## **REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES for the year ended 31[st] December 2021** 

The trustees present their report and accounts for the year to 31[st] December 2021. The trustees have opted, under section 133 of the Charities Act 2011 (‘the Charities Act’), to prepare receipts and payments accounts 

## **Objectives and Aims** 

The charity's objects are specifically restricted to the following: 

- (1) To advance the Christian faith for the benefit of the public in accordance with stated doctrines. 

- (2) The prevention or relief of poverty in Asia or throughout the world by providing: grants, items and services to individuals in need and/or charities, or other organisations working to prevent or relieve poverty. 

- (3) The prevention or relief of poverty [or financial hardship] anywhere in the world by providing or assisting in the provision of education, training, healthcare projects and all the necessary support designed to enable individuals to generate a sustainable income and be self-sufficient. 

We are involved in working with organisations in Asia to provide medical relief, water aid, education, support for poor and needy people, building projects, farming projects, vocational training courses, and supporting Christian pastors and evangelists. 

## **Public benefit** 

The Trustees have considered the Charity Commission guidance on public benefit and consider that the activities of the charity meet its charitable objectives and provide a benefit to the public. 

## **Achievement and Performance** 

The year’s highlights were as follows: 

## **Administration** 

The following policies were reviewed by the Trustees Finance, Anti Money, Anti Fraud, Complaints and Equal Opportunities Andrew Shuttleworth appointed as Trustee and Vice Treasurer 

Zoom meetings take the place of face-to-face trust meetings 

New five-year development strategy introduced 

Zoom monthly prayer meetings continue Jackie Dawkins engaged to work on finding trustees/volunteer workers Helen Fletcher stood down as Data Protection Officer due to ill health 

Two newsletters were sent to the supporters. 

## **JANUARY 2021** 

VFA would able to commit money to help Saleem Raza in Pakistan with his work amongst the Youth by providing teacher training for the Pastors who work with the Youth. 

VFA continues with the help of supporters to support the children’s education on Rupamari island but paying for a teacher, giving the children school uniform and a meal every day. 

Shaker Scott and his wife Rebecca help the people in Varanasi in many ways to release poverty and show the love of Jesus by holding Bible Studies, supplying food and supporting the poor. With regular support VFA are able to send money on a regular basis to help the work. 

In the Philippines churches need to register their premises on a annual basis and buy a license. VFA annually help Pastor Chary Refugio to continue to worship in his church and bring the gospel to the people where he lives and the surrounding areas. 

## **FEBRUARY 2021** 

Samuel Joshua requested money for a well in Kothapeta Sivari which VFA would happy to provide which will help over 2000 villagers. 

Amit Thomas in Hyderbad requested money for his Christmas Feeding Programme where rickshaw drivers were given a blanket and children in orphanages were given a gift. He has also been helping the poor during lockdown with food and supplies which we were happy to contribute towards. 

Saleem Raza in Pakistan travels a lot to reach villages and his car needed four new tyres so money was sent to help him in his ministry. 

## **MARCH 2021** 

Supporters have been able to raise money to supply a new motorbike for Pastor Chary Refugio in the Philippines who uses it to travel many miles to support Pastors in outlying areas.

## **for the year ended 31[st] December 2021** 

Pastor Piyal Mondal in Kolkata organised a Pastors to have a Risco van to support Pastors in their work. There was unrest in Myanmar and the people were told to stay in doors for 2 months and to get enough food for that length of time. Money was sent to support the church in their need of food. 

In the outlying area of Kochi a Pastor witnessed to a man who came to the Lord and his brother was so unhappy that he killed the Pastor. Money was raised to support the Pastor’s widow and their children. 

## **APRIL 2021** 

Shekhar Scott continues to be sent support for his work in Varanasi Samuel Joshua was able to rescue 7 girls from slavery. These girls were used as sex slaves and now are living in a hostel, being cared for, given much needed medical attention and will be given an education. 

The medical camp for the children on Rupamari island has been completed where the children and any other people needed medical attention were visited by a doctor with the necessary medicines to help cure the various ailments. Two teachers are now supported in the brick kiln Pakistan. People who due to debt have been forced to work making bricks to try to clear their debt. Their children do not receive an education unless the parents can release them from making bricks to have an education. 

The church fees for the church in Myanmar have been paid for the next 6 months. Support for Biblap, Peter and Piyal has been sent to enable them to help the villagers in their areas. Relief money was sent to Saji Chacko for the purchase of medical supplies and food to be distributed to the poor 

## **MAY 2021** 

Support for the two teachers already in the schools was sent to Saleem in Pakistan. Scott received more support funding for his work in Varanasi. 

A young lad gave money for a bicycle to be bought for one of the Pastors in India to help them support their church community. 

An oxygen unit was needed for Covid patients in Allahabad so money was raised to support this. 

