Foreword
by Chair Roger Elliott
Lifeline
l Harroaate
l am dellghted to have recently been voted In as the new Chair of Lifellne, havlng
worked with Carl and the marveLlously dedicated Lifeline team for a number of
years, becoming a trustee in 2023. After leaving the Co-operative Group as Group
Regulatory Risk Manager, I started my own Rlsk Management bvslness In 2017 and at
the same time qualified as a Mental Health First Aid (England) instructor / tralner
and became Chair of Wellsprin9 Therapy and Training based in Starbeck.
Promotlng mental health weLlbelng Is
an absolute passlon for me and aLlgns
with a core part of what Lifellne seeks
to deliver for its resldents. Lifeline was
one of my flrst professional clients In
2017 and over the years I have been
pleased to wltness how Carl. Georgle
and the
team
have
grown
the
organisation to its current position.
As some wlll know, 2023 was the 10th
annlversary of LlfeLlne. a magnlflcent
achievement, which was wonderfully
celebrated last svmmer at Chrlst
Church. However there have been
other notable accomplishments in the
year, Includlng the opening of a further
resldence enabling three more resldent
to recelve Lifeline's caring support,
sadly so necessary In the Harrogate
area.
Also, we are grateful to all those who support us flnancially which has allowed us to
continue to grow and better provlde for those in our care. As thls report illustrates, we
have been fortunate In securing our financial target in 2023, no mean feat In the
cvrrent economic condltlons. We pray that thls course wlll endure In 2024. Meanwhlle,
we look forward to contlnuing to support our vulnerable and deservlng resldents to
allow them to re-establish thelr Ilves to a level that the rest of us enjoy.

CEO'S Report &
Highlights of 2023
The year of 2023 was a year of celebratlon for Llfellne as we were able to
mark 10 years of provldlng supported houslng to the homeless In the
Harrogate dlstrlct. So, on a lovely sunny evenlng In June at Chrlstchurch we
were dellghted to be able to welcome over 100 people comprlslng
re51dents past and present, trustees. volunteers, donors, contractors,
representatlves from referral agencles, funders, and Important contacts.
They Jolned wlth us to enjoy what has been achleved, by our belng falthful to
the vlslon the Lord gave us way back In 2012. Many Ilves have been changed
for the better and we are so thankful that Georgle and I were called Into thls
mlnlstry. It has always been fulfllllng and whllst challenges present themselves
contlnuallys we have always belleved thls to be a calllng to those people who
are In desperate need. The Blble exhorts us to "to share your food wlth the
hungry and to provlde the poor wanderer wlth shelter
when you See the
naked, to clothe them, and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood?"
It Is an awesome prlvllege to be able to step In to and be that answer to
someone's problems.

We were able to house more people In 2023 (37) and provlde more nlghts of
accommodatlon (6,231) than ever before. Our Latest stats slnce our Inception are;

77% of resldents engage In meanlngful actlvltles
(eg education, tralnlng, voLunteerlng. support groups. employment)
40,000+ nlghts of accommodatlon provlded
We Llke to thlnk of LlfeLine as a family to our residents, SQ it always provides a great
encouragement to me when we flnd many former resldents stlll In touch with us
after they leave. One former resident said this to us after he left, which we read out
at the 10th annlversary celebration;
I would Ilke to say l am gutted I can't be here tonight to
celebrate what Is a mas51ve achievement for Lifellne Harrogate and
especlaLly everyone Involved who not only svpported me In my time wlth
them...Carl, Georgle, Brlan and Andy...they not only re5cved me from the
Lowest polnt of my Ilfe bvt was massive In gettlng me to where l am today...
over one year clean/sober, heaLthy...got my Ilfe back and a man of GODIIII I

Over the last 12 years we have realised that
homelessness Is about so much more than Just
accommodation and that a roof over our resldent's
head In a nice warm homely Llfellne house 55 great but
that Is only the start of the Journey. As tlme has gone
on, we have added more and more layers of support.
and these are now some of the things we are able to
provlde..
a) a monthly weLlbeSng outlng to a place of Interest
Llke the seaslde, hortlcultvral gardens, Natlonal Trust
sltes, go-kartlng et¢
b) a weekly one hour 'Peer Support Group. wlth Jade
former resldent we employed who provldes resldents
wlth an opportunlty to share how they are gettlng on
In a safe envlronment, each meetlng always havlng a
dlfferent theme
c) always havlng an educatlonal class to attend.
Worklng wlth local educatlon groups and another
houslng provlder, Horton Houslng• we can provlde
opportunltles to learn and recelve certlflcates and
enhance Cv's as well as meet new people and galn
confldence
d) gym and swlm pass at the Hydro for fltness and to
encourage healthy Ilfestyle reglmes
e) provldlng pald access to local spe¢lallst counselllng

flnd it Impossible to access local dentlst treatment
g) a bespoke meanlngful actlvlty weekly schedule for
each resident encompassing volunteering, education,
tralnlng, employment. support groups. and our
actiyltles above. On average our resldents are

h) ongolng support for leavers
"you were there for me
when I left Lifeline" one resident said to Us
l) each house gets a fortnlghtly fruSt and veg dellvery as
well as thelr freezers packed wlth oven cooked nutritious
and delicious meals from the local food outlet Cook
(thank you Cook!)
J) drug testing to ald accountabillty wlth resFdents which
they appreciate
k) door-bell Cameras front and back to monltor comlngs
and golngs have massively reduced any Issues and made
ovr residents feel safer.
Life is not easy for any of us but adding In the many things
that our residents rnust struggle with In addltlon to the
normal ups and downs of Ilfe, mean that they have
challenges that many of us would also find very dlfflcult
to overcome. What we find Is that our residents feel that
they have Lifellne staff and volunteers completely In their
corner, and that there 5s therefore hope, this Is enough
for them to start to make posltlve changes in their life.
We belleve these forms of support give them hope that
thlngs can change for them.
We are thankfvl to all our supporters. whether that be referral agencies, grant
funders. donors, volunteers, or contractors. Ultimately thovgh, none of this would
be posslble, or deslrabLe to be involved In. Sf It wasn't at the Lord Jesus'5 directlon
and we are so thankful for all He does, and for the many changes, too numerous to
mentlon as we see HIM being involved In our resldent's lives.
