It is one of many local U3As throughout the United Kingdom. The Third Age Trust is the national representative body for U3As in the UK, and is based at Blackfriars in London SE1. Local U3As are affiliated to the national body and embrace the aims and guiding principles of the national organisation. However, each is autonomous in terms of its own constitution and structure. The Arun East U3A exists for the advancement of education and, in particular, the education of older people and those who are retired from full time work who are members of Arun East U3A, by all means, including associated activities conducive to learning and personal development. Members are drawn from Rustington and its surrounding locality. It operates about 100 different activity groups covering a wide range of interests and pursuits. The committee consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 154 of the Charities Act 2011, and that an independent examination is appropriate. It is my responsibility to: - examine the accounts (under section 145 of the 2011 Act) - to follow the procedures laid down in the General Directions given by the Charity Commission (under section 145(5)(b) of the 2011 Act) - to state whether particular matters have come to my attention ## **Basis of independent examiner's report** My examination was carried out in accordance with the General Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as committee members concerning any such matters.
