ABOUT US

The Kinetic Foundation is an innovative London-based football and education charity which helps young people who reside in the most deprived areas of the UK, are from low-income households and/or from historically marginalised ethnic backgrounds to stay in education through their passion for football.

We empower young people to successfully transition into employment, training, university, or the professional game, resulting in increased workforce participation, reduced social inequalities, and greater opportunities for lifelong success.

THE NEED

The UK has high levels of young people who are Not in Education, Employment or Training (NEET) and low levels of social mobility. Linked to this, a young person's outcomes are disproportionately affected by the demographic and economic status they are born into. Through delivering our mission, we aim to break this cycle.

ENSURING OUR WORK DELIVERS OUR AIMS

We have now completed the 14th year of operation as a registered charity. In the last 12 months, as in the previous years, we have built upon the projects we continue to run and launch, all with further success. Continually reviewing how our projects connect to and further our aims and objectives, we monitor each project as they progress and assess the achievements and the benefits that they have brought to our young people, so learning important lessons.

WHAT WE DO

Our activity is split into 3 key pillars, each focussing on a specific audience and outcome. We use football as the main driver for the development of meaningful, impactful relationships.

This in turn builds engagement with our education, employability, personal development and mentorship opportunities.

Kinetic Community

Our community pillar encompasses free football development sessions open to all aged 13-16. These run weekly for boys in South and North London and weekly for girls in South London.

We also deliver weekly Real Madrid Foundation’s social sports school sessions, and run HAF (Holiday, Activities & Food) programmes every school holiday for pupils aged 11-16.

Kinetic Academy

Our core sixth-form programme blends:

High-level football training led by UEFA qualified coaches, with training three times a week and a game weekly, with additional showcase games throughout the year. + University-recognised academic and vocational courses delivered in partner schools across London.

Kinetic Futures

All students get access to mentorship, employability workshops and networking opportunities to broaden their horizons and build their future pathways with the aim of reducing their chances of having NEET status.

The above is supplemented with visits to universities, corporate offices and brand HQs for real-life, hands on experience.

To tackle the youth employment crisis in the UK, our programmes are designed to build social and emotional skills to complete further education, and in doing so reduce the number of people falling out of education, employment and training.

A LETTER FROM OUR FOUNDERS

The past 12 months has seen another year of growth through increased participation in our community and academy programmes, taking the number of young people we have engaged with to over 12,250 since the charity’s formation.

The success of our pilot Kinetic Futures projects led to considerable financial support, enabling us to provide nearly 500 16-18 year olds with additional skills and knowledge for routes into employment.

Against a backdrop of increasing challenges for young people, including the continuing cost of living crisis and price rises which have had knock on effects for young people’s mental health, the personal development activities are imperative to deliver positive impact. 2024/2025 was a big year for Kinetic, with exciting developments across both our programmes and the organisation itself. We welcomed a Head of Marketing and Partnerships to increase brand awareness of the charity and lead our new partnership with adidas.

To further enhance our employability and mentorship offerings, we expanded volunteering opportunities for corporate partners, creating meaningful connections for the young people on our programmes.

Our football programme saw growth with the second intake of our full-time girls' programme as well as over 300 matches on the academy programme, and countless hours of high-quality football provision for the youth of London which led to 5 professional signings.

We listened carefully to the Youth Forum, which is comprised of select young people on our programmes, taking feedback on board to introduce positive changes and ultimately ensure our work delivers on our goal of reducing NEET status amongst young people.

Significantly, we partnered with adidas to bolster our mission to empower the next generation of talent on and off the pitch, continue to break down barriers and create opportunities for young people through the power of football.

Our corporate partnerships continued to flourish, with more sustainable income through a variety of longer term partnerships. More and more companies are willing to support our call for mentoring and work experience and we hope to see these programmes continue to grow.

Looking ahead, we’re investing in our fundraising function to continue to seek new corporate partners, look to grow our individual giving and put more resource into trusts and foundations. We still are seeking additional academic institutions with fewer barriers to entry.

KINETIC COMMUNITY

The Kinetic Community programme engages young people from 11-16 at times they are most vulnerable.

We have identified times of high crime and anti-social behaviour in key boroughs to run free football training, holding free to attend football sessions for 13-16 year olds in multiple locations.

