In 2013, we had just 14 volunle&r dancers {wlth and wlthoul disabilities) and our oper8tlons were run on a
freelance basis. We now hav6 an operalional leam of 6 employees led by our Managlng Direclor. Julle
Nicholson. Our Artislic Dlrector. Sophle Tickle oversees Ihe Dance Team of 7 Freelance Dance Arllsls and
20 Volunleer Dance Leaders. Our DS Colleclive performance company has 20 regular performers, and we
have a newly established DS Youth Collecllve performanGe company of 10 young people aged be￿een 14
and 25 years old.

Those early Inclusive communlty dance workshops formed Ihe basis for Ihe°Everybody Danc8° melhodology
which Is ¢urrenlly used lo co-dellver our communlty dance workshops 8nd Ihe online workshops as part of
the organlsallon's response to COVID-19 lockdowns. In 2023-24 we delivered 224 w6ekly Everybody Dance
communlty dan￿ sessions, 90onllne Everybody Dance session5 and 174 dance lechnlque sesslons (Street,
Ballet, Thealre Jazz and Contemporary dance styles).
Our'Dance by Example, L8adershlp Tralnlng was
deslgned and developed In-house lo encourage
co-producllon between disabled and non-dlsabled
le8d8rs. Almed al people wlth le8rnlng disabllitles,
or people wanting to work In a supporling role, the
tralnlng enables parllclp8nls to galn Ihè skllls and
confldence needed lo co-dellver dance workshops
and lake the role of Dan¢￿ Leader. Thls flrsl cour8e
was a r6al success.
DanGe By Examp18 had to lake a break durlng ihe pandemlc and re-started agaln In October 2021 wllh a
Level 2 course (¢ompleted In July 2022) followed by a Level 1 course d8llver8d In AprS12022 (completed In
May 2022}. Dance By Example Is now a¢credlled al Level 1 and Level 2 through the L&adershlp Skllls
Foundallon. and we havè tralned over 120 Dance Leader8 to d818, whl¢h we are very proud ofl
In 2017. a Street Dance group was eslabllshed, and thls was qulckly followed by Ballet, Contemporary and
Jazz lechnlquè sesslons. These workshops weie adapted to online dellvery during the pandemlc and In
2023-24 they formed a key parl of our weekly Day ol Dance and a core part of our weekly Ilmelabl8. We
have slaTted developlng an Incluslve, accrediled 'Bronzè' level syllabus for Ballel, and over Ilme we are
plannlng to create further syllabl ensuring that any fomal assessmenl is fully incluslv8.
We are also developlng Incluslve resources Easy Read and Plaln Engllsh variations and as part of thls
process we have been worklng wllh a Dance Makalon Experl lo dellver Makalon speclflc lo dance workshops.

Back sn 2013, performance work was a key focus. The first year got off to an
impressive slaftwhen we look part in Mlranda's Mad March for Comlc Rellef.
The oppoitunlty to perform on wime-lime TV was unprecedented for the
performance leam and they were thrilled lo be included in such a special
event. Performance work conlinues lo be a prloilty, and. In 2023. our DS
Collective performance team Iravelled lo the Edinburgh Fringe Festlval for the
3, tlme. They performed "SENse" a co-produced piece dealing with the Idea
Ihat people with lÈarnlng dlsabllilies don't always feel seen and heard in
soclety uslng Ihelr own feelings and Ideas lo creale the narrative of the plece.
A North-We51 lour of the plece is planned for 2024 and thls started with a
further performance at EXPRESS'24 th& CommuThty Dance Showcase In
March 2024. Thls provided a valuable opportunity for each Community
workshop group lo perform loo. many for the firsl tlme on stage.

In 2017, we galned funding from the 'National Loltery, Reaching Communlties fund, to work wlth partners In
other areas of the UK, lesling a soclal reklicalion model. Thls three-year PFojecl was coming to the evaluation
stage when Ihe pandemic started forcing this strand of work to be paused.11 resumed In late 2021 when Ihe
organlsalion first explored a soclal Ifanchise model which a few months later became the Dancesyndrome
Kitemark. Al the end of our tenth year, we have signed our first conlracl with a pailner who wanls lo become
a Dancesyndrome Kitemark Approved Piovldèr; Btszz Hub in St Helens.

foundations for the fulure. Back in 2013, a lot of work
was golng on behlnd the scenes to find positive
partnershlps that would enable us lo grow. In 2023,

In 2017, the 'Select Team. was formed to provlde 8 valuable opportunlty for Dance Leadèrs, Ih8lr famllles

Selecl Team has now become 'Dance Leader Meetlngs" and are an Importanl opportunity for every Indivldual
to hav8 Ihelr vo5ce heard on a regular basls. and in a slruclured way. We have created a Menlor Manager
role lo furlher support Ihls group. Thls role involves worklng with Dance Leaders lo crea18 Cvs, showreels
and to consider performan¢e work, choreography and teaching skills. In 2023-24 our team of Dancè Leaders
have been devèloplng Indlvldual plans for personal and professlonal development.

