Thetrusteespresenttheirreportwiththefinancialstatementsofthecharityfortheyear ended
31December2021.ThetrusteeshaveadoptedtheprovisionsofAccountingandReportingby Charities:
StatementofRecommendedPracticeapplicabletocharitiespreparingtheiraccountsinaccordance with
the FinancialReportingStandardapplicablein the UK and Republicof Ireland(FRS 102)(effective1 January
2019).
OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES
Objectives and aims

1) To offer hope and encouragement to young people of any origin.... suffering the consequences of war, natural disasters, illness and other adversities.

2) To fight social exclusion and promote social integration.

3) To promote mutual understanding, dialogue and respect in accordance with Christian ethics.

OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES
Significant activities
AtthebeginningofthenewyearwewereallowedtotakepartintheinternationalJonas Christmas
calendar,whichendedonJanuary6th,onChristmasDayintheOrient.Everydayawindowcould be
openedontheJonaswebsitewithamusicalcontributionfromastudentoftheinternational Jonas
community.OurLondonprojectcontributedsignificantlytothisandthechildrenandyoungpeople had
enormousfunrecordingapieceofmusicontheirinstrumentandthensendingittoSwitzerlandwhere it
wasthendistributedonthecalendar.Thedailycuriositywhenthedoorswereopenedwasgreat,and the
pride was all the greater when it was their turn.
At the start of the spring term we were filled with hope and joy as we were again able to teach face to face.
The luck lasted until three weeks beforethe end of the term. In the midst of the preparationsfor our Easter
concert,alockdownwasannouncedagain,andsoweresumeddigitalclasses.Wehadmore experience
this time,but even if the changeoverwent smoothly,it was a hard blow for our children,who had regained
theircomposureinthepreviousweeksandwhosejoyinlifeandlearningwasregained.Toboost school
morale,we broke new ground:we decided to hold an EasterZoom concert.This gave some directionto the
onlinelessonsandthechildrennowhadanincentivefordailypracticeathomeagain.Wesentout about
50 Zoom invitationsfor the event and ended up with an audiencethat stretchedas far as the United States.
Onthedayoftheconcert,thechildrenpreparedthemselvesathomewiththehelpoftheirparents and
waitedpatientlyfortheirbigmoment.Asexpected,noteverythingwentaccordingtoplan,butitwas as
good as the technicalfacilitiesallowed.It gave the performingyoung musiciansa sense of achievement and
boosted their confidence.
Wewereallveryrelievedthatwewereabletogetbacktorelativelynormalschooloperationsat the
beginningofthesummerterm.DespitethemasksandthesocialDistancing,itfeltlikeaprivilegeto see
and hear each other face to face again. The individuallessonswent well and thanks to the large premises of
thechurch,it wasalsopossibletorehearsewitha fewensembles.Sinceneitherexamsnorconcerts could
takeplaceinside,we lookedfor an alternativeperformanceopportunityto givethe end of the school year
a worthyconclusion.An outdoorconcertin a publicplacelike a localpark turnedout to be impossibleas it
camewithtoomanyconditionsandrestrictions.Andsowewereverygratefulforaninvitationfrom St
VedastChurchtoholdourownprivateconcertin theircourtyard.Onthelastdayofschoolwe rehearsed
asusualatStMatthew'sinthemorningbeforewetookthebusovertothenorthsideofthe Thames.
Establishedin 1170andin theheartoftheCityofLondon,StVedastprovedabsolutelyideal.The concert
was a resoundingsuccess.Forthe firsttimein a yearit was possibleto performin frontof a live audience.
Sotherewasafeelingofnormality.Theyoungmusiciansobviouslyhadfunandtheyreally blossomed.
Onlynow,duringtheconcert,dideveryonerealizewhattheyhadmissedin thepastyear.The inspiration
spurredonthechildrenandyoungpeopleandsomeoutgrewthemselves.Satisfiedwithwhatthey had
achievedand withan increasedsenseof self-esteem,theywereableto leaveforthe schoolholidays. (The

