The governance of IKWRO Is entrusted to the Board of Trustees I'the Board"), whl¢h currently conslsts

The day-to-day mana8ement of the Organisa￿On Is delegated to the Chlef Executive Officer of the
Charity, Dlana Namml, who reports to the Trustee5 and who work5 Withln the pollcy and procedural
framework of the Charity.

Recruitment and A
olntment of Trustees
The Trustees who served during the year 2023-2024 are shown on page l of the accounts, In
ccordance wlth the Charit¢5 constitution, Trustees are elerted annually at the Annual General
Meeting by the members of the Charlty.
Trustees are appolnted on a three-year term and are eliglble for re-election at the Annual General
Meetlng.
Trustees are recruited through webslte advertlsements. Personal recommendations are also used
when specific skillsets are requlred. Candidates submit a written applicatlon in the first instance. A
shortlist of candidates is selected for interview wlth present members of the Board of Trustee5.
All new Trustees undergo an Induction day wlth the Chief Executive Officer of the Charlty and a tralnin8
day on thelr role and responsiblllties under Charlty Law, typlcally through thlrd-party organlsations
such as The Natlonal Council ft)r Voluntary Organisations I"NCVO'I.
Furthermore, in orderto ensure thatthe Trustees recelve ongolngsupport and are best ableto support
the Charlty's oblecttve5, the Board wlll, where resources allow, enable a small number of Trustees to
attend further tralnln8 courses In relation to theSr role as Trustees,

They are re5pon51ble for monitorlng the Charlty's accountlng records whlch dlsclose wlth reasonable
accuracy at any tlme the flnanclal posltlon of the Charlty and enable5 them to ensure that the financlal
statements follow best practlce.
They are responslble for ensurlng that the Charity safeguards Its assets and therefore takes reasonable
steps for the prevention and detectlon of fraud and other 1rre8ulari￿e5, The system of internal control
Is deslgned to provlde reasonable but not absolute assurance agalnst materlal mlsstatement or loss.

the Charlty. Any connectlon between a Trustee of the Charlty and or8anisadons provldln8 services to
the Charlty must be disclosed to the full Board of Trustees sn the same way as any contractual
relatlonshlp wlth a related party. In the current year no such related party transacdons were reported.
AcfiviTIE
AND ACHIEVEMENTS
IKWRO had a successful year In term of achlevlng Its alms and in safeguarding and empowering women
and 8lrls. Thanks to our dedlcated staff, volunteer5, the Board of Tru5tee5, funders and donors, and our
partner organlsatlon.
We cannot dlscuss challenges wlthout mendonlng the post COVID-19 crlsls and also cost of Ilvlng crises
whlch has had a dlsturblng effect on every organlsatlon and our clients. IKWRO is no exception. We
have observed the sltuation carefLJlly and acted immediately accordlng to Government pollcy, ensurlng
the health and well-belng of our staff and volunteers as well a5 our cllents and servlce users. We have
altered our servlce dellvery to remote and onllne servlces, and we have helped our cllents to better
understand and adapt to the new situation by supporting them by allocating resources to ease thelr
difficultle5 and problems. Post Pandemic, we continue to adopt to work on hybrid system.

The impact of the pandemlc and cost of living cri5e5 has been that we have seen a great increase in
demand for our servlces from vulnerable women and girls.
We at IKWRO are Immensely grateful forthe funders for provlding emergency COVID-19 fund and cost
of living crlses support which has enabled us to respond to thls crlsls sltuation as well as we do already.
Thls year, IKWRO'S Impact has been particularly proft)und both In indlvldual cases and in securing
hlstoric changes to law and pollcy.
Advlce and Advocacy: IKWRO'S team of professional advi50r and advocates have supported 680
Women and girls form Mlddle Eastern, North African and Afghan IMENAI communitle5, who a￿ livin8
In the UK and have experSenced or are at rlsk of "honour" based abuse, forced marrlage, chlld
marrlage, female genital mutilation, kidnapplng and child abduction, mainly ID Kurdish, Arablc, Farsl,
Dari, Pashto, Turkish and Engllsh langua8es. Our services have been face-to frdce, virtually and via
telephone. We saw an Increase in hl8h rlsk and complex cases and a rise In demand for refuge spaces,
especlally from single women and women who have 'No Recourse to Publlc Fund5, a5 well a5 for safe
and adequate housln8 for famllies,

