trusteeshaveadoptedtheprovisionsofAccountingandReportingbyCharities:StatementofRecommended Practice
applicabletocharitiespreparingtheiraccountsinaccordancewiththeFinancialReportingStandardapplicablein the
UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2019).

OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES

Objectives and aims

OurMissionstatement"DeclaringChristtopeople,DisciplingpeopletoChrist"capturestheessenceofouraim, to
introducepeopletoapersonalrelationshipwithJesusChristandcontinuingtodeveloptheirknowledgeandtrust in
Him.WeareaBaptistChurchinmembershipwiththeBaptistUnionandthelocalexpressionofthat,theSouth East
BaptistAssociation.WearealsoactivelyinvolvedinChurchesTogetherinSittingbourne.WeareEvangelicalin our
beliefandpractice,proclaimingaGospelofrepentancetowardGodandfaithinHisSonJesusChristasSaviour and
Lord.Wepracticebeliever'sbaptismbytotalimmersionandacknowledgetheentireBibleasGod'sWord, having
supreme authority in matters of faith and conduct.

Public benefit

TheTrusteesconfirmthattheyhavecompliedwiththedutiesinSection17(5)oftheCharitiesAct2011tohave due
regard to the Charity Commission's general guidance on public benefit.
WehavereferredtotheCharityCommissiongeneralguidanceonpublicbenefitwhenreviewingouraims and
objectivesand in planningour futureactivities.In particular,the Trusteesconsiderhow plannedactivitieswill contribute
to the aims and objectives that they have set.

ACHIEVEMENT AND PERFORMANCE

Charitable activities

The work of the ContactCentrestillprovesto be a valuableassetto whichthe churchprovidesa safe placefor children
of separated parents to meet their separated parents, in a supervised place within the church on a Saturday morning.
Theworkof theFoodbankisalsoa valuableassetto thoseona tightandlowbudget.TheFoodbankisrunby church
volunteers on a Friday morning under the umbrella of the Trussell Trust.
YouthandChildren'sworkcontinuesonaSundaymorningandisrunbyourvaluedvolunteers,aswehavenot yet
beenabletorecruitanewYouthWorker,buttrustinGodthattherightpersonwillbeappointedsoon.Wealsorun a
"Mother & Toddler" group on a Monday morning. This is best known as "A.B.C." = Adults, Babies and Children
Thereareothergroupsthatmeetinchurchaswell.BrightHouronaThursdayafternoonforthe50+agegroup. An
AlcoholAnonymousGroupWednesdaymiddaywithchildcarefacilities,aswellasaMen'sFellowship, Ladies
Afternoon Teas and a Youth Band which meets on a Thursday evening.
ThechurchhasregisteredasawelcomecentreforUkrainianrefugees,butsofarnonehadarrived.Wealsosend a
numberofChristmasparcelstoEasternEuropeeachyear.Asachurchweareverymuchamulti-national and
multi-cultural congregation with people from many different countries worshipping with us, many from West Africa.
The church supports financially three of its members or former who are engaged in charitable work.
Groupsmainlyaimedattheelderlymeetregularlyinthechurch.Thesegroupshaveprovedvaluablein providing
fellowshipforthosewhoareelderlyandlivingalone.Thechurchhasorganisedsocialactivitiesopentoallonce a
month, and these attract people who do not normally attend.
We havehada new HeatingSysteminstalledas the previousonewas over70 yearsold,andwe are surethatthis will
saveusalotinoutgoings,thoughourfinancesremainverygooddespiteadeficitrecordedonthegeneralfunds in
2023.
The membership of the church at 31 December 2023 was 161.

Fundraising activities

We do not engage in fund raising activities other than asking our church members to tithe regularly.