We also continue to support young people who receive free school meals during holiday periods, with HAF (Holiday Activities & Food) programmes, providing access to football training and a hot meal.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

FREE FOOTBALL DEVELOPMENT SESSIONS

Our weekly under-16s community sessions run year-round, offering young people a safe space to stay active, connect, and develop during times of higher crime and antisocial behaviour.

All sessions are free to attend, taking place weekly in South and North London for boys and girls.

REAL MADRID FOUNDATION SOCIAL SPORTS SCHOOL

We’re proud to partner with the Real Madrid Foundation to deliver the Social Sports School in Croydon, a life-changing programme launched in 2017 to empower young people in vulnerable situations. Supported by Abbott and UPS, we combine football training with education to instil the seven values of the RMF methodology: respect, team spirit, selfesteem, health, autonomy, motivation, and equality.

The programme offered 10 Y7 students the opportunity to attend Copa Alma, an international 3-day tournament experience held at Real Madrid’s training ground.

HOLIDAY ACTIVITIES & FOOD (HAF) PROGRAMMES

Kinetic works with local authorities to provide football activities and meals to students who are eligible for free school meals throughout the school holidays.

We engage young people across London and nearby counties through football, delivering holiday support with physical activities, nutritious meals, and education on health and wellbeing.

KINETIC ACADEMY

The Kinetic Academy serves young people aged 16-19, primarily from low-income households, residing in areas of multiple deprivation and/or underrepresented ethnic backgrounds.

Our model blends post-16 education in partner schools across London, where pupils can choose personalised academic pathways (academic or vocational), with high quality football coaching. Sessions are delivered by UEFA and FA qualified coaches who also act as SLOs (School Liaison Officers), providing key day-to-day in-school pastoral support.

We deliver up to four training sessions and at least one fixture every week to ensure our pupils get sufficient time on the pitch to hone their skills.

We dominated on the pitch in London, with two Kinetic teams facing off in the Bromley Schools Cup Final. The Kinetic culture, intensity and style of play was clear to see; with our young athletes showcasing a season of hard work coming to an end with Kinetic Orpington coming out victorious.

KINETIC FUTURES

As part of our two-year Kinetic Academy, we deliver regular, extra-curricular workshops and activities under the Kinetic Futures umbrella. Offered to all Kinetic students, they were themed around entrepreneurship, employability skills, mentorship and life skills.

These personal development activities build wider social and emotional skills and all aim to improve aspirations, confidence, perseverance and wellbeing. This curriculum has been shaped by our young people and gives them what they need to move onto their next step and prevent them having NEET status upon graduating from the programme.

We are driven by the feedback and progress of the young people on the programme. We are extremely proud of their continued growth and development, and believe they are best place to speak to what we do, and why it matters.

The following is one such testimonial from Ceren, a 2025 graduate of the Kinetic Academy Girls Programme. Ceren is an inspiration to her peers and the younger participants whom she still plays with for our U19s Kinetic Girls team.

CEREN’S KINETIC STORY

My name is Ceren Temur and I graduated from the programme in 2025.

Before the programme, I was studying at Harris Academy South Norwood and playing football but not at the league I wanted.

I learned about the programme from my school’s Kinetic coach, Cairo Burton, who, along with my teachers, encouraged me to take part.

I joined the programme for a number of reasons. Firstly to develop myself as a footballer through Kinetic’s advanced training sessions.

Secondly, I wanted to improve my fitness and technical ability, which Kinetic has helped massively. Lastly I joined the programme with the intention of connecting with others.

My most valuable experience on the Kinetic programme was when we represented adidas and met Son Heung-min. It was an amazing opportunity and very exciting.

Another core memory was attending an Arsenal game and watching the game from the box.

Kinetic has taught me that football is more than the number of players on a pitch. It’s culture and teamwork.

Both during and before Kinetic, I had the aspirations of becoming a professional footballer, but my time at Kinetic impacted my future aspirations and gave me many pathways to consider.

It inspired me to continue pursuing a professional career in football whilst focusing on my studies and alternative careers; the programme encouraged me to keep my options open. I am now in my first year at university, studying physiotherapy at City St Georges.

In terms of what my goals are for the next 5 years, I would like to have graduated from university, continue to play football in a higher league and be working in an football environment.

