THE PAROCHIAL CHURCH COUNCIL OF THE ECCLESIASTICAL PARISH OF FENISCOWLES IMMANUEL REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 DECEMBER 2024 OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES {continuedl Achievements and performance Vicars Re ort This report is written as we are already well into 2025 but relates to the year 2024. on again. we are beginning to see the newal and power of nature and al Easter we will celebrate the renewal and power of God as we celebrate, On again. the love that he has shown towards us through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. 2024 gave us much to be thankful for as a church family, and Ihis is highlighted in the rest of this report. A new chapter began in the life of our church wtth the appointFTient of a new vicar and the creation of ourjoinl benefice with Sl. Franc15 Feniscliffe. Alon9side this we started on the Diocesan Renewal Programme in autumn last year- a scheme run by Blackburn Diocese which supports parishes lo prayerfully think through and implement strategies for growth. This began with the Vicar and some members of both PCCS attending a training conference enlrtled Leading Your Church Into Growth. The conference outlined several principles for growih which over the coming year our PCCS will be working through, and we have already been excited at joining in with all that God wants lo do to grow our churches. We do this not for the sake of it. bul because we believe we have something incredible to share with our C(MUnItieS - the news of God's love for them as revealed in Jesus Christ. There will inevitably be challenges as we seek to be a growing church. not least by maintaining our beautiful buildings and limited financial resour$. But we rety on God's provision and seek to do his will as we participate in the building of his church here. We took a slep to improve our financial situation by having a semion series on stewardship and giving in the autumn. This gave people the opportunty to think biblically about their giving lo church and lo review their gifts. and was accompanied by a leaflet on joyful and generous stewardship. We have also signed up to the Parish Giving Scheme, a centrally administered scheme through which people can set up regular giving by direct debi( or make one-off donations. Grft Aid is collected automatically, reducing the administrative burden on our treasurer. We hope that, with further leaching and opportunities, more people will feel led to contribLrte to the lrfe and work of our church. There were 104 names on our electoral roll. a reduction from 145 in 2023. Those on our electoral roll are able to vole al our annual meeting and are able to sland for PCC. but membership of our church is not limf(ed lo those on the roll.. many more ame through our doors and worshipped God wrth us over the course of the year, foi which we are grateful. Vve pray for even more to join us over the coming year. Leadership Our new vicar, Bryn Naylor, was appointed in March and initialty held the post of Priest-in£harge of Immanuel Feniscowles and St. Francis Fenisclrffe. The tsvo parishes were then legally united on 1st July 2024 to create a new Benefi of Immanuel, Feniscowles and Sl. Francis, Feniscliffe, and Bryn became Vicar of this new benefice. Each church retains ils own PCC and control of ils own finances. but there is a commrtment to a joumey of working mofe closely together. This was celebrated by holding a speaal joint service at St. Francis in July. The Standing Committee and PCC have followed a regular bi-monthly pattem of meetings. PCC meetings now lake place together with the PCC of St. Francis - the meetings begin with business that pertains to both churches, and then the meeting splits lo allow discussion of church-specific business. This has helped to increase the sense of both PCCS now being part of one united benefice. We thank and are grateful for all the work done by the many volunteeis who give freely of their lime to keep Immanuel a friendly, welcoming worshipping community and witness to God in the parish. In addition to a strong PCC, we are also blessed with the dedicated and hardwod(ing minislry of those who carry out particular roles.. Church Warden. Phil Entwistle., Deputy Warden, Peter Hodkinson.. Treasurer. Linda Moulden.. PCC Secretary, Margaret Duckworth. Our Vision Champion, Sandy Woods, has also begun training on Blackbum Diocese's Authorised Lay Ministry course, which will help him to develop the gifts we are already blessed with when he leads worship.
