_**APPENDIX ONE**_

## K-9 ANGELS TRUSTEES' ANNUAL REPORT

## FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31ST JULY 2023

The trustees are pleased to present their annual report together with the financial statements of K-9 Angels (the charity) for the year ending 31 July 2023 which are also prepared to meet the requirements for a directors' report and accounts for Companies Act purposes.

The financial statements comply with the Charities Act 2011, the Companies Act 2006, the Memorandum and Articles of Association, and Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice (SORP) applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Rnancial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2015).

## **Structure, Governance and Management**

The original charity was established as an unincorporated entity in May 2012.

On 18th July 2012, the charity registered as a charitable company limited by guarantee (company number 8147406) and is governed by its Memorandum and Articles of Association.

On 2nd January 2013, charity status was confirmed by the Charity Commission under registration number- 1150314

Since the charity was founded, significant success has been achieved in improving and maintaining the shelters abroad, spaying thousands of dogs in-order to reduce the stray population, education campaigns and raising awareness of the Charity's work. It remains an ongoing task to attract the income required to maintain and improve current cultures and mindsets as well as reducingthe overpopulation of homeless animals.

## **The Trustees who served during the year were:**

Mrs Featherstone Pearce, Ms P Mrs R Smith, Mr F Torrance Victoria Featherstone Pearce and Paulina are the remaining-founders of the charity, with another co- founder Tanaka (Svenska) resigningin July 2014 to follow her own career path.

Victoria is a Vegan and a keen animal rights activist fronting many animal rights campaigns for PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) and Animal Aid. Victoria is a model and has appeared in many commercials for products such as Guinness and Bird's Eye peas. A mum to 8 dogs, five of which are K-9 Angels' rescues. Victoria's dream is to have her own animal sanctuary as helping and being around animals is her passion.

Paulina, mostly known as Pola, is a singer and songwriter, best known for her album 'My Favourite Town' and is also a vegan and fitness trainer. She became passionate about animal welfare, after rehoming two adult dogs unwanted by their owners. Realising that there were many more dogs in the same predicament and that many of them would end up being put to sleep or used for dog fighting, she wanted to make a difference. Her dream is to live in a world where people adopt dogs instead of breeding them or buying them from pet shops.

Both Victoria and Pola use their media presence to highlight the plight and suffering of homeless and stray dogs with the aim to garner both celebrity and public support to help relieve their suffering. Their role within the charity is general management, PR,

school educational visits to teach children about animal welfare from a young age, fundraising and fostering.

Rebecca Smith joined the charity shortly after its inception in 2012 when she was Mayoress of Tunbridge Wells Council, and she adopted her first Romanian stray from the charity. Rebecca has gone on to adopt two more dogs and two cats from the charity. She brings with her a wealth of fundraising experience and networking connections and her role within the charity is general management, fostering, re-homing, and fundraising.

Fergus Torrance joined the charity as a Trustee in June 2015. Fergus is a devout dog lover and has independently rescued dogs from the streets of Greece and has adopted four dogs from the horrific shelter inRomania through the charity. He brings with him a wealth of business experience and networking connections. His role within the charity is general management,

The management of the charity is the responsibility of the Trustees who are elected under the terms of the Articles of Association. The charity does not have any staff and are very fortunate to have hard working, dedicated Trustees who

work in a voluntary capacity to manage the charity. The number of trustees shall be a minimum of three and a maximum of nine, unless otherwise so decided by the members of the company in a general meeting. Trustees can be appointed for a period of one to five years and can be re-appointed at the end of their term. The charity endeavours to recruit trustees through our volunteers, who complement and fit within the charity and provide the needed skillsets.

The charity is aided and supported by volunteers and a network of rescuers both in the UK and abroad. K-9 Angels could not exist without the help and support provided by numerous dedicated volunteers who carry out a variety of roles and work tirelessly to support the charity with a variety of activities such as: fostering; animal care; behaviour advice; fundraising; sponsorship; website design; PR; graphic design; filming; donors and the many people who share our appeals and raise awareness of the plight of the animals who need our help because they cannot help themselves.

Legal Purpose

The principal aim of the charity is to relieve the suffering of animals worldwide, but particularly in Eastern Europe and Asia, who are abandoned, abused, stray or otherwise in need of care and protection in particular but not exclusively by assisting the provision of and directly providing:

• to promote b1,rnaoe behaviour towards animals by raising awareness about animal welfare issues, providing information and advice concerning humane treatment of animals, promoting respect and compassion for animals and educating all relevant stakeholders, including the public, in matters pertaining

to animal welfare in general and the prevention of cruelty and suffering of domestic and wild animals.

- to conduct or support research activities in connection therewith or ancillary thereto; and to publish the useful

results of such research.

In setting objectives and planning for activities, the Trustees have given due consideration to general guidance published by the charity commission relating to public benefit. This report details the activities undertaken to further the charity's aims for relieving the suffering of animals for public benefit.

