TRUSTEES’ REPORT

FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 JULY 2022

The trustees are pleased to present their annual report together with the financial statements of K-9 Angels (the charity) for the year ending 31 July 2022 which are also prepared to meet the requirements for a directors' report and accounts for Companies Act purposes. The financial statements comply with the Charities Act 2011, the Companies Act 2006, the Memorandum and Articles of Association, and Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice (SORP) applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2015).

Structure, Governance and Management

The original charity was established as an unincorporated entity in May 2012. On 18[th ] July 2012, the charity registered as a charitable company limited by guarantee (company number 8147406) and is governed by its Memorandum and Articles of Association. On 2[nd ] January 2013, charity status was confirmed by the Charity Commission under registration number- 1150314

Since the charity was founded, significant success has been achieved in improving and maintaining the shelters abroad, spaying thousands of dogs in-order to reduce the stray population, education campaigns and raising awareness of the Charity's work. It remains an ongoing task to attract the income required to maintain and improve current cultures and mindsets as well as reducing the overpopulation of homeless animals.

The Trustees who served during the year were:

Mrs V Featherstone Pearce, Ms P Pospieszalska, Mrs R Smith, Mr F Torrance

Victoria Featherstone Pearce and Paulina Pospieszalska are the remaining co-founders of the charity, with another cofounder Anneka Tanaka (Svenska) resigning in July 2014 to follow her own career path.

Victoria is a Vegan and a keen animal rights activist fronting many animal rights campaigns for PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) and Animal Aid. Victoria is a model and has appeared in many commercials for products such as Guinness and Bird’s Eye peas. A mum to 8 dogs, five of which are K-9 Angels’ rescues. Victoria’s dream is to have her own animal sanctuary as helping and being around animals is her passion.

Paulina, mostly known as Pola, is a singer and songwriter, best known for her album ‘My Favourite Town’ and is also a vegan and fitness trainer. She became passionate about animal welfare, after rehoming two adult dogs unwanted by their owners. Realising that there were many more dogs in the same predicament and that many of them would end up being put to sleep or used for dog fighting, she wanted to make a difference. Her dream is to live in a world where people adopt dogs instead of breeding them or buying them from pet shops.

Both Victoria and Pola use their media presence to highlight the plight and suffering of homeless and stray dogs with the aim to garner both celebrity and public support to help relieve their suffering. Their role within the charity is general management, PR, school educational visits to teach children about animal welfare from a young age, fundraising and fostering.

Rebecca Smith joined the charity shortly after its inception in 2012 when she was Mayoress of Tunbridge Wells Council, and she adopted her first Romanian stray from the charity. Rebecca has gone on to adopt two more dogs and two cats from the charity. She brings with her a wealth of fundraising experience and networking connections and her role within the charity is general management, fostering, re-homing and fundraising.

Fergus Torrance joined the charity as a Trustee in June 2015. Fergus is a devout dog lover and has independently rescued dogs from the streets of Greece and has adopted four dogs from the horrific Breasta shelter in Romania through the charity. He brings with him a wealth of business experience and networking connections. His role within the charity is general management,

The management of the charity is the responsibility of the Trustees who are elected under the terms of the Articles of Association. The charity does not have any staff and are very fortunate to have hard working, dedicated Trustees who

work in a voluntary capacity to manage the charity. The number of trustees shall be a minimum of three and a maximum of nine, unless otherwise so decided by the members of the company in a general meeting. Trustees can be appointed for a period of one to five years and can be re-appointed at the end of their term. The charity endeavours to recruit trustees through our volunteers, who complement and fit within the charity and provide the needed skill sets.

The charity is aided and supported by volunteers and a network of rescuers both in the UK and abroad. K-9 Angels could not exist without the help and support provided by numerous dedicated volunteers who carry out a variety of roles and work tirelessly to support the charity with a variety of activities such as: fostering; animal care; behaviour advice; fundraising; sponsorship; website design; PR; graphic design; filming; donors and the many people who share our appeals and raise awareness of the plight of the animals who need our help because they cannot help themselves.

Legal Purpose

The principal aim of the charity is to relieve the suffering of animals worldwide, but particularly in Eastern Europe and Asia, who are abandoned, abused, stray or otherwise in need of care and protection in particular but not exclusively by assisting the provision of and directly providing:

of animals in need of care and protection.

suffering of animals worldwide including as part of programmes we have created or are involved in.

to animal welfare in general and the prevention of cruelty and suffering of domestic and wild animals.

useful results of such research.

In setting objectives and planning for activities, the Trustees have given due consideration to general guidance published by the charity commission relating to public benefit. This report details the activities undertaken to further the charity's aims for relieving the suffering of animals for public benefit.