Administrators report

WestartedtheyearwithacoursedevisedbyNathanfromthebook"IamaChurchMember".Thisinvolvedall the
housegroupscomingtogetherforafternoonandeveningsessionsandtaughtushowwe shouldacceptdifferent styles
of worshipotherthanour own. Mainly,it taughtus to "love"eachother,as we are all different.The courselastedto the
end of February.At the end of January,we joinedthe ChurchesTogetherin Sittingbourne"Weekof Prayerfor Christian
Unity",whichsawChristiansmeetatdifferenttimesandvenuesthroughouttheweek,forprayer,andendedwith a
prayer walk of the High Street.
At Easterwe joinedall the Christianchurchesfor the traditional"Walkof Witness"whichendedwith an openair service
and"preachment"byFatherArbooftheRomanCatholicchurch.EveryonethengatheredintheBaptistchurch for
refreshment and Hot Cross buns, followed by Holy Communion.
Ihopeyouhavenoticedournewchurchlogo,whichhasbeeninuseforsometime.Thankyoutothoseofyou who
submittedothersat the time.We alsohavea new SafeguardingPledgeas well.You can findthesein several locations
around the church building.
Wehavehadseveralsocialeventsaswell,withquizzes,picnics,andboardgamestonameafew.Thankyouto all
those that have organized them.
LetsnotforgetourChildrensandYouthwork,anda bigthankyoutoKudaandDanni,andallthevolunteersthat have
beensofaithfulteachingourchildrenandyouth.Hopefully,andprayerfully,wewillhaveanewYouthLeaderfor next
year.
Finally,I thankGodforallthevolunteersofalldepartmentsofthechurch,withoutwhom,quitea lotofthings wouldn't
happen. Thankyou all, for your service.

FINANCIAL REVIEW

Financial review

Onthefinancialside,2023wasanotheryearwherethememberscontinuedtheirsupportfaithfully.Thiswas shown
when we raised funds for the new heating system and just over £16,824, was given by members.
At thebeginningof 2023we hada bankbalanceof £106,607,whichincludedrestrictedfundsof £7,315(being monies
held for various church groups).
Overall,in2023,incomewas£173,730comparedtoourtargetof£155,010.Expenditurewas£183,681compared to
our target of £150,400.
As a result, we had a pre-audit year end deficit of £10,570.
At the end of 2023,the churchhad a bankbalanceof £99,949,whichincludesrestrictedfundsof £7,953(being monies
held for various church groups).

FUTURE PLANS

Lookingforward,wewillcontinuetostrivetoappointanewyouthworkertocontinuetheimportantworkof supporting
andgrowingouryoungergenerations.Wecontinuetoprayforthechurchtogrowandformorepeopletojoin the
membership.

The charity is controlled by its governing document, a deed of trust and constitutes an unincorporated charity.

Organisational structure

The churchshallbe servedby not less than four and not more than twelveelecteddeacons.They shallnot be under 21
years of age and shallbe baptisedchurchmembers.They shallhave been membersof SittingbourneBaptistChurch for
atleastoneyear.Theyshallbeelectedbyballot.A thirdoftheirnumber(orsuchasshallsecuretheretirementof all
deaconseverythreeyears)shallretireannually,butshallbeeligibleforre-election.Nominationsfortheofficeshall be
senttotheChurchAdministratorinwriting,signedbyaproposerandseconder,notlessthanfourweeksbefore the
electionistotakeplace,NoticeoftheelectionmustbegivenatpublicworshiponthetwoSundayspreceding the
churchmeeting.Nomineesstandingasdeaconsmustreceivethesupportofover66%oftheeligiblemembers voting.
Eachyear,aftertheelection,thechurchofficersshallappointtwooftheirnumbertoactaschurchadministrator and
church treasurer, and these appointments shall be submitted to the church meeting for confirmation.
During the year the Trustees met on 12 occasions for business with 91% attendance.

Risk management

Thetrusteeshaveadutytoidentifyandreviewtheriskstowhichthecharityisexposedandtoensure appropriate
controls are in place to provide reasonable assurance against fraud and error.
1) Thereisa riskthatdueto a slowdownineconomyandotherprioritiesourmembersreduceandstopgiving entirely
resulting in the church being unable to continue some or all of its activities.

Mitigation/Contingency

We regularlyannounceat servicesthat offeringboxesare availablefor givingto the church.We encourageall new and
existingmembersto giveon a regularbasisby standingorderenablingus to planourincomeandexpenditureusing a
predictablemechanism.Wealsomanagethecostsofeachactivityandgroupinthechurchinacarefulway ensuring
theyarecosteffectiveas wellas beingbudgetedeachyear.We holdapproximately30%of ourannualexpenditure as
cash in reservein the event of incomenot being up to estimatedamounts.We have also added a trackingpercentage to
a budgetmanagementreporton a monthlybasisto keep track of givingand expenditure.We also reportregularlyto  the
churchmeetingsonthecurrentstateofincomeandexpenditure.Electronicgivingisbeingprioritisedas a
communication exercise to establish more regular income streams.
2) Safety of Vulnerable People There is a risk that a child or vulnerable adult is exposed to some form of harm or abuse.

