## **TRUSTEES' REPORT**

## **FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 MAY 2021**

## **Trustee Annual Report**

The AGM was held on 30[th] January 2022 in person at the new mosque. This was a great opportunity to meet face to face with our members and new trustees post Coronavirus pandemic. The committee and the trustees would like to thank all members for their continued support of the masjid and in particular past donations, as well continuing donations during the present and financially challenging times.

The new masjid is now operational and nearly complete. There are a few items still outstanding as we start to operationalise the new premises.

## **Construction Update**

Construction work has been progressing over the last year in the presence of the previous trustees. Since new trustees came onboard a few items were still outstanding which we are working to get completed at the earliest.

Windows – Mosque windows have some issues with regards to their adequacy and robustness. This is being discussed via our architect and Barton Windows have been contacted who have been taken over by another company. We will be continuing our dialogue with them to remediate all known issues.

Dome – The dome had a leak which has delayed the installation of the chandelier and carpets upstairs. Dome company have recently carried out a repair and are monitoring the situation until we are satisfied the leak has been repaired to an acceptable standard.

Air Conditioning – We were made aware there is a condenser issue which means we need to spend an approx. £3500 to get this repaired. The company EPR will complete this as part of their remaining works.

Architect has confirmed the remaining work for each contractor:

## EPR mechanical Tender

Our architect calculates that we will have to make a final payment of £25,418.44 once the remaining items have been completed. The AC compressor replacement cost is included within this final figure.

## MPH (electrical contractor)

The electrical works have been signed off and electrics certificate has been issued. Last payment made to MPH was in January 2022 for an amount of £3,335.67. We are currently holding £1,000 retention monies for MPH (electrical contractor) and these will be paid once the last few remaining items have been completed – these are to do with external lights around the building and ensuring connection for extractor fans in the wudhu areas.

We continue to look at what additional items need require completion.

## **TRUSTEES' REPORT (CONTINUED)**

## **FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 MAY 2021**

## **Education and Imams Update**

We currently employ 3 male teachers and 2 female teachers and have 164 students on the last count in December 2021.

Madani Qaida and Al Azhari Qaida for beginners is being taught moving on to reciting Qur’aan with Tajweed. Hifz class is being taught by Mufti Sahib.

The foundation course is running now in its 3rd year Alhamdulilah, both for males and females. We need to review our education set up in order to attract additional students to the masjid.

We employ 2 full time imams, Allama Rabbani Sahib and Mufti Rizwan Sahib. Mufti Rizwan sahib joined the masjid April 2021. Mufti Sahib delivers lectures on practical issues in Fiqh every Sunday after Maghreb and also provides Darse Quran after Fajr on a daily basis. All these initiatives have been warmly welcomed by the community.

## **Financial Outlook**

Funds are required to finish the remaining items, and towards the first masjid renovation which will include updating the building internally and externally. Funds are required for ongoing masjid day to day expenditure.

Donation boxes are installed in the foyer of the main entrance. The masjid will also be taking card payments to make it easier for our members and attendees to donate.

We would like to thank all members for their continued support.

## **INDEPENDENT EXAMINER’S REPORT**

## **FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 MAY 2021**

I report on the accounts of the charity for the year ended 31 May 2021, which are set out on pages 7 – 11.

## **Respective Responsibilities of Trustees and Examiner**

The Trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The Trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144(2) of the Charities Act 2011 (the 2011 Act) and that an Independent Examination is needed. The charity’s gross income does exceed £250,000, however the gross assets remain under £3.26 million. I am qualified to undertake the examination by being a qualified member of ICAEW.

Having satisfied myself that the charity is not subject to audit and is eligible for independent examination, it is my responsibility to:

- Examine the accounts under section 145 of the 2011 Act

- To following the procedures laid down in the general Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the 2011 Act

- To state whether particular matters have come to my attention.

## **Basis of Independent Examiner’s Report**

My examination was carried out in accordance with the general Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a ‘true and fair view’ and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.

## **Independent Examiner’s Statement**

In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention:

(1) Which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements:

   - To keep accounting records in accordance with section 386 of the Companies Act 2006

- To prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records, comply with the accounting requirements of section 396 of the Companies Act 2006 and with the methods and principles of the Statement of Recommended Practice: Accounting and Reporting by Charities

- Have not been met; or

(2) To which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

## **GILLANI NOOR MASJID Notes to the Financial Statements for the year ended 31 May 2021**

## **7. EMPLOYEES AND DIRECTORS**

The average monthly number of employees during the year was 14 (2020 - 15)

## **8. TRUSTEES**

None of the trustees (or any persons connected with them) received any remuneration during the year.

## **9. PRIOR YEAR ADJUSTMENT**

A prior year adjustment has been made to correct the level of donations received in 2019 and 2020. Monies transferred from the deposit account were incorrectly recorded as income. The Trustees are confident that this was a unique and genuine bookkeeping oversight, and that the charity was and continues to be strongly solvent.