## **JUNE 2021** 

A scan was needed for a church member who lives in the Philippines Piyal ‘s brother-in-law Peter died and support was sent to his wife and family to help with the debts occurred. More relief money was raised to send to Saji in Kerala, Saleem in Pakistan and Amit in Allahabad. This relief is to help families affect by Covid with food parcels etc. 

Further teachers support was given to Saleem for the brick kiln teachers. Another well was drilled for a village in Samuel Joshua’s area. 

## **JULY 2021** 

The orphanage in the Philippines needed support for the children’s needs. 

People who sponsor Varughese and his pastors sent money for the support of their work in the Andaman Islands. 

## **AUGUST 2021** 

Due to the island of Rupamari being flooded the water pump by the school needed repairing. This was carried out and was the only one working on the island. 

Support and relief for the people suffering from the Covid in Myanmar was sent to Pastor Robie who was able to distribute food etc to the poor. 

## **SEPTEMBER 2021** 

Financial support for the 3 teachers who teach children in the brick kilns in Pakistan was sent to Saleem. The schoolteacher’s fee and support for the children on Rupamari island for six months was sent to Piyal. An amount of money was sent to Saleem in Pakistan to purchase Bibles including Audio Bibles. Support for the children in the orphanage in the Philippines was sent to Chary plus personal support for Chary. The money for the Bethel Full Gospel Church has been disbanded and the money sent to Vision for Asia. This has been sent to Amit for the work in Varanasi. 

A water pump was put into a village to help about £2500 people have access to fresh water. This was organised by Samuel Joshua. 

## **OCTOBER 2021** 

Due to flooding and Covid, relief was sent to Pakistan for the people who have been affected. This included refugees from Afghanistan. 

Robie in Myanmar was sent money for his church rent.

## **NOVEMBER 2021** 

Support for our Pastor’s Christmas Feeding programme which starts in November and goes on until the end of December. The Pastors who had support was Chary, Samuel, Amit, Saleem, Robie, Piyal, Varughese and Saji. This is the most important evangelical event in their calendar when the children receive a gift, and the families receive a meal. 

Pastor Tacaban home was destroyed by fire and we were able to support the rebuilding of his house. Another well was drilled in the area of Samuel Joshua which gave clean water to many people. 

There is a new church in Siocom in the Philippines which VFA were able to help support and the orphanage that Chary runs was able to give Christmas gifts to the children along with a Christmas meal. 

The Leprosy mission in Orissa was able to be supported with food, clothing and other essentials. The children on Rupamari island were given Christmas gifts. 

Continued support was sent to Peter’s widow, Biplap, Piyal, Robert, ICF Pastors and Saji 

## **DECEMBER 2021** 

Support for personal use and Christmas feeding programmes were sent to Varun in New Delhi. Food parcels for Kerala were distributed to the people who needed support. 

## **Financial review** 

The trustees consider the financial performance by the charity during the year to have been satisfactory. The Statement of Financial Activities show net incoming resources for the year of £7,032 (PY outgoing £23,422) The total reserves at the year-end stand at £8,973 (PY £16,005). 

The charity’s principal source of funding is from donations and fund raising. Fund raising efforts by all supporters include ladies’ lunches, curry evenings, photographic presentations, jumble sales, Christmas bazaar, craft sales and local school table-top sales. 

The key objective of the charity is to relieve poverty in the poorest areas Asia by providing practical relief to those in need, hardship and distress. 

The Trust is committed to their objectives and aims and as the work enlarges the Trustees have adopted any policy to help them in their aims and objectives. 

## **Reserves policy** 

Unrestricted reserves held at the year-end amounted to £3,858 (PY £789) 

## **Structure, Governance and Management** 

## **Governing document** 

The charity is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (converted) 17[th] May 2019 

The directors of the company are also trustees for the purposes of charity law. The Trustees for the Charity were chosen carefully to draw on a breadth of experience from active local community leaders to managers of large retail outlets to give strength to the board on all aspects required to steer the charity and its aims forward. 

Financial reports are presented to the board at each meeting. Minutes of each meeting are taken and subsequently distributed.

## **Independent examiner's report to the trustees of Vision for Asia** 

I report to the charity trustees on my examination of the accounts of Vision for Asia (the Trust) for the year to 31[st] December 2021. 

## **Responsibilities and basis of report** 

As the charity trustees of the Trust you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 ('the Act'). 

I report in respect of my examination of the Trust's accounts carried out under section 145 of the Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act. 

## **Independent examiner's statement** 

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect: 

1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the Trust as required by section 130 of the Act; or 

2. the accounts do not accord with those records; or 

3. the accounts do not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a true and fair view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination.

The trustees consider that there are no material uncertainties about the charity's ability to continue as a going concern.
