Frlends of Bun Commun Libra Annual Re ort of the Trustees June 2026 The last Iwelve months have seen significanly less direct involvementbythe Friends in the work of the Library. The move of the Library seNice back underthe control of Suffolk County Counul has resulted in a numberof changesforthe staff. It is testamentto their good will and hard work that there have been no obvious Changes in the experience of customers who continue to benefitfrom a wide range of acttvities and services. The staff have found Ihey have little time to give to supporting fund raising and additional social events. As a consequence, the role of the Friends has shift& increasinglyto maintaining an oversightoffundsand supportlng spending in line ouroriginal objectives. We continueto raise fundsthroughthesaleofgreetings cards and second-handbooks and CDS. We also receive donationsfrom a numberofour users and we claim gift aid where possible. We are fortunate to be in a very strong position financiallyand to know Ihatlhe Library building improvements, which we completed lastyear, have secUd a welcomingand attractive environment which should need litue extra work for the nextfew years. It is important that we do not underestimate the impact of the fundswhich we have been able to continue to release to the Librdry the donations from the Friends continue to enhance theservices forusers beyond the core offerprovided through Ihe County Council funding. Examples of the activities our donations have supported include: Supportfora range ofchildren's activities includingcraftand Lego clubs during the school holidays and throughout the year on Saturday momings. Moming sessions forunderschool age children and theirparents I carers, and the After School Club on Thursdays Combined with the targeted financial support of Bungay Lions the excellent work with local schools and playgroups has continued. Story telling sessions and the provision of book boxes have been particularly welcomed by the schools. The Wam Rooms offercontinuesto be very popularand importantto a numter of local residents. The hygiene packs. menstrual products, pet food donations and emergency food packs which can beobtainedfrom the Library are clearly a welcome lifdine for many. Social activities such as Scrabble, Cribbage, the jigsaw table and newspapers. continue to be popular and well used. At the end of Ihis year we find ourselves in a position where we need to seriOUY considerthe most effective way for the Friends, Charity to move forward. After careful research, thought and discussion the Tnjstees are proposing changes in our constitution. The aim of these changes is to maintain the role of the Friends in supporling Ihe Library whilstmaking the govemance simpler but more effecb've and sustainable. We hope our members will support our proposals.