Rehoming

Our charity was asked to urgently help 5 Westie type dogs living in squalor in the UK. With continued support we were able to get all 5 into safe foster homes and then successfully find long term homes for them all. Whilst our main focus is spaying and neuter there are always dogs needing homes too. We have rehomed several dogs from Romania including Dotty, Luna, Cat, Joy, Merry, Ivy, Twister and Tipsy.

FUNDRAISERS

CRANBROOK DOG SHOW AND FUNDRAISER A HUGE SUCCESS!

A huge belated thank you to the many people who helped enable this great event at Cranbrook on the Green last Sunday, our trustee Rebecca had some lovely feedback from many people that enjoyed the dog show! It was a fabulous day, a real joy to see so many happy faces after such a long time in limbo! We have raised £900 from the dog show and raffle, and this money will provide food and aid for many dogs that have nothing.

Rebecca says "I'm so grateful to all who entered and bought a raffle ticket too. It was so lovely to see some familiar faces.

Annual Dog Show was well attended. thank you to our three celebrity guest judges, Jo O’Meara, Jason Burrill and Claire Reeves.

Jo’s Wing walk.

K-9 Angels are delighted to announce the first fundraiser from Jo O'Meara! In August I’ll be conquering my fear of heights (hopefully) and I’ll be strapped to a by plane, and I’ll be wing walking! All to raise funds for abandoned & abused dogs.

‘I'm so nervous but with your support want to raise as much money as I can. I’ll be thinking of my two rescue dogs Wilma and Wilson as I reach for the stars’. K-9 Angels is a volunteer run charity and I’m over the moon to join as a k-9 Angel. Raised

Helping other charities

we were pleased to be able to support Nowzad to get their staff and animals out of what was an extremely difficult situation during the conflicts in Afghanistan. Nowzad founder Pen Farthing is on the ground in Karbul, Afghanistan right now and has made an emotional plea as they desperately needed help with any donations towards their evacuation to help cargo fly 186 Dogs and cats to safety.

K-9 Angels donated £500.

Dogs in hot cars Campaign

Right now, Jo is spear heading the ‘dogs in hot cars’ campaign and is urging the British public never ever to leave a dog in a hot car because a car can become as hot as an oven, even when the weather doesn't feel that warm. When it's 22 degrees Celsius outside, the car could reach an unbearable 47 degrees within an hour. Even after just a few minutes the temperature can become unbearable. It's very dangerous and will cause your dog suffering and harm. The K-9 Angels are asking UK dog lovers to sign a petition asking all supermarkets to be more proactive and display the K-9 Angels campaign posters nationwide warning of the dangers of leaving a dog in a hot car. Jo adds ‘if we can save just one dog from dying in such a horrific way then this campaign would have been worth it’.

Thank You All!

Teamwork makes the dream work.

We are forever grateful to all of our donors and all who fundraise for dogs in need. We would like to say a special thank you to our team members Lulu and Toni Mari Tame for their continued support in fundraising. This year has been particularly difficult to raise much needed funds, but Lulu and Toni Mari always find ways and are both consistent with their fundraising efforts. Toni runs our monthly auction and Lulu helps putting together fun events and fundraisers.

Celebration 10-year Anniversary

The K-9 Angels recently celebrated the charities 10th anniversary with a fundraising event in London hosted by their friend nation’s favourite Eamonn Holmes. The event not only celebrated the 10 years of work the all-volunteer team have achieved but also raised £5,400 at the event.

What’s happening in the coming months ?

K-9 Angel’s mass spay and neutering ongoing campaign main-focus for the charity going forward. The ambulance will visit small villages and sterilise all dogs so going forward we can dramatically cut the number of stray dogs and prevent mass suffering in the long run. One bitch and her litter can produce up to 67,000 puppies if left unsterilised. The K-9 Angels believe that prevention is better than the cure.

Independent Examiners Report to the Trustees For the year ended 31 July 2022

I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of the charitable company for the year ended 31 July 2022.

Responsibilities and basis of report

As the charity Trustees, who are also directors for the purposes of company law, are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Companies Act 2006 ('the 2006 Act').

Having satisfied myself that the accounts of the Company are not required to be audited under Part 16 of the 2006 Act and are eligible for independent examination, I report in respect of my examination of your charity's accounts carried out under section 145 of the Charities Act 2011 ('the 2011 Act'). In carrying out my examination I have followed the Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the 2011 Act.

Independent examiners statement

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect:

  1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the Company as required by section 386 of the 2006 Act: or

  2. the accounts do not accord with those records; or

  3. the accounts do not comply with the requirements of section 396 of the 2006 Act other than any requirement that the accounts give a 'true and fair view' which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination; or

  4. the accounts have not been prepared in accordance with the methods and principles of the Statement of Recommended Practice for accounting and reporting by charities applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102).

I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
