achievements
ofthe charity
during the year||||2021 was another year of significant
change for Bethesda Church,
especially as a result ofthe Covid-19 pandemic.
The year began
with
most church
activity
still online. Attendance
at Sunday services,
midweek
Community
Groups,
and the Pathfinders
group, was amazingly|| |||||consistent.
It has been a huge encouragement
to see people persevere|| |||||throughout
the pandemic,
and to see how much the church community|| |||||means to people, that despite the limitations
ofZoom and Facebook,|| |||||people have made such an effort to join in and stay connected.|| |||||For Bible teaching,
we focused on Jesus (in the Gospels) for Sundays,|| |||||and New Testament
teaching
on the identity
and purpose ofthe church|in| |||||midweek
groups. These encouraged
folk to keep trusting
Jesus, and|| |||||helped the church to continue as a community
during
the pandeinic,
and|| |||||be better equipped
for church
life after it. People really appreciated
being|| |||||able to meet together
in-person,
as Covid restrictions eased.|| |||||The importance
and value of human
relationships
has become more|| |||||clear, and simple things such as a chat over coffee after a service is more|| |||||appreciated
than before Covid. As Covid progressed,
a significant|| |||||proportion
ofthe church moved away (15-20%)for family and work|| |||||reasons.
Itwas difficult to say farewell
appropriately,
whilst Covid|| |||||restrictions
were in place. Wonderfully,
new people have joined, and
it|| |||||has been a good challenge
to welcome them to Bethesda (and in some|| |||||cases to Brampton too), whilst some restrictions
were still in place. This|| |||||made the Autumn,
with the resumption
of full in-person
Sunday services,|| |||||daunting,
as it was more ofa re-start ofchurch than we envisioned
when|| |||||Covid first struck.|| |||||It has been wonderful
to see people serving
in new ways, as musicians,|| |||||serving
on welcome,
refreshments,
maintenance
teams,
leading Sunday|| |||||Club, and contributing
to Sunday services. Many have integrated
well,|| |||||and Sunday attendances
are not too far below pre-Covid
levels. Itwas a|| |||||joy to see a relatively
normal
carol service, after so much change. A good|| |||||number
ofnewcomers
have also joined
in with midweek
groups and are|| |||||already a key part ofthe church community.
Some folk still join online on|| |||||Sundays,
and we hope that they
will be able to rejoin in-person
in 2022.|A| |||||few have drifted from any engagement
with us, and we hope they will|| |||||reconnect
next year. There has been a general
unity around
church|| |||||policies
in light of Covid, which we are very grateful for.|| |||||Particular
achievements
include:|| |||||- Persevering
with and improving
church online. Worship services,
Bible|| |||||teaching
and prayer were offered every Sunday.
Materials
for Sunday|| |||||Club were provided
for parents 8 carers each week. Playlists of|| |||||encouraging
Christian
songs were produced
weekly.
Breaking of Bread|| |||||services continued
throughout
the year. Church Facebook pages and|| |||||the church website were regularly
updated.|| |||||- Sunday
meetings
and services in-person
resumed.
New teams were|| |||||formed to make services possible,
risk assessments
updated
and Covid|| |||||guidance
followed. Sunday
Club attracted
encouraging
numbers
of|| |||||children,
numbers
at Sunday services, on average,
only about 10lower|| |||||per week than pre-Covid. The tech team made streaming
ofservices
from the new building
possible,
with 5-10people joining
in online on a|| |||||typical Sunday. This has made
it possible for everyone to continue to|| |||||attend and be part ofthe church
community.

of Covid, and how God sustained
them|| |||||through
