The Students, Union is split over 5 differert site5, Canbrithje, CheFmsfcfd, London, Peterbmgh and Writde,

We have an amazing advi￿ Servi￿ thatCQV￿5 all five campu5e5 is an invaluable service to our *Jderts
prowding confidential, independent advits tts our ￿Udeftts who need a￿Staftce and help with nawgation of
academic regulations, a￿stIng with exceptional circumstances, appeals, academic misc0r￿uCt, student to
s￿dent camplaints and StL￿knt to universty complaints. We continue to see an increase in demand for the
ser￿￿ and this year have seen an Irrnse of over 15% in appDinknents taking us Iwer 1750 indlvldual
apwjintments for the tsam.
WlthSn the campus teams we provkle support for all of our students. Our work In representabon Supports
students to campaign for change and represent thelr vlew5 at all levels ocr055 ARU. We hokj annual deitions
for a variety of leadwthip positions. In 202+25 over 650 course, faculty, camws, al￿ institutional level
presentatives We￿ elec￿, ensuring that our memb￿5 lead the direction of our Union. These
representatives are voluntevs and 3ctively seek fe&lback from their colleagues to presert back to their
tEaching staff to ensure continutyjs im[￿ement in their ￿l￿at[onal and student experien￿.
The S￿dents, Union provide5 a lanje chthce of rttreational clubs and sociebes across wr campuses for
students to Kitn. Our aim has been to grow the number of clubs and SOCIet￿S and the number of s￿dents
wh) are members of these groups and g)cieties. kross all of our CaMpL￿S yve exceed8J over 200 groups
arKI societis with over 3000 student membevs. groups are all Student-1￿ and, with 5UPWrt from our
siaff team, ran over 6CQ events last year both on and off Camp￿5. We are seeing growth in ¢JJr clubs and
e5 across all of our campuses.

theme. ()Jr events wokk to brirwJ si￿ents tojether and give than a sense of community. Ths year we
ddivered hugdy successful wdcome weeks in Cambridge, Chdmsford, Petwt¢rough, Wrltue and London.
These w&e delivered during bjth the septeM￿r and January intske peritsjs. In addition to this a further
wdo)me week was provided at our London campus in May to welcome the new students who stsrted then.
These w&ks prowde a warm welccffie to all new ARU Students, hdplng them to conne¢ make fiiend5 and
prepare for studying at ARU. At these weeks we prowde a large numI￿r of events aim•l tts txovith a warm
wdcome to all of tyjr students. Hlghlightsthis year included the wdcome fairs which saw over 70(K¢ thdents
attending. We contlnue this prnw90n thmughout the y&ir. Highlights wthin the year were our Winter frdirs,
end of year ￿lebrai10nS and our Holi Whe￿ hundreds of students caffR tsgether to cdebyats Fknli.
We offer a range ofcommercial swi￿$ across our cam[￿￿$. Al CaMp￿S can make ￿ oftr* online shop
b) wrchase stabow and branded clothing. Ln thelmsford we 92 which is a café style operatlon sejli
hot drinks arKI fDJd to duriro the day. En the ewEnirvJ, we run mary events in the Sp￿ Wlth a fully
Sicensed bar. In Cambridge we pro¥ide a retail (*Jd¢ sdling primarity brand&1 clothiw and *atKJnery
alongside craft materials for cxjr *t students. There are 2 cafe5 at STnaller sites in Cambridge. These 2 cafe5
ao daytime ryerations selllng hot drinks and fcod to students. This year we tcok ober a café and bar at our
Writtle campus folkn￿r￿j the mew wi February 2024. These ftym the hub of gxtal life at our Writde
Camp￿ arKt are very popular. Also, at writt￿ this year we ran a 9Jmmer ball the sbjdentsi kyoviding
food, drtnk, entertainment arKI awards. Over 70% of Wrltde stIAl￿ts attended ths years evenL
Our dettgj offiw team ran a series of canpaKJns and events this on student feedback. MJtst4e
hlghlights of the year indude the devek¥)ment of the One Voice campaign which 9)ught to in(rease the
educational experlence for our sbjdent t￿. Thls campaign Consu￿ with many students and highllghted
in depth the views of students and è n￿￿ter of steps and actions for the University to tske to imwove the
overall alucational experien￿ of wr st￿en￿ Thls ret*Nt was rec￿1 p)sitFvety by the University,
and the offiw team have been working with the Universty to instil a ofthe5e actio1￿.
The officers created a foxl pantry at our Chdmsford an(1 Cambridge camPL￿ to hdp thc6e St￿nts get
the e55entials thatttw need in a cost-of-livlNJ crigs. The pantry provSd8J everyday essWtials such as rice,
pasta, toilet rdls and tin5 of vegetatrle5. The panty has teen hugety Fwular with all of our stud￿￿ At our
Writtle campus tl*re has been a panbry in pla￿ for a number of years, and this has continued to SLbPPOrt
many students.
A tr￿using campalgn wa5 launched to housing issues for our students, the Offl￿r5 wixked at
local and rb)Oonal tevel, ￿1vIng issues dlrecdy for thdents arkl worklng akng&de the Natk)nal Union of
Students to Influen￿ and Icijby for s￿dert r¥hts in the new Housing bill,

