I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of the above charity (“the Trust”) for the year ended **DD / MM / YYYY** . 

- **Responsibilities and** As the charity trustees of the Trust, you are responsible for the preparation **basis of report** of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (“the Act”). 

I report in respect of my examination of the Trust’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination, I have followed the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act. 

**Independent** I have completed my examination.  I confirm that no material matters have **examiner's statement** come to my attention (other than that disclosed below *) in connection with the examination which gives me cause to believe that in, any material respect: 

- accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 130 of the Act or

Through the year and especially during planning meetings the trustees have taken into account the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit (ref. Charities and public benefit – January 2008, as amended December 2011). 

## **Projects in 2024-25** 

1. **Play Banks-** continued a two year project to deliver Play events alongside Food banks to decrease the feeling of dependency and increase the positive nourishment from play and learning for young people and families who are struggling economically. 

2. **Hackney** - UBG delivered events across estates with the resident participation team team to build community support structures, initiate gardening schemes and give young people opportunities to get involved in improving their estates. 

**Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects (include within this section the statutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit)** 

3. **Hackney Playbus –** third year of partnering with Hackney Playbus summer programme across estates and parks in Hackney. Huge success each event attracting and engaging 50 families who are all telling similar stories, need for more in person activities for children and young people outside of school, help with accessing services and more opportunities for intergenerational inter-cultural play, just relaxed fun social interaction helps solve many ‘problems’ before they get overwhelming. This year UBG continued to support Playbus at Clapton Commons on Jewish holidays to provide engaging activities for thr older siblings, very positive feedback UBG will continue to support. 

4. **Homerton TLSS games on the wards-** collaborative weekly events with Homerton Occupational Therapists mental health team to provide engaging challenging social games sessionson the wards. Supported by local NHS. 

5. **Creating a Culture of Play-** funded by South Hackney parochial Charity UBG are working with St John of Jerusalem Primary school to develop the skills of all the children, parents and staff so that they can incorporate game playing into the school life, using a range of game from the world to connect with the diverse cultures of the children and families who attend the school. Game playing is also helping with the high ratio of SEN students offering alternative ways to learn and grow skills.In 2025 UBG also ran a weekely afterschool games club with pupils from across the school offering a safe place to learn and play together and develop game playing and life skills. 

**6. Own Your crown coproduction game design-** UBG ran design workshops in youth clubs, therapy units and schools across hackney to research and design a game to enable young people express their cultural identity and concerns about how they wear their hair. The game design was funded by Hackney and the game was played in youth clubs and schools. The project will continue next year with workshops using the game in schools and clubs across hackney. UBg worked with Ghanain artist Jess Nash

to illustrate the game. 

**7. Dolphins Everywhere-** A project with a UEL alumni student to codesign an interactive social game to enable frank discussions around wellbeing and work life balance. The design was tested by young volunteers across hackney who are just beginng the life of work and are juggling to keep their health and make enough money. 

**8. Hackney Libraries** -UBG once again delivered a series of successful summer workshops in Libraries for families to play and learn together reigniting our connections with local communities that were severed with the first Covid lockdown. Excellent feedback from all sessions and UBG hope to continue next year.

## **Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year** 

Gratefully received donations from the public. 

Thanks to the Charities Aid Foundation, Hackney, The National Lottery, South Hackney parochial Charity, Hackney resident participation team, Homerton TLSS, Hackney Libraries and Hackney Playbus. 

## UBG achievements in 2024-25 

1. This year UBG have continued to build on projects piloted and successfully run in 2024, improving and developing the projects by learning from evaluation and feedback. 

2. UBG have been able to develop a strategy for future funding and donation appeals to keep building on our positive feedback from events and projects. 

3. UBG trustees continue to implement a 5 year plan for the charity to generate funding and support to build towards providing more opportunities for more communities and build our network of positive supporters. 

4. UBG are steadily building a strong database of community volunteers to get engaged and be part of our community projects delivery. 

5. UBG are building a strong network of partnership organisations to enable us to reach a wider target audience with focused projects. UBG worked hard to keep in touch with local networks during the lockdowns so we are ready to come back stronger.This hard work is now beginning to create opportunities for UBG to buils strong cultures of Play. 

6. Our world Too is a culmination of 20 years of listening and developing young person led designs. The response has been overwhelmingly positive and the game is even more needed in these times of lockdown and social division for example Black lives Matter actions. OWT continues to be an effective tool for change and critical thinking for young people and we are working with universities to use it in their teaching. 

7. Training and networking for sustainable future. UBG have made use of the break in project delivery to develop existing networks and create new links to organisation that share our vision. 

8. Partnership with Hackney Playbus are planning to come together to provide events for families from 0 to 100 and continue developing online surveys together. 

9. UBG have partnered with NHS mental health team at Homerton and plan to run joint play/information workshops in 2024. 

10. UBG have built partnerships with University of East London running trial workshops with students and staff to focus on mental wealth. And are developing a partnership with UCL Community Research Initiative to academically assess the benefits of our codesign projects.

In line with our Reserves Policy, during 2024/25 reserves are being accumulated to ensure the running costs of the organisation can be met up to one year in advance. This allows us to offer certain events on a ‘donation only’ basis which opens access to all.