Speclallst Counsellln8 Servlce: This year we supported 178 c5ients In indlvldual therapy in Farsl, Darl,
Pushto, Kurdlsh. Arabic, Turklsh and Engllsh. We also ran group therapy sesslons Includlng a drama
and movement group at the refuge. IKWRO continue5 to recelve lots of complex presentatlons from
the NHS. Housin8 and Imml8ration is5ue5 are ongoln8 barrler5 for cllents, preventln8 them from
feellng settled and limltlng thelr capaclty to engage wlth therapy as their sense of safety remalns
precarlous.
IKWRO'S speclallst refuge: This year IKWRO women's refuge has supported 17 sln8le women.
Several ofthe women had 'no recourse to publlc funds. We supported the women by provldlng
accommodatlon and flnancially help them as they submltted appllcatlon5 under the Destltutlon
Domestic Vlolence Concesslon or clalmed asylum. Some faced delays In securln8 thelr Imml8ratlon
status. Due to the needs of women at risk of violence, we mana8ed to expand our refuges this year.
We face challenges wlth Counclls offerlng unsultable and substandard accommodatlon, where the
women do not feel safe and secure. We challenge the Councll Sn these cases.
Tralnln8: IKWRO dellvers tralnlng on Identlfying and best prattices in preventlon and responses to
harmful practice5, includlng "honourf, based abuse, forced marriage, chlld Marrla8e, female 8enltal
mutllatlon, vlrglnity testing and domestlc abuse, to professlonals, young people and communities.
Thls year, IKWRO reached over 150 profe551onals from statutory and voluntary organlsatlons
Includlng soclal work, healthcare• pollclng, law, educatlon, housln8 and the charlty Sector.

IKWRO has contlnued to develop connectlons with educational 5ettln8s. Thls year we en8aged 525
students from secondary schools and sixth forms. Particlpants were equlpped wlth knowledge of
harmful practlces and unhealthy relatlonshlps, includlng how to recognlse the warning sign5 and
where to go for sUPPOrt.
Crosslng Pathway Prolect: IKWRO reco8nises that there Is a slgnlficant gap In knowledge withln the
healthcare system about harmful practice5 and how to safeguard those at risk of harm from them.
Through thls project IKWRO helped to bridge that gap. Through thi5 project, IKWRO has succeeded
in providlng tralnln8 to a total of 628 healthcare professlonals and participant5 have expressed
Increased confldence In addresslng harmful practices.
NRPF GLA Spousal Vlsa ProJe¢t: IKWRO are partners In th15 pan-London projec( whlch brlngs
together nlne or8an15ations and alms to support survlvors of spousal domestic abuse and 'honou
based abuse who have 'no recourse to publlc funds,, and thelr chlldren. The project offers a helpline,
support In accesslng safe accommodatlon and the provlslon of floatlng support.
IKWRO has succeeded In supportln8 24 women and thelr chlldren with bed spaces and support In
our speclallst refu8e, as well as through floatln8 SUPPOrt for women In other safe accommodatlon, Hs
they be8ln new chapters In thelr Ilves free from abuse.
HBrmful Pra¢tl¢es Project: Through thls project wlth MOPAC and London Councll, IKWRO tackle5
harmful practlces through community engagement and by worklng dlre¢tly wlth women across
London who are experlenclng or are at risk of harmful practlces. Across the London borou8hs of
Klngston-upon-Thames, Merton, and Southwark, we collaborated with communltles and local
organlsatlons Ilke "LA Fraternlte Gulneenne to provlde advice and advocacy to 104 women.
IKWRO raised awareness wlthln communltles, offerlng speclallst tralnlng to Increase knowledge on
rl8hts so women can make Safe, informed declslons. We dellvered 12 community workshops to 98
women. We referred many Indlvlduals to speclallst sexual and health cllnlcs, FGM cllnlcs, and
counsellln8 servlces. Sl8nlficantly, wlth our culturally speclflc competent servlces, we were able to
support many of the women in thelr flrst lan8uages of Kurdish, Farsl, French, Arablc, Darl and
Pashto.
The WISER Prolert: Thls ProJect Is a partnershlp of speclallst charltles worklng to end male vlolence
and abuse. We work with women who are frequently excluded from malnstream services and/or
flnd It hard to enga8e wlth support, Our outreach actlvlty, trauma-lnformed approach and flexlble l-
l and group support helps women and glrls to get the Support they need. IKWRO provlded Intenslve
support to 6 hlgh-rlsk women thls year through weekly meeting5 and outreach.
Campalgnln8.' Bulldlng on our successful Safeguard Futures Ban Chlld Marrlage campal8n, whlch
saw chlld marrla8e become a crlmlnal offence In February 2023, IKWRO has been Increasln8
knowledge and implementatlon of the law ond advocatlng for an end to chlld marrlage globally, and
all forms of "honour" based abuse, IKWRO has contrlbuted to vital conversatlons In Parllament, at
number 10 Downln8 Street, In unlversltles, and across medla platforms.