Venues Entertairments has worsened to £812,463 {2024'. £6(6,394) on a fijll b3SiS.
A desgnat&l reserve kras LEen set up to reflect the remaining t*ngon liability of £686,813 whlch Is ￿able over
next 12 yeais. The iThJusion of the overall pension dthot and ther deslgnated r&eNes resuK5 in the totsl r£t assets
mounting to £515,85012024'. assets of £485,460).
The Trustees note the Union has ended the fitwncial year with a defiat of £30,390 (2024: SurF4us of £1,844) and
retsined General Reserves, exduding the pension defia¢ of £1,001,607 [2024: EI,034,423). The Union had net
assets of £515￿50 at the y&ir*nd (2024: assets of £485,460) and rmlns financrally strong.
At the year end, restri￿ fvnd5 of £68,674 (2024: É56,143) and £30,035 (2024: £16,248) r4)resent the unspent
part of University grart which has been rin*faKed ft>r use in relation to ARU Lo￿n hAU P￿rL￿h
p￿tiv￿Y.
The Unkfi has a general reserves poliry of 3 months oE*rdting costs plus the financiab impli¢atiors of the top S risks
in the union's risk register whith follows Charity Cc¥nmisgon guidan￿. We also have an invesbnent policy whid)

Arulia Ruskin Sttjdents, unl￿ (the'union? incorporated as a company liM￿d by guarantee (Company no, 08064796)
on 10th May 2012, and on 15th Augusi 2012 registered as a legal entity with the Charity Commission {ChaTity
. 1148574). The Charitable Company took over the assets atyj activitie5 of the existing unincorporat￿1 Union on
1st S¥>tember 2012 from which date it comMe￿ed operati)n5.
The Trustee F￿r￿ operates four sub-committees trj supkKJrt their work and d￿lsiC￿ ma￿ng. The Finan￿ & R(d(
Committ* Overs￿ the financial and risk management of the Unl￿. The Appointments and &)v&nance Ccmmtitee
over5ee5 the apwintmen¢ induction atvj development ofthe Board and Senior Manag￿ent Team of the Uni¢)n and
the HR aM1 Employee Engagement Q)mmitt& Overs￿ the SUFP)rt and ¢evelopmwt of employed staff ark
vdun*ers. The renumeration C￿￿Mitt* has the oversght of the Union's pay structure, which indudes the pay &
reMl￿eratb)n of senlor personnel.
Offi￿r Trust*s are elect81 by the student body; External and Trustees are ar4xintèJ by a Co￿ltLIttyI
Apwintments & Govemance Commtiee, and their ap￿4ntMertt is ratified by un￿rt Counol. Trustee5 rffeive a full
induction into the Union, and all categories of Trustee are Offer￿ training and developmut oppK)rtunities to 9JPWrt
them to be effective In thelr roles.
The Tnjstees have paid due regard to guidance issu&J by the Commission on public benefft 4)nd other areas
in de(idirKJ what activilies Charlty slKsuld urKlertake.
Scheme of D*gated Authority is reviewed annually by Trustees. Delegated aut￿rity is given to the Chief
Executive to manage the Union by impEementing the pdicy and strategy adoptsd by and within a budget approvql

UnIve￿ty wli I not continue the foreseeable future, as the Educati{￿ Act 199¢ impLEes a duty on the Uniw5ity
to ensure the financial vtability of its student representative bTr*.
