The Irustees present their annual report and financial slaternents for the yeai ended 31 August 2025.
The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with Ihe accounting policies sel out in note 1 to the
financial statements and comply with the charity's governing document, the Charities Act 2011 and Accounting and
Reporting by Charilies- Stalemenl of Recommended Practice applicable lo charit19s preparing their accounts in
accofdance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in Ihe UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102)"

ObJ8Ctlve8 and activitiès
The principal objectivès of the charity is lo provide scholarships for Ihe students training as doctors al St
Bartholomew's Hospital, Cambridge Univefsily or al Worcester University.
Pursuant to the terms of the will of Antony John Slretlon éeceased and Ihe Amended Declaration of Trusl dated
27th March 2023 the objects of the charily I'lhe objecls'l are..
a) For the public benefit to advance the education of people in all are8s of medical training practise and surgery in
such ways as the Trustees think fil, including by..
i) Awarding io such persons scholarships, maintenance allowances or grants tenable al Cambridge Univ@rsity in
respect of medical training,

London.
iii) Awarding to such persons scholarships, maintenance allowances or granls tenable at the Three Counties

The Trustees have paid due regard to guidance issued by the Gharity Commission in deciding what activities Ihe
charily should undertake.

During the period the Trustees have concenlrated their activities on promoting the availability of funding to assist
medical studènls frorn Kidderminsler and the surrounding area of Ihe Counlies of WoFcestershire and Wesl
Midlands.
The Trustees initially Set geographic criteria based on residence and school location. DU￿ng the years the Trusteès
have been in contact with admissions staff at Cambridge University, University of Worcesler and Ihe successor
medical schools to St Bartholomew's lo find students currenlly sludying al Ihese institutions who malch the
geographic criteria.
As a fesult of this exercise 37 students were idenlified to whom. after the Tfuslees had satisfied Ihemselves Ihal
Iheir applications were in order, granls were made.

Investment pollcy and perfomiance
The Truslees invest Ihe assets of the charily with Ihe aim ensuring that the charilable objectives of the charity may
be fulfille(l. The objective is to generate investment returns that will enable the charity lo commFt to providing funds
by way of SGholaiships or bursaries lo medical students over the fijll six years of Iheir training and to meet ils
adrninislration and 5UPPOrt expen5e5.
All decisions about the day-lo-day managémènt of thè assets have been delegated to the inveslmenl managers via
a written agreement. This delegation includes decFsions about..

During Ihe year the charity made a nel deficit of £164,965 (2024 - net surplus of £247,306).
At the year end the charity had net assets of £3,802,405 (2024- net assets of £3,967,370).
Going conGern
After making appropriate enqulries, the Trustees have a reasonable expectation that thg charity has adequate
resources lo continue in operational existence for the foreseeable future. For this reason, they continue lo adopl the
going concern basis in preparing the financial statements, Further delai15 regarding the adoplion of the going
concern basis can be found in the Accounting Policies.
Reserves policy
The Trustees, current poli¢y is to build up income reserve lo a level capable of sustaining the charity's planned
annual average, when reached. of up to 40 medical sludenls being funded for the remainder of Ihelr slx years of
training. This equales to approximately £BO,000 of grants a year. The Truslees are looking lo maximise the
investments income that Ihey can obtain lo achieve this level of gUPPOrt. At the year end the charity has lolal
re5erve3 Of £3,802,405 12024.. £3,967,370). Of this £23,564 (2Q24.' £Jf3,af141 was unreslricled an(J £3,778,841
(2024.. £3,913,856) was held as an endowment lo generate future income for the charity. The charity's free reserves
are equivalent to its unrestricted r8setves.

The day to day adminislialion of the trust has been delegated lo the cleth. who is a soliciloi with ac￿5$ to the
facilities of his former parlner5hips.
The Trusteés met al least once each quarter.
Two committees meel from lime to time lo deal wilh finan¢e and other mattels in greater detail.
The charity wotks within a very focused area of activity. Its investments are managed by CCLA Inveslment
Management Limited. The Trustees believe the Gharity complie5 Wlth the governance suggestions set out in the
Charity Governance Code for Smaller Charities. The Truslees have tasked ils general subcommittees with
reviewing Ihat Code and ensuring that the charily continues lo comply and that the Trustees ar8 given whatever
training is appropriate lo ensure Ihe continuing compliance.

