## **Summary of the objects of the charity set out in its governing document**
The object of the CIO is the advancement of education for Jewish children with special needs but not exclusively, by the provision of funding or other assistance to facilitate such education
## **The charity’s organisational structure and any wider network with which the charity works.**
JSENSE works closely with the Delamere Trust and liaises regularly with other organisations working in the Greater Manchester Area with children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities and their families and carers .
There is a partnership agreement with Delamere Trusts and Langdon College where they give support to JSENSE in developing its aims and plans
## **Trustees’ consideration of major risks and the system and procedure to manage them**
The trustees have examined the major strategic, business and operational risks which the charity faces and confirm that systems have been established to enable regular reports to be produced so that necessary steps can be taken to reduce these risks.
## **Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects**
This year has been one of growth and development .
The merger with the parent representative group JADDS in April 2019 has broadened the focus of JSENSE. We are continuing our objective of advancing the education of children with special needs and are actively working directly with Parents and Carers (P&C) of Children and Young People with SEND (CYSEND) age 0- 25years. We are continuing to expand our services and networks in addition to our work with schools, education and training.
The JSENSE Helpline launched in November 2019 offering advice, guidance and signposting to support parents in achieving the best educational outcomes for their children was in considerable demand throughout 2020 and 2021.
- Demand for all our Helpline services continue to grow.
- JSENSE launched face to face parent support groups for parents and carers of children and young people with SEND, in addition to our online groups e.g. for siblings
- The website has been updated and our Directory of Services for children and young people with SEND is being updated. This directory is the output of last year’s mapping project and tailored to the needs of the Greater Manchester Jewish community http:// jsense.org.uk/directory-of-services.
- JSENSE continued to offer consultancy to schools to support SENDCOs during lockdown and also during the transition period. Topics covered include quality practices and systems to improve SEN outcomes for the children and young people and to assist with OFSTED requirements.
- JSENSE is continuing its support to schools, including the introduction of diagnostic tools for SENDCO’s designed to pinpoint specific learning and behavioural difficulties, which without diagnosis, may limit a child’s potential to learn.

In setting our objectives and planning our activities, the trustees have given careful consideration to the Charity Commission's general guidance on public benefit.
## **Additional details of objectives and activities (Optional information)**
JSENSE is a Salford based charity serving the Greater Manchester and Cheshire area. We believe every child or young person with special educational needs {SEN), from every part of the Jewish community, deserves the best possible opportunity to transform their lives through quality support for their needs. This can help maximise their individual educational achievements, their acquisition of the necessary skills to assist independent living and prevent development of long-term behavioural problems resulting in optimum outcomes for the child, young person and their families.
JSENSE has expanded its workforce capacity to include a Project Coordinator and an Operations Manager, in addition to our sessional education consultant.
Since March 2020 JSENSE has again been successful with bids to grant making organisations including the National Lottery
JSENSE continues to actively seek funding from grant making organisations to support its activity.
## **PERFORMANCE**
## **Main achievements**
Time has continued to be contributed by some Trustees in developing and delivering JSENSE activities The Project Coordinator particularly focussed on measuring outputs and outcomes to underpin future funding bids in addition to her day-to-day management, development, and networking work.
Good constructive relationships continue with other service providers, NHS and Local Authorities, supported by our former Co-Chair who continues as a Trustee, who has good links with these public bodies.
Consultancy services have continued. The work has been very well received as this quote from a subsequent OFSTED report illustrates: - "Pupils who have special educational needs and/or disabilities make good progress. This is because of the high-quality support they receive for their provision".
The support provided to parents/carers have produced positive feedback and demand continues for new courses, support groups and as well as social events.
In order to ensure we continue to offer high standards and up-to-date practices in our training and consultancy work. We contract with qualified consultants who are recognised in their field and are sensitive to needs of the religious requirements of the Client group. All new staff have been offered induction and training relevant to their roles and responsibilities.
Demand for the JSENSE Helpline has continued to increase since its launch. In addition the helpline empowers parents to support the educational and service needs of their children and informs JSENSE of areas of need in relation services for child and young people with SEND

## **FINANCIAL REVIEW**
## **Charity’s policy on reserves**
The trustees have considered the level of unrestricted reserves that it would be appropriate for the charity to maintain. The trustees have made an initial assessment and have concluded that in view of the Charity`s dependence on grants, reserves should be built up equivalent to six months running costs of the charity of approximately £20,000.
At the year ended 31[st] August 2021 the Charity’s bank funds amounted to £52,817 out of which £13,788 was restricted and £39,028 was unrestricted.
The reserve policy and level of reserves required is reviewed on a regular basis by the trustees during their meetings.
## **Further financial review details**
Principal source of funds are grants from Delamere trust, Forever Manchester, Jewish Child`s Day and some small donors.
The trustees` declare that they have approved the trustees report above.

I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of the above charity (“the Trust”) for the year ended 31 August 2021.
## **Responsibilities and basis of the report**
As the charity's trustees, you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (“the Act”).
I report in respect of my examination of the Trust’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination, I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.
## **Independent examiner's statement**
I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination which gives me cause to believe that in, any material respect:
• the accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 130 of the Charities Act; or
- the accounts did not accord with the accounting records
I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
