, the unincorporated aslatiOn 'Newcourt Ccthmunity AsKciation'. The NCA is govemed by a board comprising a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 12 appoirbted trustees, of which at lease thirds of the tTuslees must be residents of Newcourt and voting members of the NCA. New trustees are appointed either through being elected by the members or Co-opted by the existing trustees. New trustees appointed by the existing trustees must fetire 8t the next AGM followng their appointment. and one third of th8 trustees appointed by the members musl also retire at the AGM. This ensures that there wll aws be an opportunity for at least ft)ur new trustees lo be appointed each year al tho AGM. A¢hlgvgmonts and rfOlanCe The centre continues to be well used by a wdo range of users induding many public service bodEs. Mik Ratcliffe continues to manage the day to day running of the centre. During thè year we undertook number of improvements ID the cenlre. We inslallod a new door codg system and a new CCTV system which has made opening and closing the centre much easier. We said goodbye to our cleaner Njareh and our Saturday cover Emma and were able to recruit Angel lo tska on both roles. Our community eThJagèment Lisa Gordon has developed over the last 12 months. We have put on number of events for families during the school holidays wth the Animal Man sessions, Lego Club and our Halloween Disco being the most popular. We were able to open a new communrty cafè area in conjunction wth café owner Andrew Hendricks. This has proved popular, and we hope to bring this back for the 2024 summer season. We carried out an art project wth Trinity Primary School wth the resultin9 art work being put on display al the ntre. We trialled distribution of our newsletter via Royal Mail for the firsl time to see rf that method of delivery increased awareness of the associab'on within the community. As part of the Assoaalion's small grants scheme we provmded the followng support.. 12 free hire sessions at the Newcourt Community Centre for the Newcourt Wl, Neweourt Toddlers run by Trinity Church and The Coffee Club. Free hire sessions for the Newcourt and Countess Wear Community Builder Emma Wonnacott A cash grant of £2,475 to the Friends of Trinity School IFOTSI for their new playground equipment Fffte hire sessions to the local Police Community Support Officer for n8ighbourhood engagement sessions. . A cash grant of £159 to r8place the community book swap shed on Vemon Crescent Paid consultant fees for the Omaha Drive l River Plate Road Bend project. The Association also pledged £5.000 lo Trinty School for improvements to their facilities and up to £10.000 rf needed to support the junclion safely v40rk on the Omaha Drive River P181è Road Bend Project.
