Lavendon Pre-School is a small, friendly trustee managed pre-school providing a
varied, interesting and informative Early Years education and childcare for
children between the age of two to five years from Lavendon and the
surrounding villages.
We offer 15 and 30 hours free government funding per week for children aged 3-
4 years, additional hours are also available. We currently have funded 2 year
olds attending the Pre-school that meet the current ‘Time for 2’s’ funding criteria.
We have employed 3 part-time staff (Leader, Deputy Leader and Assistant) from
the beginning of the year. However, the assistant left in April and due to a
decrease in numbers we changed our session to 3 full days and two half days a
week. We continued with our two remaining staff with increased hours and used
cover staff for any planned absence.
Our regular sessions are now Monday to Friday morning sessions (9am to
12pm) and Monday, Tuesday and Thursday afternoon sessions (12pm to 3pm)
On our full days we operate a lunch club to allow the morning children to stay for
an extra hour.
We welcome all children within the age range regardless of personal
circumstance, gender, faith, cultural background and lingual ability.
The Pre-School is located in the heart of the village adjacent to the village
playing field providing an excellent location for outdoor activities and involvement
in community events.

Section D Achievements and performance

Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year

We have seen a drop off in overall numbers in this academic year. We have consolidated our hours into 3 full day sessions and two half day so reducing employment costs and helping our overall finances. All sessions have always maintained the correct ratios.

To give us better cover we have started a trainee on limited hours to help with long term cover.

We continue to give an interesting and rewarding variety of activities for all our children. All our children's progress is monitored and recorded on a weekly basis. We involve the children’s parents in all of our development activities and provide regular reports on progress to them.

Activities and Achievements

Lavendon Preschool are proud that we provide an exciting and creative environment. We offer a wide range of ambitious experiences, giving endless opportunities to allow each child to grow into independent, confident and successful learners. We support our children in becoming active learners who are enthusiastic who become the best version of themselves.

We offer meaningful uncapped learning to suited to age, ability, development needs and interests. We focus on the 7 areas of learning and follow Development matters and Birth to five guidance. We also focus greatly on the Characteristics of effective Learning to promote and encourage our children to be confident in exploring the environment and the wider world. We aspire in supporting our children to bounce back after difficulties and try out their own ideas.

Our enabling environment enables our children to celebrate their own ideas, use what they already know and feel proud of their achievements.

Section D Achievements and performance

The impact of Lavendon Preschool is that our children are happy, secure, confident and independent, this enables them to gain secure foundations needed to continue their learning journey.

We have supported our aims by providing the following opportunities :

Getting to know each other and our differences Emotions alongside Humpty Dumpty Nursery Rhyme Autumn and season change The Gingerbread Man story Winter and season changes Christmas Healthy eating and exercise The Gruffalo Story Chinese New Year Wild animals and camouflage Spring and changes in the environment Dinosaurs Plant life cycle Sunflower Planting and how to care for them

We follow the interests of the children and support their ideas throughout out sessions.

Besides our themes we offer various opportunities for our children to gain experiences they might not get at home such as... Cooking, gardening, painting and messy play.

We provide a healthy and varied snack which encourages the children to try different fruits and vegetables,

We have people from the wider community come into Preschool who have delivered rich experiences. The children have been given the opportunity to participate in Sports sessions. Mindfulness, forest school and music and dance.

We have involved our parents in sharing their child's learning and experiences by inviting them to join in with stay and play sessions.

We invited all of our children and their parents to a sports day and picnic. Where we took the opportunity to thank all our parents and Staff for their support throughout the year.

To end our school year, we held a Graduation celebration to say goodbye to our school starters.

We ensure that Early Years Pupil Premium (EYPP) funding is used effectively to provide the resources and support required for eligible children.

During the year we also organised several enrichment activities and events to broaden the children’s experiences and strengthen links with the wider community.

These included:

Sports sessions

Ragdolly Annas music and dance session

We value strong partnerships with parents and carers and regularly invite families into the preschool to participate in activities and celebrations.

Section D Achievements and performance

During the year we held Christmas and Easter events as well as regular Stay and Play sessions. To support healthy lifestyles, we ask parents for a small voluntary donation towards providing healthy and varied snacks for the children attending the setting.

Section E Financial review

Further financial review details (Optional information)

You may choose to include additional information, where relevant about:

Principle sources of funds are funding payments from Milton Keynes Council for eligible 2 year olds and 3 and 4 year olds who receive their 15 or 30 hours of funding. We also receive fees from parents who pay for additional hours or 2 year olds not eligible for funding. We have received funds from fundraising outlined in section D.

The expenditure has supported the key objectives by providing resources and staffing for the preschool to ensure all children have access to the EYFS standards.

Section F Other optional information

The Preschool looking forward faces an unknown future.

We have reduced numbers of children and must manage with two staff working more hours than they would like.

Cover varies from promising to poor and we will need to address this next year.

Recruitment of committee members is becoming more difficult as the number of children drop.

A trustee has resigned during this year and has left the overall management of the preschool falling to a reduced number of volunteers.

All these issues we will be seeking to address in the new academic year.
