Shop revenue also increased by circa 15%. The good news for 2024 was the museum was reaccredited. Thanks to Sarah and Michala for their hard work in securing this. Accreditation is necessary to allow access to various funding sources. The music events continued to be a success and source of revenue, unfortunately the weather was not always helpful with some very cold evenings. A planning application has been submitted to redevelop the open cart shed as a flexible meeting/exhibition space. This will be available for a variety of uses, incorporating a food preparation area for pop-up cafes and private hires. Much work was carried out in preparation for our “Warm & Dry” funding application of 388K to Arts Council England. Many meetings were necessary with Historic England, Specialist Architects and contractors, costs relating to this application were more than £14k and contributed to a net loss in the museum accounts. As I write this in April 2025, I can report that thankfully we were successful and work to re- roof, insulate and repair the building will commence in late 2025. Financial pressures caused the museum trustees to re-evaluate the staffing levels. Sarah Maultby left her position as Museum Collections Manager in July 2024 for a post as curator at the Yorkshire Air Museum. Michala Pearson, the Operations Manager, decided to move sideways into the NHLF project manager post. The decision was made to run the closed season without a museum manager, employing Leonie McKenzie from the NHLF project for one day a week to keep the museum ticking over. The preparation for appointing a manager in 2025 started late 2024 and a manager will be in post for the new season. Once again, the Christmas Fair and raffle was a great success with total takings of £2,077. Thanks to all the hard work the volunteers put in to organising this event and the continuing contribution to the upkeep and operation of the museum. Having satisfied myself that the accounts of the charity are not required to be audited under Part 16 of the 2006 Act and are eligible for independent examination, I report in respect of my examination of the charity's accounts carried out under Section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under Section 145(5)(b) of the 2011 Act. ## **Independent examiner's statement** I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe in any material respect: 1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the charity as required by section 130 of the 2011 Act or by section 386 of the 2006 Act; or 2. the accounts do not accord with those records; or 3. the accounts do not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a ‘true and fair view’ which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination. I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached. ACCOUNTING POLICIES** ## **Basis of preparing the financial statements** The financial statements of the charitable company, which is a public benefit entity under FRS 102, have been prepared in accordance with the Charities SORP (FRS 102) 'Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2019)', Financial Reporting Standard 102 'The Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland' and the Companies Act 2006. The financial statements have been prepared under the historical cost convention. ## **Income** All income is recognised in the Statement of Financial Activities once the charity has entitlement to the funds, it is probable that the income will be received and the amount can be measured reliably. ## **Expenditure** Liabilities are recognised as expenditure as soon as there is a legal or constructive obligation committing the charity to that expenditure, it is probable that a transfer of economic benefits will be required in settlement and the amount of the obligation can be measured reliably. Expenditure is accounted for on an accruals basis and has been classified under headings that aggregate all cost related to the category. Where costs cannot be directly attributed to particular headings they have been allocated to activities on a basis consistent with the use of resources. ## **Tangible fixed assets** Depreciation is provided at the following annual rates in order to write off each asset over its estimated useful life. Freehold land Nil ## **Stocks** Stocks are valued at the lower of cost and net realisable value, after making due allowance for obsolete and slow moving items. ## **Debtors and creditors receivable/payable within one year** Debtors and creditors with no stated interest rate and are receivable or payable within one year are recorded at transaction price. Any losses arising from impairment are recognised in the statement of financial activities allocated to the appropriate heading. ## **Taxation** The charity is exempt from corporation tax on its charitable activities. ## **Fund accounting** Unrestricted funds can be used in accordance with the charitable objectives at the discretion of the trustees. Restricted funds can only be used for particular restricted purposes within the objects of the charity. Restrictions arise when specified by the donor or when funds are raised for particular restricted purposes. Further explanation of the nature and purpose of each fund is included in the notes to the financial statements. ## **Pension costs and other post-retirement benefits** The charitable company operates a defined contribution pension scheme. Contributions payable to the charitable company's pension scheme are charged to the Statement of Financial Activities in the period to which they relate.