THE PAROCHIAL CHURCH COUNCIL OF THE ECCLESIASTICAL PARISH OF FENISCOWLES IMMANUEL REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 DECEMBER 2024 Worship Everyone is very welcome al Immanuel and we hope this is flected in our weekly worship. Our Sunday morning Holy Communion servi$ al 9". 15am aim to be suitable for all ages with hymns, prayers. a Bible reading and a talk. Our newly created narthex al the back of church provides space with some toys and activities for those with young children. Each week there is a 'Children's Sheet, wtth a child-friendly message related to the week's Bible reading, together with other themed activities for children to enjoy. On the second Sunday of the month this service is an informal Café Church in the Church Hall. As well as members of our regular congregation. this attract5 a drfferent group of people including our unifomied groups and young families who might be nervous about bringing children to a service in church. Refreshments are served befofe the seNice, which includes worship songs displayed on a large screen, interath.ve activtties and an all-age Bible talk. We continue to be grateful lo Sandy Woods for his support and involvement in thi5 servi. On the fourth Sunday of the month we use the Book of Common Prayer IBCPI. which caters to those who prefer a more traditional setvice, showing that we are endeavoufing lo cater to all parishioners. Our Thursday evening service is a shorter Holy Comrnunion service for those unable lo gather with us on Sunday mornings, and includes a hymn. prayers. a Bible reading and a talk. As well as our regular weekly worship. we held a number of additional services throughout the year. including a Songs of Praise worship service In November. Al Easter we had an extra special Palm Sunday service. attended by all ages and accompanied by a local donkey as we processed lo church from Pleasington Golf Club Vve celebrated Maundy Thursday together by having a Passover Meal, attended by members of Immanuel and St. Francis. We also hekl a joint Stations of the Cros5 service al St. Francis on Good Friday. Al Christmas our joint carol service was held at St. Francis Church and was attended by a Tecord number of people, for which we give thanks to God. We also thank him for our successful Crib and Chrislingle Servi on Christrnas Eve. which has received very positive feedback frorn rnany of the families who attended. We also joined w(£h our brothers and sisters from the local Methodist Church and United RefoTrn Church for a 'Big Sing carol event in one of the Ioc81 new housing eslales. In line with a newly adopted Baptism Policy, baptisms are now held in the main Sunday morning service rather than being celebrated separately. This gives us an opportunity to realty welcome families into the church as they bring their children to be baplised. and it's a joy lo see church full of people of all ages as they celebrate this important moment in the child's life. There were no weddings al Immanuel during 2024 and there were 7 funerals. We continue lo value occasional offices and the opportunity that they provide to share God's love and hope with people at these important milestones of life. Mission #nd Evangelism As part of the above-mentioned Baptism Policy, families who are bringing their children to be baplised are now invited to attend two baptism preparation sessions. This ensures that they have a Sound understandin9 of the Christian faith before making the promises of baptism on their child's behalf. This has been an important development in our mission and evangelism as it gives us the opportunty to communicate the Gospel very cleaty to those who we might otherwise have limited contact with. Throughout the year our quality parish magazine was published and distributed bi-monthly allowing for full colour photographs of all aspects of our church lrfe to be highlighted. The magazine keeps parishioners infomied of the important matters and news about our church and parish lrfe. 11 also provides a further way of slaying connected with parishioners. 11 is delivered lo a network of people within and kyond the parish and is available in church. We publish the most important and latest news on the home page of our website at immanuelchurchfeniscowles.org, which contains both up to dale information about our parish and an archive and history of all things Immanuel. The modern website is contemporary in style and the quality of appearance makes accessing information about our church both easier and more allraclive for anyone who visits it. We are also making more use of our Facebook page to reach out to those in our community, advertising Uoming services and events and sharing these adverts with local Facebook groups.

However, there are never sufficient funds available lo allow a raft of improvements to be carried out. Having received a sizable legacy the PCC obtained a faculty for the creation of a narthex al the rear of church in 2023 - an area which can be used foi meetings, a creche on Sundays, or as a wam place for vulnerable people to meet.
