Compliance with Accounting Standards
The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the charity's Igoverning documentl, the Companie5
Act 2006, FRS 102 "The Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland" ("FRS 102") and
the Charities SORP "Accounting and Reporting by Charities.. Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to
charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and
Republic of Ireland {FRS 1021" {effeclive 1 January 20191. The charity is 8 Public Benefit Entity as deh'ned by FRS
102.
Accounting Policies
The principle accounting policies adopted in the preparation of the finanoal ststements are sel out below , and also
have been applled conslstenlly wilhln the same accounts
3.1 Basis of Preparation
The financial stalemenls have been prepared under the historical cost coDvenb'on. Imodified to include the
revaluation of freehold properties and to include investment properties and certain financial instruments at fair
valuel, The principal accounting policies adopted are set out below.

3.3 Going Concern
At the lime of approving the financial statements, the trustees have a reasonable expectation that the charity
has adequate resources to continu8 in operatson81 exi81ence for the foreseeable future. Thus the IIu5tees
continue to adopt the going concern basls of accounllng In preparing the financlal statements.
3.4 Charltable f unds
Unreslricled fLtnds are available for use at the discretion of the Iruslees in furtherance of th8lr charitable
objectives.
Restricted funds are subject lo specific conditions by donors as lo how they may be used. The purposes and
uses ol the reslricled funds are sel out in the notes lo the financial slatemenls.
Endowment fvnds are subject to specific conditions by donors that the capital must be maintained by the charity.
3.5 Income
Income is recognlsed when the charlty Is legally entitled to it after any pertormance conditions have been mel.
the amounts can be measured reliably, and il is probable that income will be received.
Cash donatsons are recognised on receipl. Other donations are recognised once Ihe charity has been notified of
the donation, unless performance conditions require deferral of the amount. Income tax recoverable in relation
to donations received under Gift Aid or deeds of covenant is recognised at the time of the donation.
Legacies are recognised on receipt or otherwise if the charity has been notified of an impending distribution. the
amount is known, and receipt is expected. If the amount is not known. the legacy is treated as a contingent
asset.

3.6 Expenditure
Expenditure is recognised once there is a legal or constructive obligation to transfer economic benefit to a third
Paty, it is probable that a transfer of economic benefits will be required in settlement. and the amount of the
obligation can be measured reliably.
Expenditure is classified by activity. The costs of each activity are made up of the total of direct costs and shared
costs, including support costs involved in undertaking each activity. Direct costs attnbutable to a single activity
are allocated directly lo that activity. Shared costs which contribute to more than one activity and support costs
which are nol attributable to a single activity are apportioned be￿een those activities on a basis consistent with
the use of resources. Central staff costs are allocated on the basis of time spent, and depreciation charges a
allocated on the portion of the assevs use.
3.7 Tangible fixed assets
Tangible fixed assets ere initially measured at cost and subsequenlly measured at cost or valuation, net of
depreciation and any impairment Ioss8S.
Depfecialion is recognised so as lo write off the Cost or valuation of assets less their residual values over their
useful lives on the followng bas8S'.

The gain or loss arising on the disposal of an asset is determined as the difference betr￿een the s81e proceeds

3.8 Impaimi¢nt of flxèd a8Set8
At each reporting end date, the charity reviews the carrying amounts of its tangible assets to determine whether
there is any indication that those assets have suffered an impairmenl loss. If any such indication exists, the
recoverable amount of the asset is estimated in order to determine the extent of the impairment loss lif any).
3.9 Cash and cash equivalents
Cash and cash equivalents include cash in hand, deposits held al call with banks, other short-term liquid
investments with original maturllies of three months or less, and bank overdrafts. 8ank oveidiafts are shown
within borrowings in current liabilities.
3.10 Flnanclal Instruments
The charity has elected to apply the provisions of Section 11 'Basic Financial Instruments. and Section 12 '01her
Financial Instruments Issues, ol FRS 102 to all of ils financial instruments.
Financial instruments are recognised in the charivs balance sheet when the charity becomes paty to the
contractual provisions of the instrument.
Financial assets and liabililles are offset, with the nel amounts Pfesenled in the financial stalemenls, when there
Is a legally enfoiceable right to set off the reco9nised amounts and there is an intention lo settle on a net basis
or lo realise the asset and settle the liability simultaneously.
3.11 Basic financial assets
Basic financial assets, which include debtors and cash and bank balances. are inits'ally measured al transaction
price including transaction costs and are subsequently carried at amortised cost using Ihe effeclive interest
method unless the arrangement conslilutes a financing transaction, where the transaction is measured al the
present value of the ftjture receipts discounted at a market rate of interest. Financial assets classified as
receivable wilhin one year are not amort15ed.

3.12 Basic financial liabilities
Basic financial liabilities, including creditors and bank loans are initially recognised al transaction price unless
the arrangement conslilutes a financing transaction, where the debt instrument is measured at the present value
of the future payments discounted at a market rale of intefest. Financial liabilities classified as payable within
one year are not amortised.
Debt instruments are subsequently carried at amortised cost, using the effective inlerest rate method.
Trade creditors are obli9alions to pay for goods or services that have been acquired in the ordinary course of
operations from suppliers. Amounts payable are classified as current liabilities if payment is due within one year
or less. If not, they are presented as non-current liabilities. Trade creditors are recognised initially at transaction
price and subsequently measured at amortised cost using the effeclive interest method.
3.13 Derecognitlon of financlal Ilabllltles
Financial Ilabllllles are derecognised when the charity's contractual obligations expire or are discharged or
cancelled.
3.14 Taxation
The charity is exempt from ¢orporation tax on its charitable activities.
3.15 Employee banèfits
The cost of any unused holiday enlillement is recognised in the period In whl¢h the employ88's services are
received.
Termination benefits are recognised immediately as an expense when the charity is demonstrably committed to
terminate the employment of an employee or to provide termination benefi'ts.
3.16 Retlrement beneflts
Payments lo defined contribution retirement benefit schemes are charged as an expense as they lall due.
3.17 Critical accountlng estlmates and judgements
In the application of the charity's accounting policies, the trustees are required lo make judgements, estimates
and assumptions about the carrying amount of assets and liabilities that are not readily apparent from other
Soufces, The estimates and associated a5sumplion5 are based on historical experience and other faclors that
are considered to be relevant. Actual results may differ from these estimates.
The estimates and underlying assumptions are reviewed on an ongoing basis. Revisions to a¢¢ounling
eslimales are recognised in the period in which the estimate is ￿vISed where the revision affects only that
pefiod, or in the period of the revision and future perlods where Ihe revision affects both current and future
peiiods.
3.18 Trustees
None of the trustees (or any persons connected with them) received any remuneration or benefits from the
harity during the year.
