festival. Our programme of activities also focuses on audience development and accessibilty, biingiThJ Ihe arts lo
Ihe widest possibl8 community in London and in Ihe UK, in line with our current business plan. This includes
initiatives such as Young Shubbak, a PTogramme working with 1&25 year old artists, creatives and producers
towards curalino their own strand in the festival.

Counterpoinis Arts, Amnesty Inlernalional, Makan and the Arab British Centre culminating in poetic digital resource
by Farah Chamma and LIEV of cham*leon, offering a viriual manual of resistance and inspiration on the role of
art in building solidarity.
Resldency for Tunislan arttst Ayment Gharbl of Intorf•r•nco, a residency in London for the lead ariisl of the
Tunisian light art project, Interference, during which we facilitated meeting potential artis￿¢ partners. visited siles,

in our off-festival year, supported 25 emerging and established arbsts, delivered over 10 èvents across diverse
London vènues and online platform, partnering Ythh over 15 organisallons, frorn major inslilullons to grassroots
collectives.
Most importandy, we laid the ground for Shubbak Feslival 2025 by developing and commlssloning new art ￿￿rk. as
118s engaglng in research Irlps lo see newworks and develop new partnerships. We are expecting our next year
to be Ixjsy wth the fesllval delivery, 8ntl¢lpaled to lake place 23 May - 15 June across London and beyond. We

festival next year.

Our team redu￿$ In s1ze during off-fesllval yeats. Be￿en April 2024 and March 2025, a5 we were gearing up lo
deliver Shubbak Festival 2025. our team expanded with the appointment of an intèrim Executive Director In May
2024. Durlng this time we went through a ￿¢rUItMent process and aFvointed a new Executrnie Director In August
2024, expanding oui exlsung team of ￿MIanent staff conslslng of Artistic Director & CEO, Executive Producer
and General Manager. As of the beglnning of 2025 and wilh the intenslllcatlon of workfiows towards our upcoming
Sufflmei fesllval, we a150 recrulled a Director ol Marketing and Communications, a PR Consuttant, a Senior
Producer and a Producer. We ￿tre al80 Jolned by a Clore Fellow on Secondment.

The charSty is also knohyn by the name of Shubbak and Is a company limited by guarantee having been
incorporated on 27 February 2012., and registered as a charfty on 7 January 2013. It is govemed by Its
Memorandum ané ArtScle$ of Associallon. ¥thid) eslabllshed the objects and powErs of the charitable ￿mpanY. In
the event that the charity is dissolved, each n*mber will contribute up lo £1 towards the cost of dis$olulion and the
liabilities Incurred by the Chadty.
Recruitment and Appointment of Trustse¥
As Set in the AJtides of Associallon, the mernber{s) may propose and appoint any willing pgrson to act as
trustee for the Charity. A Iruslee's Inllial term of office is three years. When considering a nomlnaled Ifustee, the
charity will take into account the sknll$ of exlstlng trustees, of the proposed trustee and the skills requlred by the

1.1 Basi8 of preparatlon
Shubbak is a UK registered charity incorporated as a company limited by guarantee. The
address of the registered office is given in the chatity information on page 9. The nature of
the choritls operations and principal activities are directed at advancing the education of
the public in Arab culture and other aspects of Arabic arts, culture and heritage through
public performances and discussions. including staging a biennial festival.
The charity constit￿eS a public benefit entty as defined by FRS 102. The financial
statements have been prepared in accordance with Accounting and Reporting by Charities:
Statement of Recommended Praclice applicable to Charities preparing their accounts in
accordan￿ with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of
Ireland issued in October 2019. the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the United
Ktngdom and Republic of Ireland (FRS 1021. the Charities Act 2011. and UK Generally
Accepted Awuntln9 Prad1￿.
The financial $tatements have been prepared under the historical cost convention with
items ￿￿gnised at cost or transaction value unless Otherwise stated.
1.2 Fund accounting
Unrestri¢ted income funds represent those resour￿$ which may be used towards meeting
any of the charitable objects of Shubbak at the discretion of the trustees.
Designated funds comprise unrestricted funds that have been set aside by the trustees for
particular purposes. The aim and use of each designated fund is set out in the notes to the
financial slatements.
Restri¢ted funds aré resources which are to be applied to specific purposes imposed by the
funderldonor.
1.3 Income re¢ognlUon
Items of income are recognised and included in the accounts when all of the following
criteria a￿ met..
• The charity is legally entitled to the funds.,
any perfomiance conditions attached to the itemls) of income have been met or are fully
within the control of the chanty",
there is sufficient certainty that receipt of the income is considered probable.. and
the amount can be measured reliably_
1A Expenditure ￿CognItion
Resour￿$ expended are included in the Slatement of Financial Activities on an accruals
basis, inclusive of any VAT which cannot be recovered_ Expenditure directly attributable to
any specific aclivities has been included in these cost activities. Where cosls are
attributable to more than one activity they have been apportioned across categories on a
basis consistent with the use of these resources.
