Introduction
This is my third report as PCC Secretary. It has been the most difficult year for the Parish, in the time of Covid 19 pandemic and the many lockdowns. I must first offer my sincere condolences to all those friends and relatives of people who have died. We all know many people who have been affected and we will continue to pray for them. Services in Church were severely limited to Christmas 2020, although Martin has valiantly enabled ZOOM services to be held every week which were very well attended. We are all so grateful for the enormous workload he has managed throughout this time. This includes continuing to support the 2 primary schools every week. In the Church we have managed to start the organ restoration project, which we hope will be completed in the next month. All fund-raising activities were stopped by the pandemic, as were many other initiatives that the Parish had hoped to carry out and planned. We are very grateful to all the parishioners who have ensured that we have been able to maintain regular contact with all our electoral roll members and gave support in many forms where this was required. Parochial Church Council (PCC)
The Purpose of the PCC
Honley with Brockholes PCC is the official, partly-elected, body which shares responsibility for the whole parish with the vicar. its principal function is to co-operate with the vicar in promoting in the parish the whole mission of the Church, pastoral, evangelistic, social and ecumenical, it also has responsibility for the maintenance of St Mary's Church, Honley, St George's Church, Brockholes, Honley Parish Room and the Cremation Plot at Honley Burial Ground.

Members of the PCC are either ex-officio or elected by the Annual Parochial Church Meeting (APCM) in accordance with the Church Representation Rules. Some members may be co-opted. During 2020/2021 the following served as members of the PCC.

Committees of the PCC
The PCC has the following committees which meet between full meetings of the PCC:
(a) Standing Committee is the only committee required by law. It has the power to transact the business of the PCC between meetings, subject to any direction given by the PCC. It consists of the Vicar, Churchwardens, PCC Treasurer and PCC Secretary. It met 'virtually' on 1 occasion in 2020/21.
(b) Finance and Property Group oversees the finance and property of the parish, monitoring income and expenditure, preparing the budget and overseeing major repairs and improvements. This group did not meet in 2010/2021. The business was managed by the PCC or the Standing Committee where necessary.

VICARS REPORT
Dear friends,
I would not really have expected to be writing a report for 2020 with so little detail but it has not been a normal year with any stretch of the imagination. Sanitizer and face masks have become common place we now understand what 2 meters looks like.
Thank you for your faithful diligence and understanding, your support of those around you and each other. Covid 19 is a word that will stay etched in our memories for many years to come. It has been painful and many have felt lonely and isolated even in the most painful of moments. And celebrations have been muted if not cancelled although two weddings took place during the release during the summer.
I would like to thank all those who have supported others by regular phone calls, waves at the windows, offers to shop, drooping off notice sheets. We have learnt to Zoom, sing online, enjoy coffee and chats remotely. Completed Bible studies; Start and Moving On. Smiled behind our masks. Had brief release to worship in church in limited numbers. We have held meetings online and even prepared for funerals in the same way.
Mothering Sunday was our start of the first lockdown in March. It was strange not to be able to gather at Easter and Christmas as a congregation in church. But I am reminded we still meet as Church, the people of God together.
Remembrance Sunday was extremely limited, but we were one of the few services sanctioned by Kirklees.
Sadly, we have taken over 40 funerals or interments during the year, some of these have been held in church.
During this year the work on the organ at St Mary’s has been able to start hopefully it will be completed by the time we can all come back into the building.
During the summer St George’s was able to re-enter the building with a complete congregation for a short period before we again locked down.
I would like to thank all who continue to be faithful in there giving. And support of the mission of God in this community and beyond. We have spent some legacy money on Parish share as we felt it was only right to support others who have not got such reserves.
We continue to face the challenge of our finance; I am pleased to say we have made progress in this, even during a difficult year, but we need to continue the journey.
I would like to thank the members of the PCC for their continued diligence and prayerful service. Also, Clive, Pauline and Roger who take care of our church accounts and put in many hours of work on these. Charles as he keeps us up to date as PCC secretary and Cate our Safeguarding officer.
I would like to take this opportunity to single out our Church wardens Laurence, Richard, Joan and Paul for their support and willingness to serve.
Those who volunteer to read from God’s word for us, pray lead in various ways Elizabeth, Jeremy, Hazel and Bill who have bravely played online in our worship.
I pray soon we will be able to go into the world as the people of God, the body of Christ, to fulfil our calling knowing that nothing in this world can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord and knowing

that as you love one another and love our world as he did that the kingdom draws closer, the kingdom in which we are blest forevermore.
Epilogue.
Finally, to all who have been parted from a loved one this year sadly all too many, we offer our love and our prayers. They are all sadly missed, and we commend them to our Heavenly Father.
My prayer is that we may faithfully serve our Lord and glorify him.