Mitigation/Contingency

AllourvolunteerswhoworkwithchildrenandyoungpeopleareDBScheckedandrenewedastheyexpire. We
subscribetothecontentandprinciplesunder-pinningtheBaptistUnionSafetoGrowstatementfor Safeguarding
childrenand youngpeoplein the localchurch.We havea designatedcharitytrusteeholdingthe positionof Designated
PersonforSafeguardingwhoregularlyliaiseswiththeministerregardinganychildsafetyissuesraisedby children,
youthleaders,orotherpersonswithinthechurch.TheDesignatedPersonforSafeguardingisnotifiedtothe church
membersand attendeesvia a prominentnoticeon our noticeboard.We ensurethosedealingwith vulnerableadults are
alsoDBSchecked.Weregularlydiscusssafeguardingatourleadershipteammeetingsandundertake safeguarding
training at relevant levels for those in position of leadership for young people and children.
3)BuildingAgeandConditionThereisa riskthattheageandconditionofchurchbuildingcausessignificant expense
due to emergency repairs resulting in the church becoming unsafe to use.

Mitigation/Contingency

We regularlyassessthe conditionof the churchfacilitiesand replaceageingpartsof the buildingto ensurethe  building
is botheconomicto runin termsof heatingandcoolingas wellas beingfit for purpose.We budgeton an annual basis
tofundrepairsofvarioussystemstoreducetheriskofexpensiveandunnecessaryemergencyexpenditure. We
delegateto a separatefabriccommitteethe tasksto overseethe fabricmattersof the churchandto communicate their
anticipatedexpenditureandneedstotheleadershipteamonanannualbasis.Thisrisksurfacedduringthe 2019/20
financialyear resultingin the churchneedingto dip into additionalfunds.Whilstwe believethis was a one-offevent, we
willreviewthebudgetduringthenextbudgetplanningroundtoensurethatanynewknownrisksinthisarea are
considered.

requirements of the Charities Act 2011 ('the Act').
I reportin respectof my examinationof the Trust'saccountscarriedout underSection145 of the Act and in carrying out
myexaminationIhavefollowedallapplicableDirectionsgivenbytheCharityCommissionunderSection145(5)(b) of
the Act.

Independent examiner's statement

I havecompletedmyexamination.I confirmthatnomaterialmattershavecometomyattentioninconnectionwith the

1. ACCOUNTING POLICIES

Statutory information

Thefinancialstatementsofthecharity,whichisapublicbenefitentityunderFRS102,havebeenprepared in
accordancewiththeCharitiesSORP(FRS102)'AccountingandReportingbyCharities:Statement of
RecommendedPracticeapplicabletocharitiespreparingtheiraccountsinaccordancewiththe Financial
ReportingStandardapplicableintheUKandRepublicofIreland(FRS102)(effective1January 2019)',
FinancialReportingStandard102'TheFinancialReportingStandardapplicableintheUKandRepublic of
Ireland'andtheCharitiesAct2011.Thefinancialstatementshavebeenpreparedunderthehistorical cost
convention.
The presentation currency of the financial statements is the pound sterling (£).

Income

Allincomeis recognisedin theStatementof FinancialActivitiesoncethecharityhasentitlementto thefunds, it
is probable that the income will be received and the amount can be measured reliably.

Expenditure

Liabilitiesarerecognisedasexpenditureassoonasthereisalegalorconstructiveobligationcommitting the
charitytothatexpenditure,itisprobablethatatransferofeconomicbenefitswillberequiredinsettlement and
theamountoftheobligationcanbemeasuredreliably.Expenditureisaccountedforonanaccrualsbasis and
hasbeenclassifiedunderheadingsthataggregateallcostrelatedtothecategory.Wherecostscannot be
directlyattributedto particularheadingstheyhavebeenallocatedto activitieson a basisconsistentwith the use
of resources.

Taxation

The charity is exempt from tax on its charitable activities.

