Smartys Day Nursery does not distribute income to shareholders and is a not-for-profit organisation with an income being reinvested back into the organisation and its progression. ## **Smartys Day Nursery activities and objectives** Smartys Day Nursery (Hitchin) is a charity run day nursery, providing high quality day care for children of 3 months to 5 years at low affordable costs for the local community. To enhance the development of children of the early years by providing care and education in accordance with The Early Years Foundation Stage in a happy and caring environment. We do this by offering the appropriate play, education and care facilities to all children and families ensuring that the nursery and company are inclusive to all, weather their race, culture religion, means or ability. ## **Smartys Day Nursery achievements and performance** Over the past year our achievements have been maintaining a steady running of the nursery and in the recent months a healthy occupancy of children enrolled at Smartys day Nursery (Hitchin) ## **Financial review including details of the reserves policy** Smartys has been running well with a good occupancy. In the last year we have had some refurbishments and expenditure as required. ## **Reserves policy** The trustees regularly review the cash reserves of the Trust. This review encompasses the nature of income and expenditure streams, the need to match income with commitments and the nature of reserves. The Trustees had previously approved a reserves policy which gave a requirement to hold at least one month’s salary total as a cash surplus. This year current level of reserves (total funds less the amount held in fixed asset funds and pension fund. ## **Investment policy** The Trust’s investment policy will continue to be reviewed during 2021/2022 ## **Fundraising** The Trust held no fundraising events during the year due to Covid19 and the restrictions. There were small events in house that were mainly were raising money for third party charities such as Children in Need. The Trust does not work with professional fundraisers or companies who carry out fundraising on its behalf. During the year no complaints or issues have arisen because of the fundraising events.
