## Aims of the charity are :
## Objectives of the charity
The object of the charity is to prevent cruelty and to relieve suffering and distress of cats and kittens in need of care and attention. The Charity's objectives are to rescue abandoned, injured and homeless cats and kittens, providing veterinary care, food and accommodation as necessary, but with the ultimate aim of re-homing healthy animals wherever possible.
The charity recognises that its financial position must be sound and secure and that its financial activities should at least break even each year.
## Structure, governance and management
## Governing document
The charity is controlled by its governing document, a deed of trust, and constitutes an unincorporated charity.
## Charity constitution
HappyCats Rescue was established in August 2012, under a constitution dated 7[th] March 2013, as an unincorporated charity and was registered with the Charity's Commission on 25[th] March 2013. Trustees must themselves be members of the charity and are elected or re-elected by the members of the Charity at the Annual General Meeting. New trustees maybe appointed by the trustees during the course of the year, to be formally elected at the next Annual General Meeting. No trustees have received remuneration for their work in the period.
HappyCats Rescue is governed by the trustees who are responsible for formulating the strategies and policies of the charity including the exercising of financial controls.

## Chairperson Annual Report
The charity trustees considered that an audit is not required this year (under section 43(2) of the Charities Act 1993 and that an independent examination is all that is required.
This was carried out by Nicky Cole, Mad About Book-Keeping, Wolfe Mead, Farnham Road, Bordon GU35 0NH
This year has been a challenging year for us as a recue with price increases from vets, cost of living crisis hitting families and rescues hard.
Fundraising this year has commenced on a more limed basis and selected local events are still attended by our fundraising team. With our continued partnership with Pets at Home Winchester, the in-store events still took place, and we attended for these and other ad hoc days. We supported their amazing team through our Facebook page also.
We continue to have a dedicated core of Trustees, Volunteers and Supporters, who have been with us since we were established in August 2012, without them this charity would not exist.
Highlights for this year:
- Continuation of our monthly newsletter, which is now bi-monthly.
- Cat proofing the exterior of our cattery area for further enrichment for the cats.

## Rescue & Re-homing / Animal Report
This past year has been a strange one with the UK pandemic. Rehoming came to almost a grinding halt. As too did the number of cats needing to come into rescue.
During 2023/2024 our intake numbers were 12 cats/kittens. We have had 10 of these neutered through our vets and all our kittens are rehomed under a neutering contract. All of these have been successfully neutered by their due dates with confirmation from the owner’s vets received as confirmation.
We have continued to offer a discounted neutering scheme at our vets, Downland Vets, in Bordon. This service allows people on a low income or struggling with the cost of getting their cat neutered. Most of the larger charities locally will assist people on benefits, but we offer the help to low income families who otherwise do not get any support.
During this year, we have managed to offer help to 2 families and get 2 cats / kittens neutered under our voucher scheme.
We have continued to use the Downland Veterinary Practice, Bordon for all the veterinary care needed by the animals in our rescue. Wed have also branched out to other local veterinary practices as our vets were taken over by a corporate, so we now have price increases twice a year. Seeking the best prices for vet treatment is paramount now.

## Treasurer’s Report
Our main sources of funds this year has been through donations, fundraising, and selling of donated items.
Pets at Home Winchester, who we are still partnered with, we have been able to attend the store for promotional work and fundraising for the charity. Mostly on pre-arranged days and their annual fundraising events.
With the support we get from Pets at Home we also received donated items from members of the public and damaged stock, which can be food and litter. These are vital in helping us save funds from buying these items, and the funds can go directly towards helping the cats. The VIP scheme they run also provides us with vouchers to spend in store, also saving us much needed money for vet’s fees.
Under usual circumstances fund raising is constant from March through to December, with donations kindly given all year in cash, bank transfer or PayPal. However, some members of our small fundraising team were affected by circumstances beyond their control which impacted our attendance at some events.
Finally, we would like to thank the support of our Trustees, Volunteers and Supporters. Without each one of you we would not be able to operate and help the large numbers of cats and kittens that we do.
We have put measure in place to upgrade the facilities at HO which will make viewings of the cats more friendly and to enable everyone to socially distance and keep safe. These included a new patio area, improved fencing. We have now cat proof the exterior so the cats can have more freedom and enrichment while in our care.

I report on the accounts of the Trust for the year ended 31[st] March 2024, which are set out on pages 9 & 10.
Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner
The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity's trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144(2) of the Charities Act 2011 (the 2011 Act) and that an independent examination is needed.
It is my responsibility to:
- ~ Examine the accounts under section 145 of the 2011 Act;
~ To follow the procedures laid down in the general Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the 2011 Act; and
~ To state whether particular matters have come to my attention.
Basis of independent examiner's report
My examination was carried out in accordance with the general Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and consequently, no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a 'true and fair view' and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.

In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention:
(1) Which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements:
~ To keep accounting records in accordance with section 130 of the 2011 Act; and
~ To prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with the accounting requirements of the 2011 Act have not been met; or
(2) To which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
