The object of the charity is to prevent cruelty and to relieve suffering and distress of cats and kittens in need of care and attention. The Charity's objectives are to rescue abandoned, injured and homeless cats and kittens, providing veterinary care, food and accommodation as necessary, but with the ultimate aim of re-homing healthy animals wherever possible.

Chairperson Annual Report
The charity trustees considered that an audit is not required this year (under section 43(2) of the Charities Act 1993 and that an independent examination is all that is required.
This was carried out by Nicky Cole, Mad About Book-Keeping, Wolfe Mead, Farnham Road, Bordon GU35 0NH
Each year seems to get more challenging for rescues and this has been no different. More cats needing homes. Increases in vet’s fees and less people able to adopt. The cost of living crisis is having a direct effect with rescues.
Fundraising this year has been with our local Pets at Home store, Winchester who we are partnered with and have been for a few years now. With partnership with Pets at Home Winchester, the in-store events still took place, but were less frequent and more structured this year. We attended a select few external events to raise funds and awareness.
We continue to have a dedicated core of Trustees, Volunteers and Supporters, who have been with us since we were established in August 2012, without them this charity would not exist.
Highlights for this year:
-
We have sadly lost 1 trustee this year.
-
We received a sizable gift from a local resident in their will.
-
Continuation of our monthly newsletter, which is bi-monthly.

Rescue & Re-homing / Animal Report
Rehoming has slowed right down this year, but sadly the number of cats needing help has increased yet again.
During 2024/2025 our intake numbers were at 51 cats/kittens. We have had 21 of these neutered through our vets and all our kittens are rehomed under a neutering contract. All of these have been successfully neutered by their due dates with confirmation from the owner’s vets received as confirmation.
We have continued to offer a discounted neutering scheme at our vets, Downland Vets, in Bordon. This service allows people on a low income or struggling with the cost of getting their cat neutered. Most of the larger charities locally will assist people on benefits, but we offer the help to low income families who otherwise do not get any support.
During this year, we have managed to offer help to 2 families and get 2 cats / kittens neutered under our voucher scheme.
We have continued to use Downland Veterinary Practice, Bordon as our primary vets for all the veterinary care needed by the animals in our rescue. We now also have a number of other accounts with local vets and building close relationships with them too.
Treasurer’s Report
Our main sources of funds this year has been through donations, fundraising, gift aid and selling of donated items.
Pets at Home Winchester, who we continue to be partnered with, we have been unable to attend the store for promotional work or fundraising for the charity.

With the support we get from Pets at Home we also receive donated items from members of the public and damaged stock, which can be food and litter. These are vital in helping us save funds from buying these items, and the funds can go directly towards helping the cats. The VIP scheme they run also provides us with vouchers to spend in store, also saving us much needed money for vet’s fees.
Under usual circumstances fund raising is constant from March through to December, with donations kindly given all year in cash, bank transfer or PayPal. We have promoted regular donations directly into our bank this year from supporters which helps bring in extra income to the charity.
Finally, we would like to thank the support of our Trustees, Volunteers and Supporters. Without each one of you we would not be able to operate and help the large numbers of cats and kittens that we do.
We have continued to upgrade / improve the facilities at HO which will make viewings of the cats more friendly and safe for all those attending. These included improvements to our lighting around the property for safer access and, maintenance work to our cattery for necessary and essential repairs. Upgrades to some of the cattery equipment was made to ensure our cats have the most enriched time whilst with us.
Independent examiner's report to the trustees of HappyCats Rescue
I report on the accounts of the Trust for the year ended 31[st] March 2025, which are set out on pages 10 & 11.
Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner
The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity's trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144(2) of the Charities Act 2011 (the 2011 Act) and that an independent examination is needed.
It is my responsibility to:
~ Examine the accounts under section 145 of the 2011 Act;
~ To follow the procedures laid down in the general Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the 2011 Act; and
~ To state whether particular matters have come to my attention.
Basis of independent examiner's report
My examination was carried out in accordance with the general Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and consequently, no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a 'true and fair view' and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.
Independent examiner's statement
In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention:
(1) Which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements:
~ To keep accounting records in accordance with section 130 of the 2011 Act; and
~ To prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with the accounting requirements of the 2011 Act have not been met; or
(2) To which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
