CREATIVE OPPORTUNITIES- continued
Events
Spectrum People led the sixth year of Postcards from Wakefield, organising with partners
a series of 25 events across the district during nalional mental health week in May. For the
first time these included a school where pupils and staff jointly said how helpful this had
been.
Led by Wakefield PMH N (Positive Mental Health Network) this initiative encourages many
people to talk about their mental health and give positive rnessages to others.
Appletree Garden hosted many events throughout the year, with 4 as part of the Nurture
and Nourish strand of Wakefield's Our Year and a lantern festival in December. Over 470
visitors attended these 5 events, many for the first time.
Appletree Women's Group met weekly through the year, engaging in a range of activities
based on crafts, gentle exercise and music. By the end of the year the group had grown to
over 90.
CREATIVE SPACES
Tieve Time at Tieve Tara Medical Practice.
Saturday opening for anyone from the local community to drop in and have a cuppa and
chat started January 2025.
Appletree Garden also started to open on a Saturday, from January 2025.
Both these opportunities mean people who work or are otherwise engaged during the
week can visit these community spaces, meeting others and getting support, as needed.
In July 2024 Appletree Garden was awarded Green Flag Comrnunity Garden status,
celebrated by everyone who visits and helps run this vibrant space, a former brownfield

Women's Group in Agbrigg, help and support in Airedale and creative health offers with
partner organisation Crafting4Good, across the district.
Through a large Culture Fund grant the In Cahoots Collective and Spectrum People
supported over 120 people across the district in music and movement., specifically
designed for those with memory and mobility issues. The week of activity in September
2024 included a masterclass for 14 creatives to enable them to take the learning into their

Following Wakefield Council's commissioning of a prograrnme of Adult Social Care activity

FINANCIAL REVIEW
Reserves policy
The resepdes fund remains at £40,000,
FUTURE PLANS
Partnering with others closely involved in Creative Health to bring funding to Wakefield
this includes:
A Creative People and Places bid to The Arts Council, led by Featherstone Rovers
Foundation, with Spectrum People and Creative Minds as lead partners.
With the National Coal Mining Museum as lead, a bid to Esme Fairburn Communities and
Collections Fund, linking the charities work at Tieve Tara, the former pit surgery for
Fryston Colliery, with the work and Gollections of NCMM.
With Featherstone Rovers Foundation a bid to Tackling Health Inequalities: The Mayorfs
Big Ideas Challenge.
Continued expansion and further recognition of the strong body of Creative Health work
via high-profile partnership activily with Creative WakeTield and Huddersfield University.
Continuing to influence relevant policy and practice locally, regionally and beyond.
Continuing to tell vital stories and celebrate success stories of community members the
charity has helped.
As 2025 progresses the trustees and all in the charity remain aware of decreasing funding
for charities, as challenges in the public sector mean further cutbacks in many areas. The
work done by the entire team during 2024125 remained focused on maximising the value
offer from the charity whilst ensuring financial viability is always kept in mind. Trustees
remain mindful of risks including succession planning and ensuring the charities work and
offer is clearly communicated and known. Each of these issues is regularly scrutinised and
discussed. The charity benefited from pro-bono support of Q5 Foundation as part of their
Pop-up Consulting support with two facilitated sessions in De￿rnber 2024 and April 2025.
As the year ends the issue with regard to pension payments being incorrectly made into
the NHS Pension Scheme over a period of time has been resolved with full repayment
being made to the charity. No employee was adversely affected by this issue.
STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT
Governing document
The charity is controlled by its governing document, a deed of trust, and constitutes a
limited company, limited by guarantee, as defined by the Companies Act 2006.
Management
The board of trustees remained strong with 10 trustees, up to the year end, with one
further appointment on 22 April 2025 taking the total to 11.
