**Summary of the main activities undertaken for the** 

- 1) To advance the education of the public by the funding and promotion of medical and/or scientific research into Non-Ketotic Hyperglycinemia (NKH) with the aim of finding improved treatments and developing a cure for the condition and to publish the useful results arising from such research. 

- 2) The relief of sickness and the promotion and presentation of good health by the provision of grants and/or equipment to anyone in the UK suffering from NKH. 

In planning our activities for the year, we kept in mind the Charity Commission’s guidance on public benefit at our Trustees’ meetings

We have interacted with both Professor Nick Greene, UCL, and NKH Crusaders in the USA regarding the current state and progress with the Research and this has reinforced our previous decision to channel all current funding to UCL. 

Conferences 

2 Trustees attended the Boston Conference in April 2024 and Joseph’s Goal hosted a Zoom Conference with Professor Greene and NKH families in May 2024.

Business Expos have not taken place on the same scale since the Covid pandemic and this has removed an element of our ability to communicate with a section of the public. We will attend any future Business Expos where there is potential for networking.

All policies are reviewed on an annual basis. The grantmaking policy forms part of our Financial Controls package. 

A significant contribution has been made by our loyal band of volunteers to the numerous Fund Raising events, Sponsored events, Monthly Lottery Draws and Charity Box proprietors, without which the Charity would not have been able to achieve so much.

We were supported by a number of NKH families – in particular Jack Donohoe, Daisy’s Diary, Remembering Rowan, Laura Gallagher and Eloise Latimer who all made significant contributions.

Section D                      Achievements and performance 

## **Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year** 

## Fundraising Events 

A net total of £37,526 was raised during the year The main events were : 

The Legends Football Match raised £16,297 and was staged this year at the DW Stadium, home of Wigan Athletic. The Monthly Lottery now has 600 members and raised £17,376 

## Sponsored Events 

A total of £30,263 was raised during the year. 

The main event was the Walk4Joseph to Blackpool which raised £21,960. 

## Donations 

A total of £20,951 was received during the year and comprises both generous personal donations of £2,944 and the Charity Box collection programme of 326 in the local community which raised £18,007. 

## Research 

We continue to receive 6 monthly Reports from UCL. 

Professor Nichola Greene and his research team at UCL use a range of different experimental models to study NKH. Three therapies are moving towards clinical trials. 

Notre Dame Chicago are now working with the UCL team and have donated mouse models. Professor Greene has recently stated that Joseph’s Goal has changed the way NKH treatment has evolved. 

## Board Matters 

The Financial Controls package and the Data Protection Policy and Procedures have been reviewed. 

The Trustees continue to receive Monthly Management Accounts. The Board met on 6 occasions during the year. 

## Future Issues 

We have plans to review and update the website and other social media opportunities. 

## Charities of the Year 

We retain the support of Nice-Pak, Visions Design, Launch Events NW, Auto Time Systems Northern and Shepherds Hall Ladies Network.

Surplus funds are held in bank to meet any unforeseen expenditure, working capital and potential grants. All expenditure decisions are taken in line with the Charity’s Reserve Policy, a constituent part of our Financial Controls & Policy package.

Research payments in the year totalled £80,000. This takes the cumulative funds sent to Research to £1,180,598.
