1.19|Reaching everyone is not always easy
given the military aspect of our site, but we
do this by enlarging the story to the wider
families, support structures and other
nationalities drawn into conflicts.
Bringing people forward to engage in their
shared history and sense of location,
locally, nationally and internationally has
always been at the forefront of the work of
the Shorncliffe Trust. Across all ages,
nationalities and cultures, no one is
excluded and all are welcomed.
Also taking the story and aims of the Trust
to merge with others, this year the Trust
has engaged with the Nepalese community
at Shorncliffe, the West Indian community
and Canadian youth, as well as the general
public, all though a military link to
Shorncliffe and personal sacrifice.
We have proved to be the go to people for
people exploring the military history of their
family and its discovered links to
Shorncliffe.| |||Moving forward the Shorncliffe Trust will
continue to build on face-to-face
exhibitions, but will expand and develop
digital activities, via Zoom, Facebook etc. to
reach as many people as possible to
explore their stories, using social media to
share information about the Trust and its
aims. The Digital possibilities continue to
be explored; the Shorncliffe Trust is
engaged with film and sound as well as
images to build an archive of experiences.
The cost of these has to be weighed
against the maximum benefit to the public.

activities

The big push for the Shorncliffe Trust was the
worldwide commemoration of D Day 80 the
Shorncliffe Trust provided a service as Heritage
consultants.
6thJune – Escorting of Canadian Students to
Juno Beach with our lanterns and Canadian
standards.
7thJune (AM) – Pont Du Hoc – creating an
immersive interactive experience for American
students (1000)
7thJune (evening) D Day Museum, Caen –
creating an immersive experience for American
students (1000)
A further project Operation Spirit was
abandoned due to the owner of a vehicle
central to the project was unable in the end to
commit to the project.
Our commemorative lantern project continues
to expand and is proving popular and emotive.
Links have been made and maintained across
the Multi-Cultural Community, in particular
The West Indian Association and the Windrush
community, as well as the Commonwealth in
general

Introduction to Stanley Robinson. We were
contacted by the family of a elderly gentleman
who considered his memories and
achievements should reach a wider audience,
with his and his family’s agreement The
Shorncliffe Trust produced a short film on him
and his war poetry he began writing aged 90.
The Trust is also working with him and his
family to get his poems published, and to use
his as an incentive for a local school’s
competition.
**June 2024**
The Shorncliffe Trust were invited to the
Gurkha Rifles Family Day celebrations.| **July 2024** Attended by invitation the Canada Day Commemoration, where children lay flowers on the graves of soldiers from WW1 **September** Heritage Open Days The Shorncliffe Trust regularly supports these days, bringing the stories of the people of Shorncliffe to a wider audience. The Shorncliffe Trust is a CIO corporate

running, organisation and planning of its
work, the trustees are the governing body.
We rely heavily on our volunteer network
who without we could not exist
And informal relationships and links with
other charities and bodies, Royal British
Legion, Commonwealth War Graves
Commission, 1 RGR Shorncliffe, (Royal
Gurkha Rifles). The West India
Association. These are informal
partnerships.
The Shorncliffe Trust are members of the
NCVO, and the Association of Independent
Museums.
The charity has Employer’s Liability
Insurance and also Public Liability and
Product Liability Insurance.
The Trust produces a Risk Assessment for
every event they organise for the public
and for volunteers, first aid and a qualified
first aider are present, volunteers are
briefed on safe procedures during the event