## Support for Independent Rescuers

We continue to support dogs in Beta Land the shelter we were able to finance with donations by sending food monthly. We have also sent food to other rescuers to help feed the dogs in their areas. And many other trusted independent rescuers when and where we can with food, shelter, and medical aid. Aurelia, Madalina, Alina, Chris Ellis.

We have been supporting Madalina by paying for hydrotherapy treatment for this sweet soul who is trying so hard to become mobile. It cost over 100 Euros each time for Georgica's therapy.

## FOOD FOR RESCUERS

We've continued to send thousands of pounds worth of food to our incredible rescuer's Madalina, Aurelia, Christian, Alina, & Chris who feed both shelter and street Dogs.

## Fundraising

The K-9 Angels were joined by celebrity judges, our K-9 Angel Jo Omeara SAS finalist Claire Aves and Big Brother winner & actor Jason Burrillraisingmuch needed funds at our Fun dog show in Cranbrook, Kent. So many beautiful dogs in each class, it was not an easy task for our judges. Luckily the weather was just perfect for our dog show with a lovely breeze. Together we raised £1,000

Huge THANK YOU to our amazing judges and everyone who supported today's event, also Big Thanks to all our great helpers who set up the dog arena, put up the gazebo, sold raffle tickets etc!! Teamwork

So lovely to see so many happy, healthy, and loved dogs. Beautiful day!

Jo Omeara our K-9 Angels performed to raise funds for such a wonderful charity. Always lovely to spend time with the likeminded Dominic Dyer Annette Gibson Maureen Hodgson & to meet Jo Bob from Camp beagle.

## - ' K 9 ANGELS REHOM!NG SUCCESSES

To date we have rehomed literally hundreds of dogs, mainly now living in the UK, but some have moved to the USA and further afield like Malta. So many happy dogs Sand some cats) living fulfilled and happy lives with their forever· ·families. We are so proud and happy when we get updates from our adopters, and we love to celebrate their successes and Gotcha Day milestones. If you have adopted a furry friend from us, please comment here and send us a recent photo so we can celebrate their journey! Here are just a few of the lucky ones, they make our hearts sing.

## **HAPPYIAILS**

We welcomed little Myra, Max, and Goldie to the UK. We promised to help these fur babies and are our first to arrive in the UK since the travel ban was lifted. Although the K- 9 Angels our main-focus going forward is our mass spay and neuter campaign we had met these dogs on our last visit to Romania and pledged to help them with their final big journey to their forever homes.

All 3 have amazing homes and we couldn't be happier for them. Huge thanks Max and Myra rescuers Cristian Madalin, Thoma, & Silviu, Encut & Goldies fosterer Chris Elis And huge thanks to Eli Pet transport for transporting and caring for them on their long journey.

## THEWAYFORWARD SPAY ANO NEUTER'

Whilst we adore seeing dogs in their forever homes, we have to be realistic and know that we simply cannot save them all. The ones left on the streets and in dire conditions in foreign public shelters suffer short and painful lives. That is why we are passionate about our spay and neuter campaigns. To date we have spayed well over a thousand animals!

Imagine just for a minute you are a dog confined to being behind bars in the worst 'shelter' imaginable, where only the very lucky make it out alive.

You would most likely be sleeping on a cold wetfloor and thrown scraps of food - and the resident vet is named 'the butcher'

Now imagine for a moment that gruesome scenes like this don't even have to happen in the first place .... ln reality they don't.

Team K-9 Angels and I have seen first-hand the gruesome' Romanian shelters'

described above because on so many occasions over the past ten years we have had to choose which dogs we should rescue out of that hell hole as we only have enough funds to help save a few dogs at a time.

I suppose the saddest part of it all though is the fact that this terrible situation could have easily be avoided in the first place if people only spayed & neutered their pets.

A spay surgery prevents female dogs from getting pregnant by removing both the ovaries and the uterus. It's not as simple as the neuter surgery the guys have, but the affects only last a few days, maybe a week. Afterward, she'll enjoy many health benefits and neither of you will have to deal with her being in heat & more importantly unwanted pregnancies."

K-9 Angels motto is 'every life counts' - continuing with the theme of our motto please spay & neuter your dog & potentially prevent 67,000 lives from suffering.

The numbers speak for themselves: if one un-spayed female dogis left un-spayed within just 6 years she potentially can give birth to up to 67,0000 puppies!

This number alone should be enough for every responsible pet owner to spay or neuter

## their pet soonas ossible."

Teamwork makes the dream work.

We are forever grateful to all our donors and all who fundraise for dogs in need. We would like to say a special thank you to our team members Lulu and Toni Mari Tame for their continued support in fundraising. This year has been particularly difficult to raise much needed funds, but Lulu and Toni Mari always find ways and are both consistent with their fundraising efforts. Toni runs our monthly auction and Lulu helps putting together fun events and fundraisers. 5 _. j",J_ ,['] -,.[i] _t_ ,. _`[,]`_ ~~.~~ .
