During this year SAIL provided 1466 Counselling sessions.

ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE

During the year we maintained the running of our services remotely. Offering counselling and a choice of support services to adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse, incest, and rape.

We offered an online Pre-Therapy Group.

Our helpline service was expanded to offer email and text options to increase access to this service during the challenges of the pandemic.

We increased our ISVA (Independent Sexual Violence Advisor) service by securing funding for another ISVA post.

Not all funding is secure for year 2021 – 2022.

FINANCIAL REVIEW

SAIL's funding is secure until March 2022.Along with other small charity organisations, SAIL is reliant on grant funding for our core service. Within this funding landscape, it has been challenging to plan or develop the service. Nevertheless, SAIL, with the aid of sound financial management and the support of staff and volunteers, generated a positive financial outcome for the period. The Core funding sources for SAIL are currently the Ministry of Justice, The National Lottery Community Fund and Derby and Derbyshire CCG.

It is the long-term aim of SAIL, which is particularly vulnerable to cuts in statutory funding, to build up unrestricted funds (the free reserves of the organisation) equivalent to three months average annual expenditure. In this financial year, three months running costs would be £29,000.

The charity had £203,875 in reserves on 31st March 2021 of which £102,868 were unrestricted. The Trustees feel that this level of unrestricted reserves is sufficient to meet the demands of our reserves policy.

FUTURE PLANS

Our aims during the next 12 months are to return to face to face services as we work to assist our community's focus on recovery. We plan to continue to maintain and develop SAIL's on-going work by recruiting new volunteers. As well as further developing the organisation by strengthening governance, recruiting new Trustees, and completing the accreditation of all of our services.

STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT

Governing document

The Company (Company number 8436085) was incorporated on 8th March 2013 and its Memorandum and Articles of Association govern it. Its legal status is that of a company limited by guarantee and is a registered charity (Charity number 1152263). It took over the funds of the unincorporated charity number 1108117, also known as SAIL. These funds were transferred on 1st April 2014. It has no share capital and the liability of each member in the event of winding up is limited to £1. Overall management of the Charity is the responsibility of the Trustee directors who are elected and co-opted under the terms of the memorandum and articles of association. Day to day project activity is carried out by paid staff and volunteers.

SAIL (Sexual Abuse And Incest Line) Report of the Trustees Continued For the Year Ended 31 March 2021

Under the requirements of the Memorandum and Articles of Association, the members of the Management Committee are elected to serve for a period of a year after which they must be re-elected at the next Annual General Meeting. The Management Committee seeks to ensure that the needs of the beneficiaries are appropriately reflected through the diversity of the Trustee body. To enhance the potential pool of Trustees, SAIL advertises on a running basis with the local volunteer centre and also networks with local groups of differing professionals as a way of ensuring a broad mix of skills is represented on the Management Committee.

SAIL (Sexual Abuse And Incest Line) Independent Examiners Report to the Trustees For the Year Ended 31 March 2021

I report to the Trustees on my examination of the accounts of the charitable company for the year ended 31 March 2021.

Responsibilities and basis of report

As the charity Trustees, who are also directors for the purposes of company law, are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Companies Act 2006 ('the 2006 Act').

Having satisfied myself that the accounts of the Company are not required to be audited under Part 16 of the 2006 Act and are eligible for independent examination, I report in respect of my examination of your charity's accounts carried out under section 145 of the Charities Act 2011 ('the 2011 Act'). In carrying out my examination I have followed the Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the 2011 Act.

Independent examiners statement

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect:

  1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the Company as required by section 386 of the 2006 Act; or 2. the accounts do not accord with those records; or

  2. the accounts do not comply with the requirements of section 396 of the 2006 Act other than any requirement that the accounts give a 'true and fair view' which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination; or

  3. the accounts have not been prepared in accordance with the methods and principles of the Statement of Recommended Practice for accounting and reporting by charities applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102).

I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
