Message from the Founder & CEO
Toby Freeman BCA
This is not the message l ever thought I'd be writing.
Usually I'm sat here, roflecting on all the incredible things wo have achieved over
the past12 months. the impact we have made on young lives affected by germ cell
cancer, and contemplating all the exciting things that lay ahead for our
charity and our community.
This year l am sat here. completely lost forword&
How do I put into words how devesatating the pandemic has been for so many of us
on a global level- let alone the cancer community, or even for our small charity.
The world stopped. and unfortunately our work had to stop too. We lost 95% of our
income due to COV1￿19 and the subsequent cancellation of all community events
and fundraising efforts. As a charity with one employee. without the Government's
furlough 5chome. the success of our emergency appeal and the kind support of our

All I can promise you is that we ore more passionote. more dedicated ond more

We have learned from our mistakes and listened to our beneficiaries. we have r

I do not know what the future holds. but I know we are better equipped than everto
face it- and we are grateful to everyone who supports our mission.
Together we will save lives.

Message from the Chair
Paul Rowlen
Words sometimes don't seem enough. but right now they are all I have.
In the midst of a pandemic, whilst worrying about health, family, jobs and homes-
our supporters pullod us back from tho brink. Tho rosponso wo rocoived from our
open and honest emergency appeal was incredible. We always know how vitally
important our work was, but it was heartwarming and aff irming to know so many
people cared, and the impact we'd had on so many lives.
Thank you all from the bottom of my hearL
I would also like to thank our amazing CEO. Toby, for stewarding our ship through
the roughest of seas and for being our beacon of hope in our darkest days. His
passion. dodication and croativity is nothing short of inspirational- without him
thera would be no charity.
I look forward to the new futura we have planned for The Robin Cancer Trust, and

Re-brand
New look; new mission.
The pandemic forced us to reassess everything about our chority- from the ways
we reached our community, to how we delivered our services, to the brand we
had built. and our mission moving fonNard.
We reached out to our beneficiaries and listened to our community- we founded
The Robin Cancer Trust because we lost our namesake. but we have grown to so
much more.
We have expanded our services from just awareness. to include dedicated
education and support programmes for individuals and families affected by
germ cell cancer.
We have led the national conversation around germ cell cancer. given our
community o voice to express thamselves. and reached millions of people across
the UK with our liftrsaving cancer campaigns.
And we needed our brand to reflect all that we have achieved:

THANK
You!
This has been the toughest year ever- for our staff. volunteers and
trustees- both personally and for the charity.
There are far too many people to mention specifically. but we want to
take this opporuntity to thank every single person, business and
organisation who have continued to support, donate and fundraise for
The Robin Cancer Trust during a pandemic.
Thanks to you we are can continue to support the UK'S germ cell cancer

In short
YOU AREAMAZEBALLS!

Our Future
It's kinda hard for us to say what tho futuro will hold right now. Wo'ro not ontiroly
sure what the world is going to look like over the next couple of months, let alone
the next12_.
However, we are building back stronger and more resilient to the changes
happening around us. We have moved to a fullrdigital operation that can
continue to serve our community across the UK, helping us reach more people
than ever.
We have rtrbranded and rtrfocussed, driving our mission to save lives forward
by putting lived-experience at the forefront of everything we do.
Education
We have adapted our education programme to be available in a remote. workin
from-home setting. allowing us to deliver liftrsaving awareness talks from anywhere.
to anywhere!
We will be creating a digital hub for educational establishments and businesses to
access our resources forfree- helping us reach a national audience online.
Engagement
The pandemic caused young people to avoid their doctors, ignore symptoms and
potentially start treatment later.
We will be aiming to reach as many people across the UK as possible with our award-
winning cancer campaigns. as we know our vital work making young people
symptomtraware has never been more needed.
Empowerment
We have listened closely to the needs of our community- and as a result we will be
launching our survivorship programme- aiming to improve the mental health
and wellbeing of young people affected by germ cell cancer.
We want to ensure that everyone who needs it has access to the resources they
need to support them during the most difficult time of their life.

## **INDEPENDENT EXAMINER'S REPORT FOR THE YEAR ENDED 28 FEBRUARY 2021**

## **Independent Examiner's Report to the Trustees of The Robin Cancer Trust ('the Charity')**

We report to the charity Trustees on our examination of the accounts of the Charity for the year ended 28 February 2021.

## **Responsibilities and Basis of Report**

As the Trustees of the Charity you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 ('the 2011 Act').

We report in respect of our examination of the Charity's accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out our examination we have followed the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the 2011 Act.

## **Independent Examiner's Statement**

Your attention is drawn to the fact that the Charity has prepared the accounts in accordance with Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) in preference to the Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice issued on 1 April 2005 which is referred to in the extant regulations but has been withdrawn.

We understand that this has been done in order for the accounts to provide a true and fair view in accordance with the Generally Accepted Accounting Practice effective for reporting periods beginning on or after 1 January 2015.

We have completed our examination. We confirm that no matters have come to our attention in connection with the examination giving us cause to believe that in any material respect:

1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the Charity as required by section 130 of the 2011 Act; or

2. the accounts do not accord with those records; or

3. the accounts do not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a 'true and fair' view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination.

We have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

This report is made solely to the Charity's Trustees, as a body, in accordance with Part 4 of the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008. Our work has been undertaken so that we might state to the Charity's Trustees those matters we are required to state to them in an Independent Examiner's Report and for no other purpose. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we do not accept or assume responsibility to anyone other than the Charity and the Charity's Trustees as a body, for our work or for this report.
