| Summary of the objects of the charity set out in its governing document Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects (include within this section the statutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit) |
The CIO’s objects as set out in its constitution are: “To advance the education of the public in the spiritual and philosophical traditions underlying western civilisation as embodied especially in the teaching of the key pre-Socratic Greek philosophers and spiritual teachers Pythagoras, Parmenides and Empedocles”. |
|---|---|
| Throughout 2025 our aim has been to further our primary objective of promoting the teachings of the pre-Socratics by introducing them to a far broader and more diverse audience than has hitherto been possible. In all our activities, the trustees have had constant regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit. Following the publication of Peter Kingsley’s ground-breaking two-volume work ‘Catafalque’, and the highly acclaimed ‘A Book of Life’, the preservation of Dr Kingsley’s legacy has been one of our highest priorities. To this end, a team continues intensive work on transcribing past lectures and workshops with a view to creating an extra series of books and booklets for distribution both to college students and to members of the wider public. Additionally, the charity is working on the accurate archiving and editing of an extensive library of audio and video material focusing on the legacy of the pre-Socratic philosophers. |

Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year
Talks, meetings and online activities have helped us make substantial progress in bringing the legacy of the ancient pre-Socratic philosophers to a wider audience than ever. Transcribing and editing work has also moved forward and is allowing us to anticipate the publication of new books, and recordings, in future.
