Trustees, Report: The aim of the charity is: To advance the educatton of the public. particularly but not exdusively those residing in Gateshead and surrounding area by developing key literacy skills with the aim of advancing education and employment prospects and life skills. Achlevements and PerfornMnce: Over the last year. Bringing Words to Life, have continued to deliver a wide range of literacy workshops in schools and with community groups. Over the last year Bringing Words to Lrfe has continued to deliver a wider range of activities in and around the North East, as well as working with a number of schools in Manchester. We wothed with 408 young people across four drfferent seth'ngs in Newcastle and Gateshead. We provided tutoring support for three young people had been excluded from schwl through Gateshead Counal. We ran a Ch)Istmas Poety competition which involved five schools. Over 578 articles were wrttten through the supp)rt of our programmes. We employed iwo young people through the Kickstart programme. We provided volunteer opportunrties for 13 young people. Covid-19 had an immense impact on our delivery as schools closed and our prograrnmes ceased running. However. this time was used for reflection and adaptation, and we were able to deliver remotely in the 20121 financial year. Plans for the future: We continued to develop one of our key programmes as a stsnd-alone resource through funding from the EDP. This will be available nationally. Rlsk Management: The Trustees are examining the major risks. 1¢h the organisation faces in relation to extemal factors. governan, and intemal operations of the organisation. They are considering the likelihood and the impact of risks and reviewing what systems should be in place to control and reduce those risks. Reserves Pollcy: It is the policy of the charity to ty and build up unrestricted funds, which are free reserves of the organisation. lo a level that equates to approximatety 3 months unrestricted expenditure. This would provide sufficient funds to cover the management and administration support costs and any emergencies that may arise from time to time.
The Trustees are responsible for keeping proper accounting records which disclose with reasonable accuracy the financial position of the charity, which enables them to aSrtain the financial position of the company and enable them to compty with applicable law. The DirectOrsrUsteeS are also responsible for the safeguarding the assets of the charitable company and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities. Trustees. Responsibilitie5: The Trustees are responsible for keeping proper accounting records, which disclose with reasonable accuracy the financial position of the charity which enables them to ascertain the financial position of the company and enable them to comply with applicable law. The Trustees are also responsible for the safeguarding the assets of the charitable o?mpany and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities. For the year ending 311812021 the company was entitled to exemption from audit under section 477 of the Companies Act 2006 relating to small companies. The members have not required the company to obtain an audit in accdan with section 476 of the Companies Act 2006. The directors acknowledge their responsibility for comptying with the requirements of the Act with respect to accounting records and for the preparation of awounts. . These accounts have been prepared in accordance with the provisions applicable to companies subject to the small companies regime. Independent Examln•rs Report: I report on the financial ststements of Bringing Words to Life Ltd for the year ended 315t August 2021, which are set out on pages 7-9. Respective responsibilities of Trustees and Examlner: The charity's tnjstees (who are also the directors of the company for the purposes of company law) are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charivs trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144(2) of the Charities Act 2011. and an independent examination is needed. Having satisfied myself that the charity if not subject to audit under company law and is eligible for independent examination. it is my responsibility to: Examine the accounts under section 145 of the 2011 Act. Follow the proCedUS laid down in the General Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145 (5) (b) of the 2011 Act: and State whether particular matters have come to my attention. Basls of examinerfs statement: My examination was caffied wt in accordance with General Directions given by the Charity Commissioners. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison presented with those rewds. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts and seeking explanations from the trustees COnmIng any such matters.