With a focus on physical and mental health, IKWRO particlpated in the Women's Health Collective
roundtable focuslng on the well-belng of women from diverse backgrounds. We were speaker5 at an
NHS event In FGM where we advocated for stronger mental health support for FGM survlvors.
To mark the Internatlonal Day for Zero Tolerance of FGM, IKWRO held a conference, Invitlng both
statutory and non-statutory organi5atlons to d15cuss and hlghlight 8ap5 in Servi￿ provlsion for FGM
5urvlvor5 and strategles to combat this Issue.
IKWRO Contlnued our leader5hlp on Improvlng the response of the crfmlnal Justlce system to
"honourt based abuse. Payzee Mahmod, IKWRO'S Campalgn Manager, spoke at New Scotland Yard
on changes we want to see to pollclngi and presented on challen8es arlslng In the courts In cases
Involvlng 'honourf' based abuse at an event with Manchester Unlvers5ty.
We contlnued to collaborate wlth young people, engaglng students at a number of unlversltles and
colleges Includlng King's Colle8e, Queen Mary Universityi Red Brid8e New City College and London
New Clty College and partner organlsatlon,
IKWRO continues to use our platforms to advocate for the rlght5 of women and girls globally. We
spoke at Parllament on the future of women In Kurdlstan and to BBC One's "Polnt5 of View,, for a
documentary based on the experlences ofyoung Afghan women p05t-Tallban takeover. We also
presented to the Coun¢ll of Forelgn Relatlons. drawlng on our successful campalgnln8 wlthln the UK
to advocate for an end to chSld marrlage In the USA.

having been subjected at the age of 9 and later modern-day 51avery, and trafflckln8. Hallmot has

The pollt1cal and economlc environment In the UK has become a struggle for Small charltable
or8anlsattons due to C05t of Ilvln8, and changes post Covld 19 pandemlc. Although Brexlt was the end
of EU fundSng opportunltyfor IKWRO, but managed to find other sources wlthln the UK to replace thls
funding 8ap In Ilne with its Ethical Fundralsln8 poII¢y.
Fundlng for the year 202412025 has been secured for IKWRO'S core actIvI￿eS and the prlmary alm of
IKWRO Is to further develop the provlslon of welfare services for our tar8et 8roups.
Overall, IKWRO'S goals are the followlng:

In Its mi55ion and increaslng the level of engagement of the publlc wlth these Issues.
4. Lobbying the government and Its pollcy makers for better laws and their Implementation as
well as the dedICa￿On of appropriate resources to the tacklln8 the Issues Idenfjfled by the
Charlty.
5. Ralslng fundlngi through public bodle5 and private bodle5 and Indivlduals, to support ex15tln8
actlvltles and growth plans, In partlcular IKWRO plans to expand Its sources of fundin8 to
Include more fundlng from the private sector and the publlc at large alongslde that of Its
existinB funders and sources of fundln8 to replace the fundlng received as a member of the