postlng became part of our approach In 2016 and in 2020 a worklng group was formed to lako a more
trateglc and analylic approach lo soclal media campalgning.
In 2023, a new role ofcommunicalions Managerwascr8ated as parl ofourongoing commitmenl to exce51enl,
$lraleglc communlcalions. We have also been WOTking hard tr) create a much larger proportion of our direcl
communlcallons In Easy Read foTmat, or al leaslwilh an accompanylng Easy Read verslon. Thls Is Import8nl

soclety. and soclal media engagemenl with key national campaigns rAays a slgnlficant role In sharlrlg Ihesa
messages. In 2023-24 thls included Learnlng Disablllty Awareness Week with a theme of 'Busllng myths
about Learnlng Disabillty,. for Incluslon Week we shared messages about the imporiance of inclusion in all
aspects of 8ociely. For Down's Syndrome Awarenèss Weok. we engaged wlth the Nallonal theme of "End

Hlslorlcally, Dancesyndrome's firsl ever award came in September 2015 when Founder Jen Blackwell was
recognlsed as Inspirational Woman of the Year al Ihe Enterpiise Wislon Awards. Key awards for the charity

8trateglc Environmèntal Responslblllty Journey. We have formed a worklng group of 5 team members who
mel on a quarterly basls throughoul 2023-24 to dlscuss Imporlanl188rnlng and how we can successfully
embed sust8lnable pracllces Into our everyday work.
Our key188rnlng Is that Envlronmenlal Responsiblllty only works Ihrough 'llved" pollcles that are put I nlo
pracllce operationally on a day-lo-day basls, so we have slarted lo conslder Envbronmental Responslblllty
when we are maklng day to day declslons.

Fundlng becamè key In 2015. Whllsl short term funding had previously been 3￿Ured for creating
admlnislrative ioles and lo subsldlse woikshops, Dancesyndrome needed more substanllal fundlng to meet
the growlng demand we were seelng. Nalwesl Skills and Opportunilles Fund provided funding lo subsldlse
the Dance by Ex8mple course, and we were successful In securing a Small project granl from Arts Councll
England to support a perfoimance called 'Orbil°. This was perfomied at the Edlnburgh Frln9e Fesllval.
In 2016, Splrt 012012, we were awarded our Ilrst mulll-year grant over 3 years. This enab18d us lo co-deliver
5weekly communlly dance workshops, an annual Dance by Example trainlng course and regular communlly
oulreach work, which would continue lo challenge perceptions of people with disabilities and empower them
lo become more Involved in their local communities.

In 2020. when the pandemic hlt the world. the team had lo quickly adapt lo co-delivering online dance
sessions and workshops via YouTube Initially followed by Zoom. We wanled to Ilmlt the Impacl of isolalion
on pailiclpants and contlnue lo make Ihem a parl of our 'danclng family.. Fortunately, funding bodles were
incredibly supportive during Ihe pandemic, and we were able lo generate enough financlal support to survive
Ihese very challenglng lime8. The team were able lo
offer an exlenslvÉ prograpnme of dance reachlng over
600 people from around the world, Including Europe,
Ihe USA and Soulh Affical As a result, several onllne
da￿e sessions conllnue lo be delivered four years
after the Inltlal lockdowns. These Everybody Dance
sessions (online 8nd in the communlly), our Dance by
Example Irainlng and community outreach aclivllles
are now subsldlsed by a current 3-year grant from the
Nallonal Lotlery Communlly Fund.
Our grant fundlng was taken to the n8xI level I n 2023-
24 as we were thosen as an Arts Councll England
Nallonal Portfollo Organlsallon (NPO) for 2023-26
slarting In Aprll 2023.
Over the last few years, we have seen a steady growth In our earned Income 88 demand for Ihe servlces wa
offer Increases. This has become 8n Imp¢)rtanl part of our overall fundlng and su61alnablllly slrat8gy.
We have come a long way over thè last 10 years constantly slrlving to Improve the Ilves of people wllh a
learnlng dlsablllty. We have sel ourselves a pro9ressSve and demandlng slrategy and we look forward to th8
nexl 10 years as we contlnue to gr￿1 and develop.

Thls year's accounts show that Ihe financial poslllon of Dancesyndrome is sallsfactory lor the perlod
revlewed.
Durlng 2024 total Income amounted lo £368,13712023: £312,948). Oflhe Income, a lolal of£296,57912023:
£244,870} was recelved by way of voluntary Income and grants. In¢omè from charllable activilles tolalled
£87,989 (2023: £68,078), thls Income rolates lo workshop Income. There was al80 furlher granls tolallSng
£87,50612023: £63.517) whlch were recelved In 2024 bul relate to projects after lh8 year end and have
Iherefor8 belng d8ferred. These grants ar& nol Included wllhln the Income of the year of £366,137,
Exp8ndllure tolalled £370,890 compared to £250,014 In 2023. The maln items of expendllure for Ihe charlty
are staff costs of £182.401 (2023: £148.004) and freelance fees and expenses of £105,26312023,' £74,790).
Nel expendltur8, therefore, was £4.753 (2023: nel income £62,934) and resulls In a In a n61 decrease In
