Structure, Governance and Management

The charity is an unincorporated association of parents, guardians, carers, staff and teachers governed under the constitution adopted on 25th May 2012.

The trustees are appointed for the forthcoming year by the members of Parents, Teachers and Friends Association during the Annual General Meeting (AGM) held in the autumn term each year.

Objectives and Activities

The objectives of the charity are:

The Executive Committee, as trustees of the charity, confirm that they have complied with their duty to conduct the affairs of the charity with due regard to the Charity Commission’s guidance on public benefit.

Achievements and Performance

We have raised broadly consistent amounts of funds in the year ended 30 September 2023 to those raised prior to the COVID pandemic. The number of people engaging in this collective endeavour remains broadly constant. We rely on a loyal and determined group of individuals to ensure the success of the charity. The charity remains dependent upon parents, teachers, friends and trustees to make the charity successful. We are very grateful to these people for continuing to give up their time in order to organise and run the events.

The main activities for the year 2022- 2023 were the annual Christmas fete, Christmas Bazaar and Summer Fetes, a new Fun Run open to the local community, and a number of smaller community events including discos, cake sales and quizzes.

18

Joseph Hood Primary School Parents Teachers and Friends Association Trustees’ accounts Year ended 30 September 2023

The profit achieved has allowed the PTFA to put aside money for a number of projects which will benefit the school community. It is anticipated that in the year ended 30 September 2024 there will be purchases of new playground equipment.

In addition to this the charity continues to help to bring the school community together for a shared purpose and is valued for the social opportunities it provides.

Financial Review

Receipts during the year totalled £37,631.17 (2022: £25,476.07) which represents an 30% increase on last year’s receipts. Income from donations has increased, as well as matched funding. The new fun run event was a success, and takings across all of our major events is consistent.

As a result, net receipts totalled £22,161.21 (22: £15,410.07).[1]

Statement

The trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit. All activities that the charity provides have the sole objective of raising funds to contribute to the school for the enhancement of the pupil’s education. Alongside this the charity aims to contribute to building a strong school community both with the parents and carers of the school as well as locally with the community and local businesses.

These accounts have been prepared in accordance with:

The charity constitutes a public benefit entity as defined by FRS 102.

1.2 Going Concern

The Trustees consider that there are no material uncertainties about the charity’s ability to continue as a going concern. They have therefore continued to adopt the going concern basis in preparing these financial statements.

Joseph Hood Primary School Parents Teachers and Friends Association Trustees’ accounts Year ended 30 September 2023

Tax reclaims on donations and gifts

Gift Aid receivable is included in income when there is a valid declaration from the donor. Any Gift Aid amount recovered on a donation is considered to be part of that gift and is treated as an addition to the same fund as the initial donation unless the donor or the terms of the appeal have specified otherwise

Grants and donations

Grants and donations are only included in the SOFA when the general income recognition criteria are met (5.10 to 5.12 FRS102 SORP).

Note 2: Restatement

The prior period figures within these financial statements have been restated to reflect an error identified during the period. In the preparation of these financial statements, it was identified that the School Fund account was not included, and had never been included, within the amounts disclosed.

The School Fund account was set up in September 2019 and receives donations on a lump sum basis from parents. The amount requested by the school is £60 per child per year. These funds are then granted to the School on an as needed basis.

The school fund received the following amounts:

Financial Year Ended Amount Received (£) Amount Granted (£)
30 September 2020 13,010 11,500
30 September 2021 7,394 9,000
30 September 2022 5,735 5,748
30 September 2023 10,388 10,465

As a result all appropriate figures for the prior year have been restated to include these donations and grants. Restated figures have been noted with an * to make their identification within these financial statements more accessible to the reader.
