## **Objectives and activities**

## **Summary of the objects of the charity**

The promotion of community participation in healthy recreation for the benefit of inhabitants of Mossley and surrounding areas, by the provision of coaching for the playing of football.

## **Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects**

The club provided coaching to allow over 240 young people from the local community and surrounding areas to enjoy football in a well supervised and trained environment every week.

## **Additional objectives and activities**

Our 40 coaches and volunteers make a fabulous contribution to providing the appropriate environment for the young people to develop both physically, emotionally and socially.

The commitment from the Management team ensures that we continue to improve the current provision of services, with long term objectives of finding permanent premises for the club to facilitate continued growth for the benefit of the young people and community. This year saw a large step forward for a permanent base following discussions with another community group which opens up the possibility of redeveloping a local football pitch.

This year saw our soccer school flourish and expand beyond 30 youth players. In addition another age group doubled in size to over 40 players. Our open age team continues to grow as did all the other teams.

The trustees have also taken steps to begin funding for defibrillators for the local community and the club, due to the recent tragedies on the football fields affecting a number of players world-wide. We as trustees feel that if we can aid the community our supporters and our players in providing this equipment then it is a potential life saved.

## **Premises**

The trustees identified a further location for permanent premises and met with a local architect to discuss re-development of the area that would also include and benefit other local sports groups as well as introduce new sporting opportunities for the young people of the community. The next stage is identifying potential funding sources for the project. This project remains ongoing.

**Trustees' Annual Report** _(conti nu ed)_

## **Year ended 31 August 2020**

## **Achievements and performance**

## **Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year**

The volunteers of Mossley Juniors have been rewarded with the highest honour in volunteering by receiving the Queens Award for Volunteering. This is a significant achievement and one that the club are tremendously proud of.

All footballing activity was conducted in a manner consistent with the Football Associations Respect Campaign.

Increased investment in equipment that will have a greater long term benefit.

Continued investment in coaching education, first aid including defibrillator training, safeguarding and FA coaching courses such as Youth Award and Level 1.

The club has continued to maintain it's Charter Standard status with the Football Association.

## **Financial review**

Our main sources of funds this year have been subscriptions of £23,950 (2019 : £35,315). This has been supplemented by fund raising activities of £1,500 (2019:£6,795) and other voluntary income.

All income is applied to the provision of playing football for our teams. Income is controlled and the support of volunteers ensures that the maximum amount possible is used to meet our objects.

The trustees are aware that due to insufficient funds they are unable to generate reserves to safeguard the future of the charity. Because the charity has no employees or premises and the majority of costs are on an operating basis, the trustees recognise that most costs would terminate with cessation of activity, however they are constantly aware of the pressure created by lack of reserve funds.

## **Plans for future periods**

These financial statements represent our fourth accounting period for the charity. The Board and Executive Committee would like to encourage more candidates to join the charity to extend the knowledge and skill base of the Board. The Executive Committee have continued to develop an improved system for collection of subscriptions through direct debits and improved the banking facilities to enable more expedient processing of income and expenditure.

The Trustees and Executive Committee are mindful that, to grow the charity for the benefit of young people, additional fundraising activities will need to be undertaken, and additional income obtained from funding sources and local sponsors and supporters.

Continue to provide activities for our membership to increase their life skills through activities outside of football.
