3. Structure of The Stanley Gene Foundation

The Stanley Gene Foundation is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation and is governed by a written constitution.

The trustees of the charity are all volunteers and give their time freely in order to further the aims of the organisation. Apart from the first trustees, trustees are appointed by a resolution passed at a properly convened meeting of the current trustees and are selected for appointment based on their skills, knowledge and experience needed for the effective administration of the CIO.

4. Objects & activities

The objects of the Stanley Gene Foundation (as written in its constitution) are:

1. To advance education, relieve poverty, sickness and promote and protect good health in Papua New Guinea by either generally or individually through the provision of grants, goods or services.

2. To promote for the benefit of the inhabitants of Papua New Guinea the provision of facilities for recreation or other leisure time occupation of individuals who have need of such facilities by reason of their youth, age, infirmity or disablement, financial hardship or social and economic circumstances or for the public at large in the interests of social welfare and with the object of improving the condition of life of the said inhabitants.

The Stanley Gene Foundation is committed to reaching the unreachable communities of Papua New Guinea and educating young Papua New Guineans, in order to give them the tools to make a better future for themselves. We believe all young Papua New Guineans should be given the basic skills and confidence to be able to take advantage of their country’s many natural resources, and the jobs which they bring.

Also, the issues of alcohol and drug abuse, domestic violence, and HIV-Aids are rife throughout the country. We believe that the Papua New Guinean’s love of Rugby League can be used to raise awareness and address these issues amongst the many diverse and remote communities of Papua New Guinea.

STANLEY

In the long term, we hope to contribute to making the future generations of Papua New Guineans better educated and better placed to make a difference in their communities, and their country as a whole

The long term aim of the Foundation remains to secure land and build a sporting academy. We hope that by engaging young people in sport we are able to break the cycle of drug and alcohol abuse and lack of employment opportunities.

The Foundation places no unreasonable restrictions on who can benefit from its activities. The Foundation does charge fees to any beneficiary of its activities. Mr Gene’s direct activities in Papua New Guinea and the activities of local individuals ensure that this principle is monitored and correctly applied.

The trustees of The Stanley Gene Foundation have acted with regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit.
