Covid-19
We returned to schocl after a summer of rewe from the constraints wnwsed upon us during the Covid19

installation of furthei hand sanrtising dispensers. masks. S¢xkAI distan¢ing and updates to our Covtd poI￿leS

Return to School plan. Change5 to drop off and pick up b.mes were implemented lo ensu￿ social distsn¢ing and

On 5th January the govemment announced a third Ictkd¢M due lo the pandemic. As an independent special

th a sman number of families opting not to retum so knons were provided remotely via Micr050ft Teams.
Twice-weekly lateral flow Covid testing was impkrnented for all staff and pupils in YeaT 7 and above. Thi5 was
conducted by members of our staff specially trained in the testing procedure and t(x)k Pla￿ in our Lrfe Skills

There was minimal disrupti￿ to the PLpils' ed￿tion desprte the new regime and subsequent kKkdown. Whe

the Shanly Fc4Jndation. It was a great success and rt is intended that we will continue to have a 'pop-up' town
eenlre shop thanks lo our links wlh the Shanty Group retail diwsion who gffted the use of it to us. We were
delighted at the impact that it had on our pupils who enjoyed V￿rkIng there and mary of our parents vc4unleered

• Covkl-19 Impact
As far as inwne is con¢emed. we are fortunate that all fees for pupils fvnded by L￿al Authorities are
guaranteed and they have been generalty efficient in Pa￿n9 invoices and this makes up almost all of OUT pupII5.
There is no immediate effect on our financial sustainability. I￿￿ver L￿al Authority bud9els may be cut in

Scheme changes
In December 2018, the Court of Appeal held that tranS￿"Onal protection prowsions contained in the
reformed judicial and firefvjhler penS￿n 5themes. introduced a5 part of Publ￿ se￿￿ pensKJn reforms in
2015. gave fise to di￿1 age discriminatton and were therefore untavhul. The sUp￿me Court, in a
decision made in June 2019. reie¢ted the Govemment's applution for perniission to appeal the Court of
Appeal's ruling and subsequently referred the ￿se to an Employment Tribunal to determine a remedy
which will need to be offered to those members of the tV4D schemes th We￿ subject of the age
discrimination.
Since then. claims have also been lodged against the main publi¢ service schemes including Ihe TPS.
The Department has conceded those in line wth the rest of the government. In July 2020 HM Treasury
launched a 12-week public consuhation whKh will pThide e￿dence to support the delivery of an
appropriate remedy for the affected s¢hemes, I￿lUding TPS.
A final remedy will be dete￿Ined once the results of the consuttation are established.
In Decembei 2019. a further legal chaiferKJe was made against the TPS relating to an identified equalities
issue whereby male survivors of opposil&sex marriages and civil partnerships a￿ treated less favourab
than survivors in same-sex marriages and ciwl partnerships. The Secretsry of Slate for Educatton
agreed not lo defend the case. In June 2020. the Employment Tribvnal re￿￿ed its findings in respect of
the cFaimant. DIE is currenty vnrkiThJ lo eslabltsh ￿al changes are r￿eSSary lo address this
discrimination.
Any impact of these events will be tsken into account when the next Scheme valuabon is implemented.
This is schedU￿d to be implemented in April 2023. based on April 2020 dats.