CHURCH WARDENS’ REPORT – ST MARY’S 2020
What a difficult year for all of us! Our special thanks go to Revd Martin for his fantastic organisation of the many ZOOM services and activities he has undertaken. A big thankyou to the team of parish communicators who have maintained phone/email/visits at a distance with all the parish family. At St Mary’s we have had to sustain the organ renovations for the entire period, facilitating the access and avoiding being in the building while the work is ongoing. We have also had to deal with leaking pipework, maintaining boiler pressure, for the occasional opening of the church for services. Parts of the roof need maintenance as there is evidence of leakage, but due to an accident our usual roofer is not available. The Parish Room has suffered from damp due to lack of use and has required some re-wiring. This will need a major effort from volunteers to restore it to functionality once open access is restored. Painting and floor sanding will be needed. The parish has also secured permission to use a plot of land in Marsh Gardens for village growing, which has been prepared and is now attracting considerable village interest. The work has been especially supported by Janet Labinska, our flower arranger. We look forward to getting back to the new normal in the near future. God bless you all.
CHURCH WARDENS’ REPORT – ST GEORGE’S 2020
At St. George’s too, the last year was one of pandemic, ZOOM and gloom. It has presented many challengers to our church family and Martin has worked tirelessly to continue his ministry with hard work and ingenuity whilst coping with social distancing and lockdown restrictions. A big thankyou to our chuch teams who have rallied around to continue and develop communications and face-to-face visits. We have even had new members added to our congregation both in church and digitally. The fabric of the church was inspected last year and requires some routine maintenance and repair, and also included the eviction of a family of squirrels from the bell tower. We look forward to all being able to return to church worship together soon.
DEANERY REPORT- 2020
Activity in 2020 was very limited due to the pandemic and the lockdowns. Since the meeting in March 2020 held just before the lockdown, a ZOOM meeting was held. In2021, activity increased with 2 ZOOM meetings, including the AGM on 25[th] February where elections were held for the 2 Synods, Huddersfield and Almondbury/Kirkheaton. Matthew Ambler was re-elected lay chair for Huddersfield, but lay chair for Almondbury/Kirkheaton remains vacant as Revd Julie Anderson has to stand down. We look forward to increased activity as we come out of lockdown.

SAFEGUARDING
Safeguarding has high priority in our parish being a standing agenda item for PCC. The Diocese has recently launched a new tool, Dashboard, to assist parishes to ensure all aspects of safeguarding are addressed. St Mary’s and St. George’s are well on the way to completing all requirements. All members of PCC have up to date DBS certificates and are in the process of completing online Awareness Raising for Safeguarding. Our information has recently been updated and is readily available on our website and on display in both churches. Further training will be undertaken when face to face training by the diocese begins again. Cate Ashley
ST MARY’S HOME GROUP
The 8 members of the group (which originated from the 2014 Alpha Course) met weekly throughout 2020. At first we met, as normal, in person and then in March we had to move to online meetings, still on a Thursday evening, still at 8 p.m. and, most importantly, still with wine! In between lockdowns we took the opportunity to meet in each others’ gardens, suitably warmly dressed and wrapped in snuggle blankets! We studied the Bible and- particularly important during lockdowns- we also used the opportunity to keep in touch, encourage one another and share prayer requests. In 2020 we did studies on Christian community, Old Testament characters and 1 & 2 Kings.

ORGAN RESTORATION 2020
How little did we realise when we held our concert on March 15[th] 2020 that we would enter into lockdown almost immediately. The concert was performed by Cantorelli and so aptly titled
“Exultate “which is defined as ‘ triumphant joy- as over success or victory’. Indeed at this point our target of £79,000 had been reached and we were ready to start the project. It is difficult to imagine how much the pandemic would have impacted on all our fundraising had we not reached this point.
At this stage we were able to appoint Spinks of Leeds as the contractors but initially they were not allowed to work in the Church. Eventually approval was given for the work to start under strict guidelines and we must thank Martin, our Vicar, Laurence Jones, our Churchwarden and Jeremy Plummer our organist for their support to the contractors.
Sadly, at the time of writing this report, we have had to put on hold the workshops we had planned with WOOFYT – Wooden One Octave Organ for Young People. This is a programme of music meeting technology with WOOFYT being a machine which resembles a very primitive pipe organ. We did hope to run this with our local junior school during the time that the organ was being restored. Hopefully this will happen in the near future.
However, the project is moving forward and we are confident that by the autumn of 2021 we shall be able to celebrate with a public concert to thank all the wonderful people and Trusts who have supported us. Jenny Lockwood and Pam Kelly
ST. MARY’S MOTHERS’ UNION, HONLEY.
This year has seen a huge change to the way the MU works. Firstly, we have had no AGM so far since last year’s first lockdown but the committee has changed even so. Jenny Barnes and Jennie Waind have
served as joint leaders to our branch but warned last year that it would be their last. So it is that we say thankyou to them for all their hard work serving our branch. Having taken some advice we have opted to run the branch as a committee.
We have ventured into Zoom meetings and have had two so far. They have been quite successful but unfortunately many of our members cannot access these. Notes provided by our speakers have been copied