Fund accounting

Unrestricted funds can be used in accordance with the charitable objectives at the discretion of the trustees.
Restrictedfunds can only be used for particularrestrictedpurposeswithinthe objectsof the charity. Restrictions
arise when specified by the donor or when funds are raised for particular restricted purposes.
Further explanation of the nature and purpose of each fund is included in the notes to the financial statements.

Pension costs and other post-retirement benefits

Thecharityoperatesadefinedcontributionpensionscheme.Contributionspayabletothecharity's pension
scheme are charged to the  Statement of Financial Activities in the period to which they relate.

Donated goods

SittingbourneBaptistChurchcouldnotoperatewithoutthefundingprovidedbyitsmembersandvisitors; and
the time and energygivenvoluntarilyby our members.A numberof vitalactivitiesfor all peopleaged from under
2toover100aredependentonbeingstaffedbyatotalofover40willing,trainedandCRBcleared (where
required)volunteerswho oftengo beyondwhat is requiredto providea safe,inclusiveand entertainingrange of
activities for all.

Financial instruments

Thecharityentersintobasicfinancialinstrumentsthatresultintherecognitionoffinancialassetsand liabilities
liketradeandotheraccountsreceivableandpayable,loansfrombanksandotherthirdpartiesandloans to

Missionfundsarethosespecificallynominatedbydonorsformissionariesormissionaryorganisationsthat the
church already supports.
ABC funds are the running funds for ABC - the church's parent and toddler group
TheTrussellTrustistheparentcharityforthefoodbank.Thefundholdsincomingfundsfromtheother partner
churchesintheSittingbournefoodbankandpassesthemontotheTrussellTrustonamonthlybasis,and also

The Bright Hour is an afternoon club for older people. The fund comprises their operating costs.
TheLadiesContactClubisagroupofoldermembersthatmeetsonaregularbasisforfellowship. They
occasionallymadedonationstocausesclosetothemember'sheartsfromsubscriptioncostsgivenby various
members at their weekly meetings.
Big LocalEasternSheppeyFunds are those donationsand expensesthat are specificallyused for the CAP  work
in the east area of Sheppey.
CAP Debt CentreGeneralFundis the holdingfundfor the contributionsfromthe partnerchurchesand also any
otherdonationsgivenfortheCAPDebtCentrework.Thisfundalsopaysthemonthlysubscriptionfee to
Christian Against Poverty.
CAP Hardship Fund are those donations to assist the clients of the CAP Debt Centre.
DefibrillatorFundwassetupafterarequestfromtheladiesattheBrightHourclubassomethingthatthey felt
was reallyimportantfor the churchand the town, thereforethe fund was set up to receiveany donationfrom the
churchmembers.ThisfundwaslateraddedtobyagrantfromSwaleCouncilandthedefibrillatorisnow in
place and available for all to use if necessary.
J&JMarkerWeddinggiftfundwassetuptoreceivedonationsfromthechurchmembersasournew Youth
Workerwasgettingmarriedon1stJan2022.Thesefundswerecollectedandthenpassedontothe couple
shortly after their wedding.
The HolidayClub fund was set up to receivedonationsfrom churchmembersfor the holidayclub that the  church
run during the six weeks holidays for the younger members of the church.
CTIS-ChurchesTogetherinSittingbourne-thiswasfundsreceivedfromCTISwhentheaccountwas closed
and the funds were shared between the churches in the town.
BMS2023Appeal-BMSWorldMissionmobilisespeople,resourcesandskillsacrosstheGlobalChurch to
sharethe goodnews of Jesusand practicalhopewherethey'reneededmost.SBC supportthis missionin  order
workhand-in-handwithglobalorganisations,missionworkersandsupportersto:shareChristand nurture
disciples alleviate suffering and injustice enable all God's people to play their part in his mission
Heating- Fundsraisedin orderto financethe replacementof the old outdatedheatingsystem.The new heating
system will be more efficient and reduce overall costs.
YouthCakeSale-Fundraisingthroughsellingcakeswiththeteas&coffeesaftertheserviceinaidof youth
related financial support i.e. outings and other related matters to youth outreach.
Nathan& AnnaWedding- Weddinggiftfundwas set up to receivedonationsfromthe churchmembersFor the
new ministerNathan& his wife Anna.Thesefundswere collectedand thenpassedontothe coupleshortly after
their wedding.