Related party relationships
The Trustees have made a provision for the balance owed lo the charity by Slrettons of Kidderminsler Limited. a
subsidiary company. The amounl of the provision is equal lo the net deficit on the balance sheet of the subsidiary
company less £30,000 which will be released to Ihe company under the investment agreement il has with Tèledu
Telesgop C￿. It is Ihe belief of the directors of the subsidiary company Ih81 Ihis amount will be released.

As the Iruslees of the charity you are responsible for the preparation of the financial slalements in accordance with
the requirements of the Charities Acl 2011.
report in respect of my examination of the charity's financial statemenls carried out under section 145 of the
Charities Act 2011. In carrying out my examination I have followed Ihe Directions given by the Charity Commission
under section 145151{b} of the Charitiès Act 2011.

Your attention is drawn lo the fact that the charity has prepared the financial statements in accordance with the
relevant version of the Slalement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their financial
slalemenls in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS
102) in preference lo the Accounting and Reporting by Charities.. Statement of Recommended Practice issued on 1
April 2005 which is relerred lo in the extant regulations bul has now been withdrawn. l understand that this has
been done in order for the financial slalements lo provide a true and fair view in a¢¢ordance with UK Generally
Accepted Accounting Practice.

Charity Inforniatlon
John Weston Stretton of Kidderminster Charity is a charity registered in England and Wales and is governed
by its constitution adopted on 28 May 2013. The principle address is Tylhg House, 20-21 The Tylhing.
Worcesler, Worcestershire, WR11 HD.
1.1 Accounting convention
The financial slalemenls have b8en prepared in accordanc8 wilh the charily's governing doGurnenl. the
Charilies Act 2011, FRS 102 "The Financial Reporting Standard applicable in Ihe UK and Republic of Ireland.
{-FRS 102") and the Charities SORP 'Accounling and R@porting by Charities: Statement of Recommènded
Praclice applicable to charities preparing Iheii accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Slandard
applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland IFRS 102) {effective 1 January 2019). The charity is a Publlc
Benefit Entity as defined by FRS 102.
The charity has 18ken advantage ol the provisions in Ihe SORP for charities not lo prepare a Statement of
Cash Flows.
The financial statements have departed from the Charities (Accounts and Reports) R8gulalions 2008 only lo
the exienl required to provide a Irue and fair view. This departure has involved following the Slalemenl ol
Recommended Practice for charities applying FRS 102 rather than Ihe vefsion of the Statement of
Rgcc>mm&nded Practice which is referred lo in the Regulations bul which has sincè b68n withdrawn.
The financial statements are prepared in sleding, which is the functional GU￿enCY of the charity. Monetary
amounts in Ihese financial statements are round&d to the nearest £.
The financial statemenls have been prepared under the historical cost convention. modified to include the
revaluation of freehold properties and to include investmenl propertles and certain financial instruments at fair
value. The principal accounting policies adopted are set out below.
1.2 Going concern
At the time of approving the financial slalemenls, the trustees have a ieasonable expectation that the charity
has adequate resources lo continue in operational existence for the foreseeable fulure. Thus the trustees
continue to adopl the going concern basis of acGounling in preparing lh9 financial slalemenls.
1.3 Charitsble funds
Unrestricted funds are available for use at Ihe di5crelion of Ihe truslees In furtherance of their charitable
objectives.
Reslrict8d funds are subject to specific condilions by donors or grantors as lo how they may be used. The
puiposes and uses of tho restricted funds are set out in the notes to the financial stal8ments.
Endowmenl funds are subject lo specific conditions by donors that Ihe capital musl be maintained by the
charily.
1.4 Income
Income is recognised when Ihe charily is legally entitled lo it after any performance condilions have been met.
the amounts can be measured Teliably. and it is probable that income will be receivèd.
Legacies are iecognised on ieceipl or otherwise if Ihe charity has been notified of an impending distfibulion.
the amount is known. and receipl is expected. If Ihe amount is not known. Ihe legacy is Irealed as a
conlingenl asset.
Income tax recoverable in relation lo investment income is recognised al the lime the investmenl income is
receivable.

1.5 Expenditure
Expenditure is recognised once there is a legal or constructive obligation to transfer economic benefit to a
third party, it is probable Ihat a transfer of economic benefits will be required in settlemenl. and Ihe amount of
the obligation can be measuréd reliably.
Expenditure 15 classified by activity. The cosls of each activity are made up of the lotal of direct costs and
shared costs, including support costs involved in undertaking each activity. Direct costs atl(ibulable to a single
activity are allocated directly to that aclivily. Shared cosls which contribule to more than one activity and
support costs which are not attributable lo a single aclivily are apportioned belween Ihose activitses on a basis
consistent with the use of resources. Central staff cosls are allo¢aled on the basis of time spent, and
depreciation charg8s are allocated on the portion of th8 ass81's use.