and delivered to them by hand. We look forward to being able to meet up in the not too distant future.
Also a new venture, we have been praying for women’s issues, taking part in the 16 Days of Activism and the 7 Days of Prayer leading up to Mothering Sunday. For this event we tried pairing up members to discuss the issues and say the prayers together over the phone. Those who took part really enjoyed the chat and sharing with someone different!
Supporting the community continues with collections for Food Banks and knitting for Mothershare in Halifax. It is with sadness that we lost two of our members last year, Mary Stapleton and Marie Sykes. They are truly missed.
Thankyou everyone involved in keeping us going! Keep on reminding me if I seem to have forgotten anything!!

The following were therefore elected unopposed: Joan Oldfield , Paul Coleman , Laurence Trevor Jones , Richard Ashley.

1 Prayer: The previous meeting, the Annual Meeting of Parishioners, had opened with prayer

3 Minutes : The minutes of the meeting held on 28.4.19 were accepted as a true record of the meeting and signed by Martin.
4 Electoral Roll Report: Numbers on the roll : Parish of Honley with Brockholes 113. This was up by from the April 2020 revision of 110 and up from April 2019 total of 103 at the last full roll.
5 Annual Report: This was unanimously approved by the meeting with a note that the last part of the financial comments on page 28 were from the 2018 report, and the date on the PCC report should be 2019, not 2029.
6. Financial Statement: Clive Green referred to the annual report and noted an improvement in 2019 from 2018, and we continue to be going in the right direction, despite not meeting the full Parish Share. Giving was £4,000 better than 2019 and the first increase since 2015. Great progress on the organ fund with the full amount virtually reached in 2019. The Science and Faith project received a grant of £6,000, which was used in 2019 for the Honley JIN school project, and the prayer walk completed. Thanks to Roger and Pauline for their day-to-day work at both churches.
7 Churchwardens’ Reports: These were unanimously accepted by the meeting.
8 Safeguarding Report: Martin thanked Cate Ashley for her work as safeguarding officer. Cate reported that DBS for all PCC members was in progress and there were no instances of safeguarding to report in 2019.
9 Safeguarding Policy: The latest Diocese policy adopted by the PCC in 2019 and posted in both churches was put to the meeting for approval. This was approved unanimously.
10 Deanery Synod Report: This was unanimously accepted by the meeting.
11 Elections/Appointments: This year is when the deanery synod places are elected. We now have 4 places (was 5) and 3 applications were received from Jane Wardman, Graham Wardman and Charles Kaye. 1 place remains vacant. These were approved unanimously. Four places are available for the PCC, 2 from St. Mary’s, 2 from St. George’s. 1 application was received from Diana Kaye (2020 to 2023) and this was approved unanimously. 3 places remain vacant.
Clive Green proposed Langricks (Holmfirth) Limited T/A Michael Bell & Co as the Independent Examiners and this was approved unanimously.
Cate Ashley was proposed as Safeguarding Officer, which was approved unanimously. Now the Sidespeople are appointed by the PCC and this will be completed at the next PCC

meeting.
12 AOB: Martin advised the meeting of the induction of the new Churchwardens which will be completed this Sunday by himself. The next PCC meeting is on the 30[th] November. He expressed his sadness at all the people who died in the last year and asked us to remember them in our prayers.

Basis of Accounts Preparation
The financial statements of the PCC have been prepared in accordance with the Church Accounting Regulations 2006 using the Accruals basis and conform with the ‘Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice’ (SORP 2015), and the Charities Act 2011 and related Regulations.
Parish Funds
The PCC paid the full Diocesan Parish Share Request in 2020. The cumulative shortfall on Parish Share Request from previous years is £52,722. This is not a legally binding debt.
St Marys Funds
St Marys Fabric Fund includes £57,022 which represents the balance of the amount raised towards the restoration of St Marys Church organ. The restoration work is on-going, and there are sufficient funds to complete the project.
Unrestricted Funds are funds of the PCC that are not subject to any special restrictions regarding their use and are available for application to the general purposes of the PCC.
Restricted Funds are funds received or collected by the PCC for a particular purpose. The PCC is legally obliged to use those funds for that purpose.
Permanent Endowment Funds are funds given to the church with the specific instruction that only the income gained can be spent, not the capital.
Assets and Liabilities
The following assets are not valued in the Balance Sheet:-