Scoring these goals will always mean a lot to me, as I struggled with my confidence throughout that year, and the team in general had a rocky season. I often replay scoring the winning goal in my head. There were two minutes left and I had struck the ball which had hit crossbar.

I have thought about various avenues: coaching, being a physiotherapist for football club, or presenting myself as a social figure who aims to help other athletes.

Luckily, I won the ball back and decided to travel with it up the pitch and shoot. Seeing the ball hit the net brought immense joy to me, my teammates, and my coaches. From there, all I remember was everyone jumping on me and celebrating.

My fondest memory from my time at Kinetic was the goal I scored against Fulham. I scored with a beautiful freekick and the ball travelled to the top left corner. This goal meant a lot to me as I had returned back from a minor ankle injury and this goal boosted my confidence.

I would recommend Kinetic to any young person, as it cares about your progress in football and education. I became more confident as a result of my time at Kinetic.

2024/25 HIGHLIGHTS

The 2024/25 season was not only busy in school and on the pitch. We also ran an intensive calendar of events, visits, tournaments, trips and other opportunities designed to broaden the horizons of Kinetic’s young people.

From partnering with global brands like TikTok, social powerhouse Rising Ballers, to activating our partnerships with adidas and the Real Madrid Foundation, and inviting guest speakers, we maximised the visibility of what the programme is all about: shaping futures on and off the pitch.

The Women’s EUROs gave us a platform to truly celebrate the Kinetic Girls, with a plethora of activities specifically for them, too.

02 GUEST SPEAKERS AND VISITS

As part of the Kinetic Futures programme, we organised a series of guest speaker events, visits to corporate offices and universities to provide our young people with the aim of showcasing future career pathways across a variety of industries. Highlights from those experiences included a guest speaking visit from Jude Ajibewa, founder of sports consultancy Thirty&Nine. This was a

fantastic opportunity for them to hear from someone they could relate to, and aspire to follow in transitioning from on pitch success, through adversity, to off pitch success.

We also facilitated visits to the KCL campus and corporate offices, such as the trading floor at Citi bank and workshops and mock interviews at Howden Insurance.

03 TRIPS AND TOURS

04 TOURNAMENTS

In June, we partnered with adidas to host over 80 girls for an U18s tournament at Fulham FC’s home ground, Craven Cottage, ahead of the UEFA Women's Euro 2025. The day was an incredible celebration of women’s football, with future talent showcasing their skills on the pitch. Kinetic Girls made it to the final on a day which provided a once-in-alifetime pitch opportunity for making unforgettable memories.

Every July, Kinetic brings together girls school teams from all over London for a festival of football, offering over 150 Y7 - Y11 girls the opportunity to face each other in a schools tournament. This year, we worked with partners to offer unforgettable experiences and prizes, including FSCR physio, adidas F50 Sparkfusion boot trials, books from the Well HQ, She Plays Football subscriptions and more.

05 IN THE PRESS

Following the Lionesses incredible win at the Women’s EUROs, we invited BBC London down to our girls training session to capture their reactions and put a spotlight on Kinetic’s activity in the women’s football space.

Cairo was then also interviewed live on BBC Radio London, where he shared his thoughts on the girl’s game and what we’re doing to push it forward.

Earlier in the year, our young people were also part of the “You Got This” adidas campaign, which offered 41 of them the opportunity to meet Son Heung-min. The athlete surprised them in training, offering advice from the sidelines and spending the day with the beneficiaries. The campaign resulted in numerous pieces of coverage, including titles such as COPA90, VERSUS and Soccerbible.

GET INVOLVED

Fundraising and brand partnerships are crucial in our attempts to continue to impact the lives of young people.

Funding specific programmes, offering networking and work experience opportunities and mentorship is invaluable in giving our students the best possible routes into education, employment and training.

FOOTBALL TOURNAMENTS

This year saw over 30 different organisations attend football tournaments engaging with our young people.

These evenings provide our pupils with a unique opportunity to network with a range of people from different industries and build their social capital by placing a Kinetic athlete on each corporate team.

This support provides a landscape for them to network in an environment they are comfortable.

CORPORATE PARTNERSHIPS

We have worked with multiple businesses and have a proven track record of fulfilling their CSR and employee engagement objectives with activities designed to fulfil company expectations.

