The Board of Directors (who are all Trustees as welll submit their report and annual accounts for the year
ended 31S1 March 2024. Islington BaTrJladesh ASs￿latIon was first established as an unincorporated
eharty in 1984 and incorporated a5 a Cornpany Iwith no share 12pttal} at Companies House on the 20thof
December 2011. Its name was entered in the Charity Commission's Central Register on the 5th of
September 2012.

organisation based in the heart of the London Borough of Islington. It was fwnded back in 1984 as a self-
help group by bcal families residents settled in Islington by coming together to help other families,
young people, pensioners who face povety, hardship & other life challenges in a¢¢essing mainstream
services Il¢xal authority SerV￿S. NHS & welfare SUPFOrt Serv￿5> that will inwrove their quality and
stsndard of lrfe.

1) The relief of poverty, sckness and distress amon9St the Bangladeshi cornmunity of the London
Borough of Islington and others, particulaty bul not exclustvely by the provision of advice, induding
advice on welfare rights. housing. immigrats.on and health issues.
2) The advancement of ed￿at1)n ofthe public. particularty the Bangladeshi communty of the Londc
Borough of Islington, by the provisKsn ol homework SUPKK)rt. drug awareness amongst school
children, crafts and dasses and the organisation of educ*"onal culttjral feslivals.
3} To help and educate children, partioJLady but not exclusivety amongst the Bangladeshi communty of
the London Borough of Islington, through their leisure time activities to develop their physical, mental,
and spiritual ￿Pa￿tieS so that they may grow to full maturity as individuals and members of wciety
and that their condition of life be improved.
StNcture, Governance and Managoment
I￿ingtOn BangLgdesh Associab"on IIBAI is constiluted ty a Memorandum and Artides of Ass(Liation. It is
govemed by the regulations set out in the Memorandum and Articles of Assoaation and tun by a Board of
Directi)rs. IBA'S current Board mernbers wwe elected at the Annual General Meetsng that took place on
the 23rd of Odober 2023. The Board Directors give their time voluntarity, re￿Ne no remuneration, nor are
they paid for any other actNty relatr'ng to the charity in the year.
The Board of Directors members are briefed by the Chair, Secretary, and the Executive Director to
familiarise themsefves wth the rules. regulations. and responsibil￿"e$ of IBA The Board of Directors met 6
limes during the year to review the activrties of IBA induding the approval of the annual report and
accounts as well as budgets, 12pttal expenditure and to set out the fund -raising date for IBA. The day-lo-
day work of IBA is overseen by the Executive Director who is reSpon￿ble to and reFQrts to the Board of
Directors.
The Board of Dire¢tors are aware ofthe potential risks to IB& both finanaal and otheThvise. Thereth,
strategies are in place to control these risks. Assessments have also been takn.ng relating to fire, heaKh,
and safety. The Board of Directors have looked irbio other risk areas yjch as operabonal. govemance and
Complian￿ with law and regulations and have put appropriate pLans in place to addre5$ those.

This year cJJntinued to a difficutt and challenging year for151ington Bangladesh Ass(￿la￿"On {18A). for all
user and beneficiary groups, rTEmbership, for all our staff and volunleers and Islinglon's wider communrty.
While Covid restrictions were lifted and life was sbwly getbng bad( to nomality, we continued to feel the
impact of the pandemic and have been confronted by the cost-of-living Cris￿ wrth h￿Jh inflation, rising
energy and fuel ry)sts.

We have seen how many of our members. user5 wticulaty families and the most vulnerable in our
communty being impacted wrth rising hardship, increasing debts affec*ng the emob.onal wellbeing.1&4
continues to athety strive to protect tts fillanaal security to ￿ntinue to safeguard the ongoing
development of the charty ané its proieds and services that Ét offers to the local cornmunity in Isling
and in the neights)uring borough of Camden. IBA QFerate5 from its Centre at 71 ca￿on￿￿ Road.
London N19BT premises. the Hugh Cubitfs Centre and the Bam5bury Community Centre belween
Mcfftday to Friday and Oc￿S￿7na1 evenings and weekents.

bl IBA'S Food Security PrcI3ram￿￿ was one of our Lts-of4Mng support to prowde a hot freshly
oked nutritsous meal to people who were eYpw￿nClng severe hardship caused by the rising
energy bills and increaseA shopping bills. This serytce Nfds not jUSt a Chan￿ for our user5 to enjoy
a hot, tasty freshty cocked meal but also offered a Nfdmi space that was safe. oring, and
welcoming place at the Hugh Cubitt Centre.
c) IBA'S Phy4cal Activty Pn)gramme vras a health and wdlbeing proiecl with a ser￿S of physical
activthes composed ofexercise and fitress, yo3a and danee and movenEnt activibes for BAME
men and women. These actNrties have been fo(aJs&l on supwrting Islington residents, whose
health ha5 been impacted through lack of physi￿1 act￿￿es, poor lrfestyles, isoLgtion and
loneline55, and access and uptske of phys￿1 acbvities due to language and other social ba￿lers.

IBA'S DvJital Incbjsve Programme was a weekly ¢)ne4we and srroll group Digital Literacy
PrD3ramme. Thi8 project enabled our users who are dwJitalty excluded to get the basic digital sknlls
train to raise their digitsl knowie(kJe, be￿rne sufvenuy digtsl literate needed to keep in p&e

Reserve Policy
It is the polry ofthe charity that unrestrKled funds. which have not been designated for a specific use,
should k maintained at a levd equNalent to at ￿a￿l six rrK)nths expenditure. The Board of Directors
consider that reseNes at this kvel will ensure tha( in the event of a signlficant drop in fvnding, they will te
able to conts.nue the trusfs current acbwties while cxjnsideration ts gNen to vrays in vthich addrbonal funds
may be raised. IBA will &tivety work to athieve this kvel of reserves.
Rlsk Management
The Board of Directors have assessed the rists IBA faces and have compil&J a risk lisl which identified
the rnajor risks by a￿a of setivrty. the Dabj￿ of those risks. the likelihood of risks happening, snd the
moasures taken to managa trem. The Board of DI￿torS review thi5 list regularly at their meetings and at
its meetings with empk)yed staff running the serv[￿. The Board of Directors arè satisfied that systems
are in pl&e to mibgate exposure to the Ma1￿ risks. The finances of IBA are kept under regular review.
ApPrOpr￿te DBS (Disdosure Barring Serw"ce) checks supported ty regular reviews are made for all
those who work with children and other vulnerabte gr(￿p5 within IBA'S a¢tNtbes.
Independent Exarniner
According to the provisions of the Charit*s Act 2011, the Board of Directors a3ree that an audrt is not
required for this finaTraal year. howèver. due to the prov￿1)nS of trte same * an Independent Examiner is
required. The Directots agreed to discuss the re-apFointment of lftekhar & Co for 202412025 at its next
AGM.
