Trustees' report** ## **2.1. Structure, governance and management** The name of the organisation is Brighter Future Foundation. The organisation is an unincorporated body. It was governed by a trust deed dating from 23 September 2012. Trustee selection method: Trustees are appointed and reappointed annually at the general meeting held in June. The trustees present their annual report for the year 31 March 2023 and confirm that the accounts complied with the charity's constitution. ## **2.1. Objectives and activities** The aims of the charity are: - to relieve sickness and to preserve the health and welfares of the people of Myanmar by providing and assisting in the provision of equipment, education and support services not normally provided by the government organisations, - to advance the education of the health care professionals and public in health care in Myanmar by the provision of educational lectures and fora, and - to support the undergraduate and post-graduate medical education and training in medical institutes of Myanmar by assisting in the provision of facilities, equipment and provision of lectures, ancillary to those provided by the government authorities. ## **2.3. Achievement and Performance** ## **(1) Support to build the Safe Hospital for internally displaced people** Many health care facilities in north-west and in ethnic controlled areas have been targeted and attacked by the military air forces since February 2021. For more details, please visit - https://insecurityinsight.org/country pages/myanmar A funding of £50,000 was provided to build a hospital designed in such a way to provide a safe environment for health workers and patients. ## (2) **Collaboration with Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh)** This project works on the development of undergraduate medical education platform in nonmilitary controlled areas. Their newly agreed integrated curriculum was piloted in Karenni medical schools and the other 6 non-military medical schools in Jan 2025. The second cohort in Karenni Medical School was recruited in a January intake, but the actual school opening was delayed to April 2025 due to increased bombing attacks in the region. During this reporting period, the project had good opportunity for engagement with the regional institutions and diaspora communities. The Training of Clinical Educators (ToCE) for the Technical Capacity Unit of the Ethnic Health System Strengthening Group (EHSSG) educators and nurse educators was provided. 4 Brighter Future Foundation CHARITY COMMISSION REGISTRATION NO. 1149753 - **(3) Continued collaboration with Cambridge Global Health Partnership (CGHP) to improve access to health services by provision of Telehealth Services in Myanmar** A continued support was provided for Telehealth services. The Cambridge team focused on establishing a telemedicine consultation service to fill the gap that was left in medical consultations in the immediate aftermath of the military coup. By the end of December 2025, a total of 6,481 teleconsultations were provided, and nearly 3,366 patients were new (66% of new patients were from conflict-affected areas). 23 new healthcare workers were recruited and trained for the telemedicine programme. - **(4) Continued collaboration with Myanmar-UK GP Alliances (MUGA) for quality improvement of General Practitioners in Myanmar** The Royal College of General Practitioners worked under three different workstreams focused on different aspects of strengthening GP education and working GPs in Myanmar. The first workstream focused on delivering educational webinars on specific topics, accessible to a wide range of GPs. The second workstream delivered Quality Improvement courses, focused on training master trainers that can cascade down training to others. During this reporting period, Quality improvement (QI) to Myanmar GPs through Myanmar GP Education - 4 QI Introductory Courses to 66 Myanmar GPs were delivered. - Monthly webinars for Myanmar doctors in collaboration with Myanmar GP Education were provided. - 50 clinical resources have been uploaded to Myanmar GP education website and there were 1400 new users to the website in the previous six months. - QI circles (8-10 GPs in one circle) had their monthly meetings for the collaborative learning and 12 circles were active in this reporting period. Quality improvement in Mae Tao clinic (MTC), Mae Sot, Tak Province, Thailand - QI training to 25 health professionals from ethnic health organisations. - Two QI audits were conducted on diabetic care and medicine record charts and discussed for implementation on improvement and re-auditing. - Monthly QI sessions with 30 health staff were conducted to support the development of QI plans within the clinic. - Online workshops were done for MTC staff for case reviews and building consultation skill. - (6) Humanitarian support in conflict affected areas in Myanmar A continued support was provided to the individuals and families of displaced people affected by the conflict. This support has been used to distribute cash, food, medicines and shelter in 5 Brighter Future Foundation CHARITY COMMISSION REGISTRATION NO. 1149753 different parts of the country. A disastrous earthquake hit Sagaing and Mandalay region on 28[th] March 2025 and hundreds of people died and thousands displaced. Emergency aid and shelter assistance was provided through local community responders. The total amount spent for humanitarian response during this period was around £95,000. ## **2.4. Public benefits** All activities carried out by Brighter Future Foundation were carefully planned and implemented with an interest in healthcare delivery improvement for the people of the Union of Myanmar. In addition, trustees believe that the UK counterparts would gain global health experience by volunteering in Myanmar and would bring back their experience to daily work practice in the UK for improvement of the patients’ care in the UK. 6 Brighter Future Foundation CHARITY COMMISSION REGISTRATION NO. 1149753 ## **3. Financial report** At the end of 31[st] March 2025, the followings made up final cash balance: There were no staff costs as all the charitable activities are solely based on volunteers. **There are no related party transactions between the Charity and the Trustees** .
