## Structure, Governance and Management 

Bridge of Hope Foundation is a registered charity in the UK number 1152252 and is a Limited Company in the UK number 7900474 

Bridge of Hope is governed under its Articles of Association. 

The day to day running of the charitable company is by the trustees who are also the directors. The trustees are responsible to the Charity Commission. 

In the event of the Company being wound up, the directors are required to contribute an amount not exceeding £10. 

## Objectives and Activities 

The objectives of Bridge of Hope are to sponsor children in the developing world to attend school and in exceptional circumstances, grants are given for tertiary education for students across the developing world. Bridge of Hope provides sponsorship for vocational training and gives support to schools in Africa and Haiti. 

## Achievements and Performance 

Bridge of Hope continued with its sponsorship activities in Kenya, Uganda, Northern India, Nepal, Haiti and Egypt. 

Bridge of Hope continued to work through a network of local partnerships in the countries where the charity is sponsoring children and schools. 

The Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy was reviewed and updated. 

## Fund raising: 

Bridge of Hope Foundation was able to continue its fund-raising activities through the following methods: 

- The online giving portal on the website -www.bridge-hope.org 

- Regular monthly giving 

- Corporate giving- with renewed grants from the Aveva Foundation 

- Aveva staff members completing challenge events and the use of the Just Giving platform 

- Annual sponsorship from key sponsors and matched giving 

- Summer Garden Party and raffle 

- Profits from sales of Bridge of Hope Christmas cards

## Bridge of Hope programme activity:

## **Kenya** 

## Secondary school sponsorship. 

In Kenya, Bridge of Hope works through different organisations including the Ummah Foundation and the Rotary Club of Milimani both of which administer the funding on behalf of Bridge of Hope as well as monitor the students’ progress and provide annual progress reports 

In Kenya, Bridge of Hope is sponsoring 7 secondary school students. 

3 students are sponsored through the Ummah Foundation and 4 children are sponsored in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Milimani. Uniforms and books where need arises, are also sponsored through Bridge of Hope Foundation. 

## University Sponsorship 

Bridge of Hope continued to sponsor a university student, James who is at the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, studying medicine. The charity additionally sponsors James’ accommodation and living costs in Thika whilst he completes his studies. James will be the first student from his village to study medicine and intends to go back to Northern Kenya to serve his community where there are no doctors. 

## **Uganda** 

In Kampala, Bridge is working with local representative, Ruth Isooba who administers the funding on behalf of the charity to the respective schools in Uganda. 

- Esther and Ibrahim are two children in Uganda being sponsored by Bridge of Hope. The charity make an annual contribution towards Ibrahim’s school of £600. Bridge of Hope have been sponsoring Ibrahim since primary school. 

- Full sponsorship is granted to Esther due to her special needs. Both Ibrahim and Esther’s education are being part-sponsored by the Royal Overseas League grant to the Bridge of Hope from 2020-2024. Next year will be the final year of the Royal Overseas Grant. 

Bridge of Hope is sponsoring three secondary school students at the Ekitangaala Transformational School in Uganda. Progress reports are provided on a yearly basis by Ruth Isooba, the Bridge of Hope Uganda representative. 

## **Haiti** 

In this financial year, Bridge of Hope continued to sponsor David and Kiki in Jacmel, Haiti to enable them to continue with their secondary school education. Bridge of Hope have been sponsoring the two boys since 2015 and are committed to seeing them through to high school graduation. David and Kiki are due to graduate In 2024. 

## St Marc’s Vocational School, Trouin, Haiti

Bridge of Hope gives an annual grant to St Marc’s Trade school in Trouin, Haiti, to help enable students have a vocational education.  Trouin is a village in the mountains of South West Haiti. The £3000 annual grant from Bridge of Hope has contributed to the construction of a new classroom and has helped sponsor classes in computing, decorating and an annual motorcycle maintenance internship. 

## **Tibetan refugee sponsorship programme** 

## Secondary school sponsorship: 

Bridge of Hope has an ongoing commitment to 20 children’s secondary school sponsorship in Mussoorie, Northern India and 3 students in Nepal through an annual grant sent to the Tibet Relief Fund. 

Bridge of Hope receive greeting cards and letters from the children each Christmas time which are distributed to the different Bridge of Hope sponsors. In the last financial year, Aveva Foundation renewed their annual grant to the Bridge of Hope Foundation for the sponsorship of the 23 Tibetan refugee children to continue their education. 

## University sponsorship: 

Bridge of Hope continues to sponsor Tsewang to study Tibetan medicine in Kathmandu, Nepal. Bridge of Hope has made a commitment to see her through to graduation. 

## **Egypt** 

Bridge of Hope began a new collaboration with a grant given to the Banati Foundation in Cairo. 

This grant contributes to the sponsorship of girls who do not have family support to enable their formal education. The grant from Bridge of Hope to Banati also is supporting the salary of a teacher at the after school club. 

## **Financial Review** 

The income and net outgoings of resources have been reflected in the accounts of the year. During this financial year, Bridge of Hope Foundation raised £50,342 

Funds distributed to the overseas projects amounted to £30,362. Funds spent on administration and fund raising came to £2,036 reflecting a 4 % percentage of income spent on administration fees. 

## **Future Planning** 

The primary objective of Bridge of Hope is to enable children to complete their secondary school education and for outstanding students to go on to have the means to attend college or university. Priority is given to the students whom the charity has sponsored through secondary school.  The commitment remains to support the current students through to graduation from secondary school, and for the sponsored students in tertiary education to graduate from college and university.

The charity has a reserves policy to keep two years funding in the Bridge of Hope savings account in order to safeguard the current students and projects. 

As well as sponsoring individual students, Bridge of Hope plans to continue in the direction of giving financial grants to schools with a particular focus on enabling marginalised and disabled children to receive an education as well as increasing access to education for girl students.

## **Independent Examiner’s report to the trustees of the Bridge of Hope Foundation. (Registered charity in the UK 1152252)** 

I report on the accounts of the company for the year ended January 31[st] 2024 

## **Respective Responsibilities of Trustees and examiner** 

The trustees (who are also the directors of the company for the purposes of company law) are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144(2) of the Charities Act 2011 (the 2011 Act) and that an independent examination is needed. The charity is required by company law to prepare accrued accounts and I am qualified to undertake the examination by being a qualified member of AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians) 

Having satisfied myself that the charity is not subject to audit under company law and is eligible for independent examination, it is my responsibility to: 

Examine the accounts under section 145 of the 2011 Act and Section 44(1) of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005 (the 2005 Act.) 

To follow the procedures laid down in the general Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145 (5)(b) of the 2011 Act 

To state whether particular matters have come to my attention 

## **Basis of independent examiner’s report** 

My examination was carried out in accordance with the general Directions given by the Charity Commission and is in accordance with Regulation 11 of the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a “true and fair view” and the report is limited to those matters set out in the next statement. 

## **Independent examiner’s statement** 

In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention: 

- (1) Which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements: 

   - To keep accounting records and in accordance with section 386 of the Companies Act 2006 and section 44(1) (a) of the 2005 Act and 

   - To prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records, comply with the accounting requirements of the Companies Act 2006, section 44 (1) (b) of the 2005 Act and Regulation 8 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations and 

   - Which are consistent with the methods and principles of the Statement of Recommended Practice: Accounting and Reporting by Charities 

   - Have not been met or 

- (2) To which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached
