Trustee’s annual report for the year ended 30 June 2021

The trustees present their report on Look Around, the “charity”, together with the financial statements of the charity for the year ended 30 June 2021.

OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES

The Look Around is a charity registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales number 1149672 whose objects are to:

In addition, the Covid-19 pandemic put immense pressure on the community’s mental health ,

causing drug and alcohol abuse to double , therefore we set out three priorities for our work in 2020/21

The trustees confirm that they have referred to the guidance contained in the Charity Commission’s general guidance on public benefit when reviewing the trust’s aims and objectives and in planning future activities and setting policy for the year.

ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE

After being set up in 2012 by the original Board of Trustees, the charity has been active until 2018 and then discontinued its work. In August 2020, the board decided to hand over the ownership of the charity to a new Board of Trustees (please see page 3). Look Around began its work as a new charity under the new board, building on pre-existing aims of the charity.

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations…teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28:19-20) This is a great commission of Jesus Christ which has become a foundation of our charity Look Around.

The chosen name ‘Look Around’ has its significance and deep meaning: it poses a question, we ask for people to look around and see beyond the threshold of their own lives, to recognise that there are people in great need who are desperate for their help. This issue has given birth to our centralised aim, to connect those who are in need to those who want to help. As a charity, we join our forces to help less advantaged people: disabled, orphans, people struggling with drug and alcohol addiction, prisoners, and people who live in extremely poor conditions. Our compassion for the broken is deeply rooted in our Christian values. We believe that every person deserves to be given a hand of help, especially those who have been forgotten and ignored by society. Through this, we aim to restore broken homes, protect young people from the dark underbelly of society and gift those in desperation with a second chance in life.

Trustee’s annual report for the year ended 30 June 2021

After receiving HMRC recognition in March 2021, the charity has officially begun its fundraising campaigns and financial activity. The charity achieved net incoming resources of £26,986 for the year.

The trustees consider the charity’s period end financial position and the results above to be satisfactory and expect that the present level of activity will be maintained and increased for the foreseeable future.

We received donations from few people. The money was used on building the charity’s online profile and developing a fundraising strategy to increase the charity’s prospects in the foreseeable future.

Donations made it possible to fund our work with the drug and alcohol addicted, in particular, homeless outreaches, visits to families and individuals struggling with addiction and in need of help.

The donations also went towards the organisation of community events to bring the community together post lockdown and raise awareness about mental health and addiction.

Look Around provided a support grant to Christian Mission Church London to help the ministry, which aligns with the charity’s Christian foundation.

As stated in our aims, we also desire to help those in extreme poverty fighting with various health diseases, we have raised funds for an operation for a child in Russia who has been diagnosed with brain cancer and desperately needed treatment in Moscow.

Our plan for 2021/2022

We aim to continue growing and expanding with the ways we achieve objects of the charity. Our focus will remain on tackling the issue of addiction within our communities, expanding the capacity of the faith-based recovery centre for drug and alcohol addicted ‘Exodus’. We aim to grow our donor base, attract corporate sponsors, apply for grants, and continue working with local authorities to raise funds and awareness for our cause.

FINANCIAL REVIEW

The charity’s principal source of funds is donations.