With a number of packages to suit different budgets, and a tailor made approach, we work with our corporate partners to ensure their donations have a clear purpose and measurable impact.

2024 saw our first consumer brand partnership in the launch of our strategic relationship with adidas, which is continuing into 2025.

We are now looking for more brands who want to support our mission to empower the next generation of talent on and off the pitch, continue to break down barriers and create unforgettable and unique opportunities for young people through the power of their passions - for football and beyond.

VOLUNTEERING

We have many volunteers that provide probono activity in varying fields, and we are continuously grateful for their support.

As part of the Kinetic Futures programme, we require mentors each year to help guide our young people through the final terms of their education.

This is an effective way of supporting us and it is an effective way to give back without significant cost.

INDIVIDUAL GIVING

At the Kinetic Foundation we believe that every young person deserves equal opportunities. We exist to advance the employment potential of each young person who accesses our programmes, all through their passion for football. Individual giving is a key pillar which enables us to do so.

We also offer places to events such as the London Marathon for those wishing to fundraise for Kinetic.

GOVERNING DOCUMENT

The organisation is a charitable company limited by guarantee, incorporated on 12 October 2012 and registered as a charity on 21 March 2013. The company was established under a memorandum of association and articles of association which set out the objects and powers of the charitable company and govern its operations. In the event of the company being wound up the members are each required to contribute an amount not exceeding £10.

ORGANISATIONAL STRUCTURE

As of 31 August 2025, Kinetic Foundation had a board of trustees of 6 members from a variety of professional backgrounds relevant to the work of the charity, who meet at least quarterly and are responsible for the strategic direction and governance of the charity.

The day-to-day management of the Foundation including provision of the programmes and other initiatives is delegated to the Chief Executive Officer and the Heads of departments. They have responsibility for the overall operational management of the programmes including supervision of the young people and ensuring that the instructional and support team involved continue to develop their skills and working practices in line with good practice.

BOARD OF TRUSTEES

The directors of the company are also charity trustees for the purposes of charity law. Under the requirements of the articles of association, at each annual general meeting one-third of the board of trustees (such number to be made up of the longest serving members) must be put forward for re-election.

All members of the Board of Trustees give their time voluntarily and receive no benefits from the charity.

At the annual general meeting held on 23 June 2025, Robert Moore and Hannah Charlton offered themselves for re-election and were duly re-elected. Clare Cullen was also elected.

As the charity’s focus is on young people and the provision of the bespoke sportsrelated programme, the Board of Trustees seeks to ensure that the requirements of this group and the programme are accurately reflected through the diversity of the trustee board. This is continually reviewed by the Board of Trustees – and all trustees have committed to ensuring the board is comprised of a balanced set of skills that add value to the charity, its partners and its beneficiaries.

The trustees have a good working knowledge of the Foundation’s aims and objectives and the initiatives in place to meet them. The board members bring vastly different experiences, qualifications and knowledge from traditional business; legal skills; experience in sports and working with underprivileged young people.

Funding for the Charity comes mainly from partner school service delivery fees, grants, corporate partnerships and events.

During the year we raised funds of £982,670, an increase on the previous year. The largest contribution was £430,840 of Harris staff recharges made to support our full time Academy programme. The other major contribution was £335,848 of community and core grants for the delivery of extra-curricular programmes and holiday projects. Of the money raised, £910,084 was spent leaving a surplus, maintaining a stable level of reserves. With an increased number of hours delivered, young people in our programmes and further financial support by donors for our projects, our largest expenditure was £695,356 in relation to staff costs, consultants and sub-contractors. We have a balance of £142,237 available at the end of the financial year which we intend to use to support our ongoing and new initiatives moving forward in-line with our financial reserves policy.

We also spent on growth projects such as girls’ football, marketing and fundraising to help improve and diversify our income streams.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES

The trustees (who are also directors of Kinetic Foundation for the purposes of company law), as set out on page 2, are responsible for preparing the Trustees' Report (incorporating the directors’ report) and the financial statements in accordance with applicable law and United Kingdom Accounting Standards, including Financial Reporting Standard 102: The Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (United Kingdom Generally Accepted Accounting Practice).

