BMCF Annual Report 2022

(January to December 2022)

Objective:

The objective of the charity remains as follows:

1) To relieve those in need, by reason of their youth, age, ill-health, disability, financial hardship or other disadvantage living in the south Indian state of Kerala.

2) To relieve those in need, living in Britain and with financial hardship for medical treatment or for the repatriation of deceased to home country

3) To advance, improve, develop, and maintain health and saving lives; and

4) for the general purposes of charitable bodies in the UK or in India, or for such other purposes as shall be exclusively charitable as the trustees may from time to time decide.

Even though Covid19 pandemic and resultant lockdowns and other restrictions made it difficult to arrange public group activities, all the trustees were at the forefront to fight against the pandemic and worked admirably to provide help to the those who needed help and assistance in the unprecedented period misery.

Highlights of the activities of the charity for the year 2022

Charity has completed 10 years in changing the Lives of the poorest people in Kerala and of those who have been devasted by unexpected events like death or critical illness. It has distributed more than one Million pounds to the beneficiaries in these 10 years of its charitable activities. It has achieved a remarkable millstone in carrying out the objectives set out by its magnanimous constituents.

The activities for the year 2022 was begun by Christmas & New Year 2021 Appeal launched on 1st Dec 2021. A brief description of its main activities during the year are given below.

The fund collected through Christmas and new year 2021(December 2021 to January 2022) were distributed on 14/04/2022 at Koottickal, Kottayam Kerala India. Mr Roshy Augustine, Minister, Kerala Government for Water resources and Irrigation was the Chief guest of the ceremony. An amount of £9300.00 was distributed to 23 beneficiaries.

Biju Stephen Appeal

In March 2022, BMCF issued an appeal to help the bereaved family of Mr. Biju Stephen, who died of Covid 19, soon after arriving UK on work visa. The family were in the UK for only a few days when Mr. Biju Stephen passed away. His family was in severe financial crisis and the Charity issued the public appeal to help the family. The appeal was well accepted by the public and the charity could distribute an amount of £22700.00 to the family of Mr. Biju Stephen

Biju Peter Appeal

Mr. Biju Peter who died of critical illness shortly after arriving the UK left behind his wife and two children. They were in a financially poor condition and the unexpected death of Mr. Biju Peter has shattered the family and BMCF venture to make a public appeal to help this family. The appeal was well accepted, and the charity could distribute an amount of £5600.00 to this family

Easter/Vishu Appeal 2022

– The charity has issued the Easter Vishu appeal in April 2022 as usual. The appeal has collected as amount of £4441.00. The appeal was intended to give financial aid to the very poor people in Kerala, India. An amount of £5000.00 has been distributed to 10 beneficiaries on 16/07/2022 at a brief ceremony organised at Marunadan Malayali’s office at Thiruvananthapuram. Mr Krishnakumar, a prominent cine artist and politician and his wife Sindhu Krishnan were the chief guests at the event. Mr. Shajan Scaria, Editor, Marunadan Malayali, Mr. Shaji Thomas, Treasurer BMCF, Mr. Shaji Lukose, Ex-Chairman BMCF, Shinu Claire Mathews are among those who attended the event.

Swanthanam/Skydiving Appeal 2022

British Malayali Charity Foundation has once again conducted a charity sky dive event in October 2022. The aim of the even was to collect funds to provide financial aid to the poor

The charity was able to collect an amount of £22,035.00, including an amount of £4022.25 received as Gift aid tax refund from HMRC. The expenses incurred for the sky diving event was £2400.00. An amount of £435.00 has been set aside to general fund. The Sky diving events was a grant success, and the charity could distribute an amount £600.00 each to 32 beneficiaries, totalling to an amount of £19200.00

The fund was distributed by Mr. P Prasad, the Minister of Govt of Kerala for Agriculture in the event organised at Kallara Panchayat Hall on 24[th] December 2022. Local MLA Mr. Mons Joseph, Kallara Panchayat President Johny Thottungal, Marunadan Malayali Editor Mr. Shajan Scaria and Mr. Jagdeesh Nair, BMCF trustee were among those attended the event.

Nimya Appeal

I t was a tragic news to the whole community when Nimya Mathew fell ill and died while working at East Sussex, Bexhill on Sea hospital on 27[th] November 2022. She joined her new job as staff nurse only nine months ago and left behind her husband 3 years old son. The 34 years old

Nimya was suffering from critical illness and her health condition deteriorated rapidly leading to the sudden death.

The family was financially struggling and approached the charity for financial assistance. Charity has issued an appeal to public to help support this family.

The appeal was accepted whole heartly by the public and a total fund of £ 29,223.86 had been raised. The charity was able to distribute an amount of £29225.00 to the family of Nimya Mathew. These funds were distributed in the year 2023.

Annual General Meeting

The annual general meeting of the trustees and members of the charity is held online through zoom meeting on 17/12/2022, marking the 10[th] anniversary of the charity. As the charity's trustees, you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (“the Act”).
