The trustees present their report and accounts for the year ended 31 December 2021.
The financial staternents have been prepared in accordance with the accounting policies set out in note
110 the accounts and comply with the Charities Act 2011, the Companies Act 2006. and Accounting
and Reporting by Charities.. Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their
accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of
Ireland IFRS 1021 leffective January 20191.

Objectives and activities
Charltabla obl8ctlv8s
The International Broadcasting Trust is an educational charity working to promote high quality coverage
of the wider world across all media. We worf( with the media to ensure that aUdIen￿S remain engaged
with global issues. We provide our members with iegular access to influential journalists and editois so
that they can maximise their impact in a rapidly changing media landscape.

IBT has successfully focused on three key areas of activity..
Advocacy- lobbying govemment, regulators and broadcasters
Research - tracking changes to the media landscape and providing an eviden￿ base for our
advocacy
Capacity building- working with our members to help them to achieve greater impact with their
media messaging
Public benefit
The Trustees confim that they have cc)mplied with the duty in Section 4 of the Charities Act 2011 to
have du8 regard to the Charity Comrnission's gen8ral guidance on public b8n8fit and that the activit18S
arried out by the Charity during the year were 811 undertaken in order to futher the Gharity s aims for
the benefit ol the Charity's beneficiaries.
In particulai, the Trustees consider how planned activrties will contribute to the aims and objectives they
have set. The Trustees believe there is public benefit in raising awareness amongst the UK public about
the lives of people in developing countries, the issues which affect them and the ways in which all our
lives are interconnected. We have gathered evidence, lobbied broadcasters and published research to
support these goals.
Financial rèvièw
The Charity generated incorne for the year of £91,23512020'. £95,9951 mainly by way of membership

This resulled in a surplus for the year of £18,333 12020. £11,109), increasing the general fund to
£153,27012020.' £134,937).
Reserves policy
Unrestricted reserves..
The Board of Trustees have examined the requirements for holding an appropriate level of unrestricted
reserves in order to s8fegu8rd the day lo day running of the Charity and provide underlying financial
stability to protect its long-tem projects. It has been resolved that a reasonable level of unrestricted
reserves for this purpose equates to twelve months basic budgeted running costs of the organisation
1£70.0001. The unreslricled reserves at the end of the year are £153.270 which eX￿edS this level.
Asset cover for funds
The assets of the trust are sufficient to meet the trust's obligations on 8 fund-by-fund basis.
Fuiur• plans
We shall continue to focus on our three principal areas of actiwly, bul we shall also respond to the
changing media landscape, particularly the growing importance of digital media.
Structure, governance and management
International BroadrAsting Trust (the 'Charty'l was incorporated in England and Wales as a private
company limited by guarantee. as defined by the Companies Act 2006. on 31 October 2012. It was
registered as a charily in England and Wales, and the activities of the Charity began on 12 February
2013. The Charity is controlled by its Articles of Associats'tsn. The guarantee ol each member is limited
to£10.
Organisation
The tx)ard of trustees, which tllust comprise at least three trustees with no maximum, administers the
Charity. The Board meets four times a year. An Executive Director is appointed by the trustees to
manage the day-ttrday operations ol the Charity. To facilitate effective operations, the Executive
Director has delegated authority, within terms of delegation approved by the trustees for operational
8tters in¢luding finan￿, employment and development activity.

Risk Statement
The Board of Trustees have examined the major risks to which the Charity is exposed, and systems
have been established to mitigate these risks. Significant external risks to funding have led to a strategy
plan based around key partn8rships, funders and stskeholders.
The Trustees have assessed the risk ol the current Covid-19 pandemic and have concluded that it does
not have a material impact on the going concern status of the Trust.

financial year which give a true and fair view of the stale of affairs of the Charity as at the balance sheet

and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities.

This report has been prepared in accordance with the provisions in Part 15 of the Companies Act 2006
applicable to companies subject lo the small companies regime.

As the charity's trustees of the Company land also ils directors for the purposes of cornpany lawl you are
responsible for the preparation of the aeeounts in accordance with the requirements of the Companies Act 2006
I'the 2006 Act'l.
Having satisfied myself that the attounts of the Company are not reqUI￿d to be audited under Part 16 of the 2006
Act and are eligible for independent examination, I report in respect of my exarninats'on of your charity's accounts
as carried out under section 145 of the Charities Act 2011 I'the 2011 Act'l. In carrying out my examination I have
followed the Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145151 Ibl of the 2011 Act.

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no matters have come to my attention in connection with the
examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect..
accounting records were not kept in respect of the Company as required by section 386 of the 2006

audit in accordance with section 476 01 the Act.
The directors acknowledge their responsibilities lor complying with the requirements of the Companies Act 2006
with respect to accounting records and the preparation of accounts.

Basis of aGcounting
The accounts Ifin8ncial statements) have been prepared under the histori¢81 cost convention with it8rns recognised at
cost or transaction value unless olherwse stated in the relevant notes to these accounts. The financial statements
have been prepared in accordance with the Statement ol Recommended Practice.. Accounting and Reporting by
Gharitigs preparing their accounts in a¢¢ord8n¢e with the Fin8n¢i81 Reporting St8nd8rd applicable in the Unit8d
Kingdom and Republic Of Ireland IFRS 1021 (effective 1 January 20191, the Charities Act 2011 and the Companies Act
2006.
Going concem and Covid-19
The Trustees (Directors) have assessed the risk of the current Covid-19 pandemic, and have concluded that it does
not hav8 a rnaterial itmpact on the going concern status of th8 Trust. Th8 8ccoLJnts have b88n prepar8d on a going
concern basis.
Funds structure and aGGounting
Unr8stri¢ted funds are 8vailabl8 for use at the discretion of the trustees in further8nc8 of the gener81 objectives of the
charity.
Ineomè rneognition
All income is included in the statement of financial aCtiv￿eS when the charity is entided to the income and the amount
can be quantified with reasonable accuracy. The followng specific policies are applied to particular categories of
income..
Grants. donations and membership fees are recognised in full in the Statement of Financial Activities in the year in
which th8y ar8 rec8ivab18. This amount COV8rs donations rec8lV8d from th8 gen8r81 public, grants frorm m8mb8r
organisations and similar bodies and annual membership lees from the member organisations.
Inv8Stment income is includ8d wh8n r8ceivabl8.
Expenditure recognition
Expenditure is reoognised on an accru81 b8sis as a liability is incurred. Expenditure includes VAT which cannot be
recovered, and Is reported as part ()f the expenditure to which it relates.
A proportion of specified staff costs are allocated tts the costs of raising funds.
Charitable expenditure eotnprises those costs Ineuried by the Charity in the delivery of its activib.es and services foi its
beneliuaries. It includes both costs that can be allocated direcdy to such activities and those costs of an indirect nature
necessary to support them.
Governance costs include th058 costs associated with meeting th8 constitub.onal and statutory requirern8nt5 of th8
charity and include the independent examination fees and costs linked to the strategic management of the charity.
All costs are allocated between the expenditure categories of the slaternent of financial activities on a basis designed
to reflect the use of th8 resourc8. Costs relating to a particular activity are allocated directly, oth8rs are apportioned on
an appropriate basis e.g. staff time.
Pensions
The charity operates a defined contribution pension scheme. Contributions are charged to the statement tsf financial
activities as they become payable in accordance with the rules of the schemes.