Granls payable are charged In the year when the offer 15 made except in these cases wh8re th8 off8r is
conditional, such grants being recognised as expenditure when the conditions allaching are fulfilled. Grants
ollered subjecl to Conditions which have not been met al the year end are noted as a commilmenl, bul not
accrued as expendilure.
1.6 Flxed asset Investments
Fixed asset investments are initially measiired at transaction price 8xcluding Iransaclion costs, and are
subsequently measured at fair value al each reporting dale. Changes in lair value ar8 recoynised in nel
incomel{exp8ndilure} for the year. Transaction costs are expensed as incurred.
1.7 Cagh and cash equlvalents
Cash and cash equivalents include cash in hand, deposits held al ¢811 wilh banks, other short-teTm liquid
inveslmenls with original maturities of three mor)Ihs or less. and bank overdrafts. Bank overdrafts are shown
wilhin borrowings in current liabilities.
1.8 Flnan¢lal Instrument5
The charity has elected lo apply the provisions of Section 11 'Basic Financial Insliumenls, and Section 12
'Olher Financial Instruments Issues, of FRS 102 to all of Ils financial inslrumenls.
Financial inslruments are recognised in the charity's balan￿ sheet when the charity becom8$ party to the
contractual provisions of the instrument.
Financial assets and liabilities are offs81. with the nel amounts presenled in the financial slaternenls, when
Ihere is a legally enfOr￿able right lo sel off Ihe recognised amounts and there is an inlenlion lo settle on a nel
basis or lo realise the assel and sellle the liability simultaneously.
Bas1¢ Ilnancial assets
Basic financial assets, which include debtors and cash and bank balances, are initially measured at
transaction price induding transaction costs and are subsequently carfied at amortised Cost using the effective
inleresl method unless Ihe arrangement constitutes a financin9 Ifansaclion, where the IransaGlion is
measured al the present value of Ihe future feceipls discounled at a market rale of interest. Financial assels
classified as receivable within one year are not amortised.

Basic financial liabilities, induding creditors and bank loans are initially recognised at transaction price unless
the arrangement constilules a financing transaction. where the debt insliurnent is measured at Ihe present
value of the future paymanls discounted 21 a market rate of interest. Financial liabililies classified as payable
within one year are not amortised.
Debt instruments are subsequently carried at amortised cost, using the effective interest rale melhod.
Trade creditors are obligations to pay for goods or services that have been acquired in the ordinary course of
operations from suppliers. Amounts payable are classified as current liabilities if payment is due within one
year or less. If not, they are presented as non-current liabilities. Trade creditors are recognised initially al
transaction price and subsequently méasured al amortised cost using the effeclive interest method.
Derecognltion ol financial liabllltlos
Financial liabilities are derecognised when the chaTily's contractual obligations expire or are discharged or
cancelled.
1.9 Provl$lon$
Provisions are recognised when the charity has a legal or conslructive present obligation as a result of a past
event, il is probable that the charity will be required to sellle that obligation and a reliable estimate can be
made of the amount of the obligation.
The amount recognised as a provision is the b85t estimate of th8 consideration 18quired lo sellle Ihe presenl
obligation al the reporting end dale, laking into account the rlsks and uncertainlies surrounding the obligalion.
Where the effèct of the time value of money is material, the amount &xp8cled lo be required to settle the
obligation is recognised at presenl value. When a provision is measured at present value, the unwinding of
the discount is recognised as a finance cost in net incomel(expenditure) in Ihe perio(l in which il arises.
Critical accountlng eBtlmateg and judgements
In the application of the charity's accountlng policles. the trustees are required lo make judgements, eslimates
and assumptions about the carrying amount of assets and liabilities that are not readily apparent from other
sources. The estimates and as50¢ialed assvmplions are based on historical experience and other factors that
are considered to be relevant. Actual Tesu115 may differ from these eslimales.
The estimales and underlying assumplions are reviewed on an ongoing basis. Revisions lo accounting
eslimales are recognised in the peiiod in which Ihe eslimale is revised wheie the revision affects only Ihal
period, or in the period of Ihe revision and future periods where the revision affects bDlh current and future
periods.