Company law requires the trustees to prepare financial statements for each financial year which give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the charitable company and of the income and expenditure, of the charitable company for that period. In preparing these financial statements, the trustees are required to:

The trustees are responsible for maintaining proper accounting records which disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the financial position of the charitable company and enable them to ensure that the financial statements comply with the Companies Act 2006. They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the charitable company and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities.

This report is prepared in accordance with the provisions applicable to companies subject to the small companies regime within Part 15 of the Companies Act 2006.

I report to the charity trustees on my examination of the accounts of the Company for the year ended 31 August 2025 set out on pages 38 to 47.

Responsibilities and basis of report

As the charity’s trustees (and also its directors for the purposes of company law) you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Companies Act 2006 (‘the 2006 Act’).

Having satisfied myself that the accounts of the Company are not required to be audited under Part 16 of the 2006 Act and are eligible for independent examination, I report in respect of my examination of your charity’s accounts as carried out under section 145 of the Charites Act 2011 (‘the 2011 Act’). In carrying out my examination I have followed the directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the 2011 Act.

1. ACCOUNTING POLICIES

The principal accounting policies adopted, judgements and key sources of estimation uncertainty in the preparation of the financial statements are as follows:

BASIS OF PREPARATION

The financial statements have been prepared under the Companies Act 2006 and in accordance with Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2019) and Financial Reporting Standard 102 (FRS 102). The financial statements are drawn up on the historical cost basis of accounting, and are prepared in sterling, which is the financial currency of the charity, rounded to the nearest £.

Kinetic Foundation is a private company limited by guarantee incorporated in England and Wales. The registered office is 5 Robin Hood Lane, Sutton, Surrey, SM1 2SW. The charity meets the definition of a public benefit entity under FRS 102.

The trustees consider that there are no material uncertainties about the charity’s ability to continue as a going concern.

TANGIBLE FIXED ASSETS

Tangible fixed assets costing more than £100 are capitalised and included at cost including any incidental expenses of acquisition.

DEPRECIATION

Depreciation is provided on all tangible fixed assets at rates calculated to write off the cost less estimated residual value of each asset over its expected useful life of four years on a straight line basis.

DEBTORS

Grants receivable and other debtors are included at the settlement amount due. Prepayments are valued at the amount prepaid.

CASH AT BANK AND IN HAND

Cash at bank and in hand includes cash and short term highly liquid investments with a short maturity of three months or less from the date of opening of the deposit.

CREDITORS AND PROVISIONS

Creditors and provisions are recognised where the charity has a present obligation arising from a past event that will probably result in the transfer of funds to a third party and the amount due to settle the obligation can be measured or estimated reliably. Creditors and provisions are recognised at their settlement amount.

FINANCIAL INSTRUMENTS

The charity only has financial assets and liabilities of a kind that qualify as basic financial instruments. Basic financial instruments are initially recognised at transaction value and subsequently measured at their settlement value.

RESTRICTED FUNDS

These are restricted income funds given to the charity for specific purposes. They are expendable by the trustees in furtherance of particular projects within the charity objects.

UNRESTRICTED FUNDS

These are funds expendable at the discretion of the trustees in furtherance of the objects of the charity.

INCOME RECOGNITION

Donations and other incoming resources (including legacies) are included in the Statement of Financial Activities (SOFA) when the charity has entitlement to the income, it is probable the income will be received and the amount of income receivable can be reliably measured. Grant income is accounted for on an accruals basis and matched to the appropriate period. No amounts are included in the financial statements for services donated by volunteers.

EXPENDITURE RECOGNITION

All expenditure is accrued as soon as a liability is considered probable, discounted to present value for longer term liabilities and has been classified under headings that aggregate all costs related to the category.

Kinetic Foundation paid staff costs under joint contracts of employment of £30,649 (2024: £20,152) to Kinetic Coaching in Sport Ltd during the year, a company jointly owned by the key management personnel Mr J Fotheringham and Mr H Hudson. Kinetic Foundation also recharged £391,158 (2024: £325,857) of staff costs under joint contracts of employment to Kinetic Coaching in Sport Ltd during the year. At the year end the charity owed £nil (2024: £nil) to Kinetic Coaching in Sport Ltd. Kinetic Foundation also charged £32,000 (2024: £nil) to FCIA Ltd, a company majority owned by Mr J Fotheringham and Mr H Hudson, which was outstanding at the year end.