The Board of Trustees considers that the Charlty's senior management team comprlse the key
management personnel of the Charlty in charge of directing, controllin8, runnlng and operating the
Charity on a day to day bas15. No director, other than Dlana Namml, recelved remuneration in the year.
Dlana Nammi received remuneratlon In her capaclty as Chlef Execudve Officer and thls is reflected in
the financlal statements. The pay of senlor staff, Including Diana Nammi, is revlewed annually and
normally Increased in Ilne wlth Local Authorlty pay scale5.
Revlew of the flnanclal arilvltles
The total income for the year amounted to £1,237.622,12023'. £1,167,995), wlth expendlture
amountin8 to £1,086,168,12023', £986,831), leavlng a surplus In the year of £151,454,
12023:£181,1651. Accumulated reserves at the balance sheet date amounted to £829,592, {2023:
£678,137), of whlch £829,592,12023:£678,1371, represent Income reserves.

The board of Trustee5 has undertaken a revlew of the Charlty's requlrements for reserves In118ht of
the maln rlsks to the organlsatton. It has establlshed a pollcy whereby the unre5trlcted funds not
commltted or Invested In tangible fixed assets held by the Charity should be 3 to 6 months of the
annual expendlture, The Charlty has set up a deslgnated fund, namely a 'running costs. reseNe, In
Ilne wlth Charity Commlssion recommendation. The reserves are needed to meet the runnlng cost5 of
the charity for three months.
On the I'Aprll 2024, the reserves bud8et stands at £829,592. Of these reserves £400,000 are allocated
to runnlng cost re5erve5 and £IIO,000 to the refuge cost reserves. Whllst these do not represent slx
month5 runnlng costs, the Trustees are confident that at thls level the reserves budget meets the
expendlture for three months of commltted costs. The Trustees wlll contlnue to revlew the reserves
budget on a yearly basls and to transfer addlfjonal funds to Increase the amount held to the
recommended level.

The Trustees (who are also directors of IKWRO - Women's Rights Org3nis3tion for the purposes of
company law} are responsible for preparing the Trustees, Annual Report and the financial statements
in accordance with appllcable law and United Kingdom Accounting Standards Iunited Kingdom
GeneraSly Acèepted Accounting Practicel.
Company law requires the Trustees to prepare financlal statements for each flnancial year, whlch give
a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the charitable company and of the incoming resources and
application of resources, including the income and expenditure, of the charitsble company for that
period. In preparing these financial statements, the Trustees are required to..
select suitable accounting policies and then apply them consistentlv,.
observe the methods and principles In the Charities SORP 2019 IFRS 102);
make judgement5 and estimates that are reasonable and prudent;
state whether applicable UK Accounting Standards have been followed, subject to any
material departures disclosed and explained in the financial statements;
prepare the financlal statements on the golng concern basis unless it is Inappropriate to
presume that the charitable company will continue In operation.
The Trustees are responsible for keeping adequate accounting records that disclose with reasonable
accuracy at any time the financial position of the charitable company and enable them to ensure that
the financial statements comply with the Companles Act 2006, They are also responsible for
safeg,uarding the assets of the charitable company and hence for taking reasonable steps for the
prevÉintlon aAd detection of fraud and other irregularlties.
In so far as the Trustees are aware:
there is no relevant audlt Information of which the charitable company's audltor is unaware,.
and
th£4Trustees have taken all steps that they ought to have taken to make themselves aware of
any relevant audit information and to establish that the auditor is aware of that Information.
The Trustees are responsible for the malntenance and inte8rity of the corporate and financla5
information included on the charitable company's webslte. Legislation in the United Klngdom
governiyg the preparation and dissemination of financlal statements may differ from legislation in
other ji Irisdictions.

exlst. The trustees have consldered the level of funds held and the expected level of Income and expendlture for 12 months