Atthebeginningofthenewschoolyearwefoundourselvesinanunfamiliarsituation.Ahardcoreof 11
students,mostin theirteens,had formedduringthe pandemic.In the sametimeit was not possiblefor us
torecruitnewcomers.Afterthreeage-relateddepartures,wewouldhavestartedtheyearwithonly 8
students.Buttheschoolurgentlyneeded"newblood".Leafletswereprintedanddistributedtoall the
surroundingschools.And twoweeksbeforethetermsstarted,on a sunnyafternoon,teachersand alumni
gottogethertobuskat variouslocationsaroundElephant& Castle,aimingtogetthepublicexcited about
theJonasMusic-Project-at-the-Elephanttodrawattentionto.Moreleafletsweredistributedand many
passers-by,includingparentsofformerstudents,approachedus.Therecruitmentprogram was
tremendouslysuccessfuland by the third week of the term a totalof 27 studentshad enrolled,most under
10 years old.
In thelastweekof Septemberwe closedschooland tooktheparentson a triptoVauxhallCityFarm. The
goalwas to promoteunityand to give the childrenand youngpeoplethe opportunityto get closerto each
other.
During the year there has been the continuation of 2 projects:
A)TheJonasMusicProjectatElephantandCastle,aftertheyear2020,weexperiencedfresh enthusiasm
fromstudents(20-30pupils)andcommitmentfromteachers(4teachers).Wearegratefulto volunteers
fromtheAlumniwhodedicatetimeandenergytotheChildren'sChoir.Thesocialbackgroundof students
fullyjustifiestheteachingofmusicasameanofintegrationandsocialisation,somefamilieslive in
extremelychallengingconditions.Musiclessonresumedin 2021ata regularpace.An onlineconcert took
placeinSpring2021,itincludedrecorder(descantandtreble),piano,cello,fluteandclarinet.Ithas been
touchingto see the pupils give their best and feel happy about performingto others,even on the screen! A
liveconcertfinallytookplacein July2021in thecourtyardofStVedastChurch,in themiddleof London's
bustling city. We thanked Revered Paul Kennedy for his warm welcome!
Therehavebeenmorehappymoments,bringingtogethermumsandchildren.Liketheoutingto Vauxhall
City Farm in Autumn 2021 and a Christmas Carol Concert at St Matthews Church in December 2021.
B) Teachingmusicat a BarnadosProject'MeadowsSchool'in Kent.As specialcareschoolforchildren with
emotionaland behaviouraldifficulties.The JonasFoundationsupportscellolessons,underthe guidance of
PeterRayner.Teachingmusic'live'at MeadowsSchoolhad unfortunatelybeen interruptedin 2020,due to
theCoronaviruspandemic.WithpermissionfromtheMeadowsSchool,PeterRaynercontinued teaching
thecellototwopupilsonline.Thestudentsmadegoodprogresson thescreenand wereextremely happy
aboutplayingmusic.Theselessonswerediscontinued,duetothepupilsbeingmovedto new
environmentsandfamilies.PeterRaynerstartedgivingextramusictheory,mathsandbiology lessons
(online)tostudentsenrolledattheJonasMusicProject.TheextralessonstowardsGCSEand/or ALevel
exams, proved extremely helpful, all exams being passed.

ACHIEVEMENT AND PERFORMANCE Charitable activities
The Foundation's main activities are:
1)Providingandadvancingeducationtochildrenandyoungpeoplethroughthestudyofmusic, dance,
drama and art.
2)Providingsupportandactivitieswhichdevelopskills,capacitiesandcapabilitiestoenablechildren and
young people to participate in society as mature and responsible individuals.
3) Promotingactivitiesto fosterunderstandingbetweenpeoplefromdiversebackgroundsand cultivating a
sentiment in favour of equality and diversity.
These activities include the following:

The Charity carries out its activities in the following ways:

The charity operates in the UK as well as overseas. Work outside the UK includes the following countries:
Armenia,Cameroon,Congo,Egypt,Georgia,India,Israël,Japan,Kyrgyzstan,Madagascar, Occupied
Palestinian Territories, Russia, Rwanda, Switzerland, Ukraine
FINANCIAL REVIEW Reserves policy
The Foundation maintains sufficient reserves to cover its annual and future expenses.

Responsibilities and basis of report
AsthecharitytrusteesoftheTrustyouareresponsibleforthepreparationoftheaccountsin accordance
with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 ('the Act').
I reportin respectofmyexaminationoftheTrust'saccountscarriedoutundersection145oftheAct and
incarryingoutmyexaminationIhavefollowedallapplicableDirectionsgivenbytheCharity Commission
under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.
Independent examiner's statement
Ihavecompletedmyexamination.Iconfirmthatnomaterialmattershavecometomyattention in
connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect:
1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the Trust as required by section 130 of the Act; or
2. the accounts do not accord with those records; or
3. the accounts do not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a true and fair view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination.

1. ACCOUNTING POLICIES
Basis of preparing the financial statements
Thefinancialstatementsofthecharity,whichisapublicbenefitentityunderFRS102,have been
preparedinaccordancewiththeCharitiesSORP(FRS102)'AccountingandReportingby Charities:
StatementofRecommendedPracticeapplicabletocharitiespreparingtheiraccountsin accordance
withtheFinancialReportingStandardapplicableintheUKandRepublicofIreland(FRS 102)
(effective1January2019)',FinancialReportingStandard102'TheFinancialReporting Standard
applicableintheUKandRepublicofIreland'andtheCharitiesAct2011.Thefinancial statements
have been prepared under the historical cost convention.
Income
Allincomeis recognisedin theStatementofFinancialActivitiesoncethecharityhasentitlement to
the funds, it is probable that the income will be received and the amount can be measured reliably.
Expenditure
Liabilitiesarerecognisedasexpenditureassoonasthereisalegalorconstructive obligation
committingthe charityto that expenditure,it is probablethat a transferof economicbenefitswill be
requiredinsettlementandtheamountoftheobligationcanbemeasuredreliably.Expenditure is
accountedforonanaccrualsbasisandhasbeenclassifiedunderheadingsthataggregateall cost
relatedtothecategory.Wherecostscannotbedirectlyattributedtoparticularheadingsthey have
been allocated to activities on a basis consistent with the use of resources.
Taxation
The charity is exempt from tax on its charitable activities.
Fund accounting
Unrestrictedfundscanbe usedin accordancewiththecharitableobjectivesat thediscretionof the
trustees.
Restrictedfunds can only be used for particularrestrictedpurposeswithin the objectsof the charity.
