TRUSTEES’ REPORT

FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 MARCH 2026

The Trustees present their report and independently examined financial statements for the year ended 31 March 2026

Objects of the Charity

The objects of the charity is to significantly improve the quality of life for those affected by long term disabling conditions by providing structured exercise regimen to stimulate both physical and mental awareness, encourage positive at ude and continually build confidence and self-esteem.

The Trustees have considered the Charity Commission’s guidance on public benefit, and they consider that the charity is fulfilling its obligations in this respect by achieving the above objectives.

Governing Document

The Charity is regulated by its Constitution dated 29 October 2012.

Organisation

The board of trustees consists of the chairperson, secretary, treasurer and other persons taking on whichever roles the board decides are required. The board meets as and when required and at least 4 times a year.

Trustee induction and training

New Trustees are selected from the local community, only if they have relevant experience, skills and enthusiasm to enable them to make a contribution to the administration of the charity. They are interviewed and, if they are willing to be appointed, they are formally proposed and seconded for appointment either at an Annual General Meeting or by the board of trustees if a vacancy occurs between annual general meetings. No formal training is given to new Trustees but they are briefed thoroughly as to the charity’s activities

Review of Activities

I am pleased to report that 2025-2026 was a good year for PosAbility. Whilst retaining our client numbers we continued to deliver excellent services from all our sites. Our staff numbers stabilised as did our volunteer and trustee numbers. Individuals took on new responsibilities in response to our normal challenges, our finances improved dramatically and we are we are in the process of implementing our planned trustee successions.

Registered client numbers have been consistently around 80 with an average of 55 attending weekly throughout the year. We retained classes at Histon, Ely, Soham and Littleport though we closed an afternoon session at Ely when a funded project to provide services to those with dementia came to an end. Owing to lack of demand we also stopped a weekly session at a local care home. One of our original therapists retired from the frontline, but her experience was put to good use as a newly elected trustee, and we lost a long serving volunteer who moved to be closer to family. Happily, we continued to maintain volunteer numbers whilst never becoming complacent. The balance of trustees changed over time, but each trustee has a specific role to cover our needs.

During the year we updated our constitution, whilst keeping it simple, and conducted a SWOT analysis involving both our trustees and staff. The results were remarkably similar to a similar exercise carried out in 2019, so we are aware of what needs to be done. The results will be used to develop a business plan aimed at taking up opportunities while overcoming our weaknesses. One of our trustees took over the role of operational liaison between the staff and the trustees. They attend a staff meeting monthly, and matters of moment are then discussed with the Chair of Trustees. This allows immediate concerns to be dealt with between the quarterly meetings of the trustees. We reintroduced a June AGM and these will continue as part of proper governance. Safeguarding, and health and safety with local risk assessments are well covered, and we have organised first aid course for staff and volunteers as part of our commitment to development and training. We maintained contact with similar organisations, charities and social prescribers and took part in local events to raise money and keep our name in the limelight.

TRUSTEES’ REPORT

FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 MARCH 2026 (CONTINUED)

Review of Activities (continued)

We continued to operate at a loss throughout the year, though thanks to a number of grants, donations and local fundraising we narrowed the deficit. Our treasurer finally managed to reregister us for gift aid. As a bonus we were presented with a major gift from a local charity that closed down. This has given us a substantial endowment, but the need for a full-time fund raiser remains. It is likely that this role will be taken over by an existing trustee after the next AGM. We now have someone looking after our much-refreshed website and our presence on social media is growing.

As in previous years we enjoyed a summer drinks party, had yet another highly successful Christmas lunch held at Ely Golf Club and held a trustees’ lunch at a local pub. As with all charities we depend on the good will of so many people, but we are an exceptional team serving an exceptional client base. Long may PosAbility continue.

Reserves Policy

The trustees have determined that free reserves should total about 3 months of total organisational operating costs.

This will be regularly reviewed to ensure that it meets the charity’s changing needs and circumstances and will depend on cash flow (and forecasts), reviews of existing funds and reserves, of future income streams, of likely future expenditure, of past operational and other trends, and of of the major risks facing the charity. The trustees will consider the likely effects of changes on the public and beneficiaries, an analysis of future needs, contingencies and risks with potential consequences for the charity not being able to meet them.

Review of the Financial Position and Transactions

Client fees appear to have increased compared to last year but when debtors at the beginning and end of the year end are taken into account they are virtually the same.

A donation of £50,218 was received in the year from the winding up proceeds of an Ely charity, Ely Community Service Committee. This is obviously very welcome and will secure this charity’s financial future for a few years.

With grants and donations, the total income for the year was £87,865 – a significant increase on the 2024/25 income of £40,461.

Total expenses were £44,482 compared to £52,699 in 2024/25. The major expense is staff salaries and travelling costs which were £38,381 – a saving compared to 2024/25 of £6,800

The Trustees are aware that continuing and significant income from grants is essential for the wellbeing of the charity and all possible sources are being pursued.

Independent Examiner's Report to the Trustees of Pos+Ability

4.

I report to the charity trustees on my examination of the accounts of the charity for the year ended 31 March 2026 which are set out on pages 5 & 6.

Responsibilities and basis of report

As the charity’s trustees you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (‘the Act’).

I report in respect of my examination of the charity’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.

Independent examiner's statement

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect:

  1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the charity as required by section 130 of the Act; or

  2. the accounts do not accord with those records ; or

  3. the accounts do not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts as set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a ‘true and fair view’ which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination.

I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
