The Board of Directors, who also serve as Trustees, present their report and annual aceounts for the year
ending 31st March 2025. The Islingttsn Bangladesh Association was originally founded as an
uninwrporated charity in 1984 and later incorporated as a Company limited by guarantee (with no share
capital) at Companies House on 20th DÈ¢ember 2011. The organisation was subsequonuy èntered into
the Charity Commission's Central Register on 5th Sgplember 2012.
Islington Bangladesh Assoryalion IIBAI is a 8AME-led, muJti*urpose community organisalion based in the
London Borough of Islington. Founded In 1984 as a self-help group by local families and residents, the
Association was established to support families, young people, and older people experiencing poverty,
hardship, and other ¢hallenges. Its Core purpose is lo facjlitate access to mainstream services￿ncluding
local authority provision, the NHS. and welfare support-thereby improving the quality of lifè and wellbeing
of the community it serves.

Structure, Governance and Management
Islington Bangladesh Association118A} operates under ils Memorandum and Articles of Association, which
set out the goveming regulations. The organisation is managed by a Board of Directors, elected at the
Annual General Meetin9 held on 23rd o￿ober 2023 for two years. All Board members serve on a
voluntary basis, receiving neither remunèration nor payment for any activity corsnected to the charity
during the year.
Board members are regulady briefed by the Chair, Secretary. and the Executive Director to ensure they
are familiar with IBA'S rules. regulations, and msponsibililies. During the year. the Board met SYK timès
to review the Association's activities. Key matters considered indudgd the approval of the annual report
and 8c¢ounls. budgets. ¢8pilal expenditure. and the scheduling of fundraising events. The day-to-day
operations of IBA are overseen by the Executive Director, who reports directly lo the Board of Directors.
The Board actively monitors potential risks to IBA, both financial and non-financial, and has implemented
strategies lo manage these risks effectively. Risk assessments havè baen carrièd out in relation to fire,
health, and safety. In addib"on. the Board has reviewed risks in areas suth as operations. governance, and
compliance with laws and regulations, and has estsblished appropriate measures to add￿$$ them.

Thi$ year m8rked a period of ￿neWed progress and achievement for Islington Bangladesh Associ81ion
IIBAI. As lrfe has moved further beyond the challenges of the pandemic and communities have begun to
adjust to the ongoing cost-of-living pressures, IBA has strengthened ils role as a source of support.
resilience, and opportunity for our members, beneficiaries, staff, volunteers. and the wider Islington
community.

We have seen encouraging improvement$ in Community engagement, wf(h families and vulnerable
individuals benefitting from our ongoing services and projects. Despitè ongoing economic pressures, IBA
has continuod to maintain its programmes and offer vf(al support that enhances wellbeing, reduces
hardship, and fosters greater in¢lu$ion.
Th8 Asso¢iatitsn remains committed to safeguarding its fin8n¢ial ¥u$l¥inability and has made positive
strides in dÈvÈloping thè organi$8bon and strengthening its services. Our activities were based at 71
Caledonian Road, the Hugh Cubitt Centre, and the Bamsbury Community Centre that have become
vibrant hubs of activty, operating throughout the week and oc¢8$ion8lly during evenings and weekenfJ$.
These spaces now host a wder ranga of programmes and activits'es, ensuring that IBA continues to meet
the èvolving needs of the local community in Islington and neighbourtng Camden.
Services and activities delivered in 2024- 2025:
a) IBA delivered independent generalist advice, Casework, and infomialion services covedng
wèlfare knefits, housing. consumer rights linduding utilities and billing issues), and
interpreting and translation support. The advice service remains accredited by the Advi
Services Alliance and continues to hold the nationally recognised Advice Quality Slandan
(AQSJ. demonslrab.ng compliance wf(h sector-wide quality assurance standards.
bl To address isolats"on, poor diet, and cost-of-living pressures. IBA operated a Food Suppcsrt
Programme provtding freshly cooked, nulrilious meals. This iniliatwe supported individuals
èxperienang hardship, ill health linked lo diet, and social isolation. In add((ion to improving
nutrrftion. the service created a wam), safe, and welcomin9 environment at the Hugh Cubrit
Cenlre, fostering social inclusion and ¢ommunty cohesion.
c) IBA'S Physical Aetivity Programme was delwered as a targeted heafth and well￿1n9 initiative.
11 included structured sessions in exercAse, yoga, dan¢e, and movement, with a particular
focus on BAME women. The programme addressed barriers such as language. social
isolation, and lad( of access, helping residents to improve physical health, combat loneliness,
and adopt healthier lrfestyles.
d} Thè°Literacy, Health and ￿fe-S￿lI$ Club" continued to provide extracurricular leaming
activities and a structured homework club. This programme supported children and youn9
people at MSK of unaeracnievemenl, enaDiing parricipants to Improve tneir eaucationai
attainment and reach their academic potential.
8) A He3￿h Awarene$s C8mpaign was delivered through themed workshop$ in response lo
community priorities. The 2024 fows included childbirth and matemity care, br&ast Cancer,
prostate cancer, oral health, and mental wellbeing. A specialist course was also provided for
men with long-tem) health conditions, promoting healthier life8tyle management. In
partnership with University College London Hospital, Healthwalch Islington. and Whittington
Health NHS Trust. IBA organised a large-scale Community Health Awareness Event.
D Cu￿UrallY competent counselling was provided in Bengali to 15 local residents. This servic
supptsrted individuals who faced barriers to ststutory provision, induding language, stigma,
and confidentiality concerns, thereby widening access to mentsl health support.
g) A dedicated workshop was deliver￿ to support the local community in recognising,
responding to, and reporting hate crime.
h) During Summer 2024, IBA organised a community day trip to the seaside for local families.
This year, capacty was increased with two (xJache$ provided, enabling greater participation
and wider community benefit.

Make judgements and èstimates that are reasonable and prudent.

the charity will continue in operation.

The Dire¢tors #re re$p¢n$ible for keeping proper accounting records that disdose wth reasonab
at*uracy at any time the financial posrtion of the charitsble company and enable them to ensure that the
financial statements comply wf(h the Companies Act 2006. They are also responsibl8 for safeguarding thè
assets of the charitable company and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection
of fraud and other irregularities.
RoseThe Policy
It 18 the policy of the charity that unrestricted fvnds. which have not been designated for a speafic use,
should be maintained at a level equivalent to at least six months Èxpenditure. The Board of DirectOTS
consider that reserves al this level will ensure that. in the event of a significant drop in funding, they will be
able to continue the trust's current activities while consideration is given lo ways in whith additional funds
may be raised. IBA will actively WO￿ to achievè this levèl of re$éryes.
Rl$k Management
The Board of Directors have assessed the risks18A faces and have compiled a risk list which identified
the major risks by area of activity, the nature of those risks, the lik8lihood of risks happening, and the
measures taken to manage them. The Board of Directors review this list regularly at their meetings and al
its maelings with èmployèd staff running the $erviees. The Board of DIT￿r5 are satisfied that systems
are in pla¢e to mitigate exposure to the major risks. The finan￿$ of IBA are kept under iogular review.
Appropriate D8S (Disclosure Barring Servicèl Ghecks supported by regular poliGy revEw8 are made for all
those who work with children and other vulnerable groups wthin IBA'S activities.
Independent Examiner
According to the provisions of the Charities Act 2011. the Board of Directors agree that an aLtdil is not
required for this financial year however, dije to the provisions of the same act an Independent Examiner is
required. The D1￿CtorS agreed to dI￿U$$ the re-apwintmenl of lftekhar & Co for 202512026 al its next
AGM.
