Trustee selection methods (eg. appointed by, elected by)

Apart from the first charity trustees, every trustee must be appointed by a resolution passed at a properly convened meeting of the charity trustees. In selecting individuals for appointment as charity trustees, the charity trustees must have regard to the skills, knowledge and experience needed for the effective administration of The St. Timothy Foundation.

## **Additional governance issues (Optional information)**

You **may choose** to include additional information, where relevant, about:

- policies and procedures adopted for the induction and training of trustees;

- the charity’s organisational structure and any wider network with which the charity works;

- relationship with any related parties;

- trustees’ consideration of major risks and the system and procedures to manage them.

The charity is managed according to its constitution by means of regular trustees meetings to which other interested parties are invited for their specific knowledge and skills. A copy of the constitution is available from the Secretary on request.

## **Section C Objectives and activities**

## **Summary of the objects of the charity set out in its governing document**

To advance the education of the pupils at St. Timothy's School, Nzara, Republic of South Sudan, and other schools in the Republic of South Sudan by providing and assisting in the provision of facilities, whatever the pupils background, status or finances.

For the public benefit to promote the education (including social and physical training) of people in the Republic of South Sudan whatever their background, status or finances, in such ways as the charity trustees think fit.

To develop the capacity and skills of the members of the socially and economically disadvantaged community of the Republic of South Sudan in such a way that they are better able to identify, and help meet, their needs and to participate more fully in society. The prevention or relief of poverty or financial hardship in the Republic of South Sudan by providing or assisting in the provision of education, training, healthcare projects and all the necessary support designed to enable individuals to generate a sustainable income and be self-sufficient.

To advance in life and help young people in the Republic of South Sudan through providing support, activities and educational opportunities which develop their skills, capacities and capabilities to enable them to participate in society as independent, mature and responsible individuals.

## **Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects (include within this section the statutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit)**

Fund raising to support the education of the children at St Timothy’s School, Nzara and to support local community initiated projects in the Diocese of Nzara in the Republic of South Sudan.

March **2012**

**TAR**

6

The monitoring of progress and outcomes of agreed local projects including for signs of unforeseen possible detriment or harm. Every trustee signs the Declaration below.

## **Additional details of objectives and activities (Optional information)**

You **may choose** to include further statements, where relevant, about:

- policy on grantmaking;

- policy programme related investment;

- contribution made by  volunteers.

The trustees will only make grants in response to written applications with a fully costed budget. We ask further questions for clarification if the written application is not clear and detailed enough. There is no set form for application.

The trustees assess each application against the objects in the constitution to judge whether it qualifies and is wholly for charitable purposes.

A ceiling is set by the funds that are available, bearing in mind the need for the trustees to retain sufficient funds for ongoing commitments.
