OV¢T 98 % of PAWA'S income from fundraising efforts have been reserved to support girl's educalion in Asia. By empowering women through fimding educaiion projects. PAWA aims: to raise funds annually for selccted local grass roots ¢ducational charities which directly benefit women and teenage girls in Asia. to rnise awareness among the gcneral public of the importance of bridging the gender gap in education hs a means to improve the lives of women and their families. to raise the profile of Asian wornen in the UK, as role models. by presenting thought- provoking events lo the general publi¢. The on-going Covid-19 pandemic restictions once again limited Ilve events howcver PAWA 5uc¢essfully connccted with friends and benefaclows via virnial Zoom evenls, In Comparison to 2020, donations were up from boih benefxtots and fri¢nds in 2021. PAWA was particularly fortunate ihis year to receive som¢ large donalion5 from individuals as well as gencrous contributions from several TTU￿5 and Foundaiions and COYPWiions. FUNDRAISING A￿1VITIEs How PAWA raised funds Ih PA WA started off 2021 on 10 FebTuary wilh the Annual Meeting via Zoom due to Covid safety prolocol. Th¢ highlight of the meeting was the vi(kos from some of the proje¢ts PAWA supports, Ponh¢ary Ly in Cambodia. Hope for Girls in Bangladesh. Aruna Bhawan in Nepal and Home of Peace in Malaysi& The videos and the tslk.from a couplc of PTojecl leaders on the ground 8av¢ supp)rters a glimpsc of thc many works PAWA does in Asia. While the Covid pandemic continue to curtail PAWA'S fundraising events for the year, PAWA continued to use online communications in its effort ¢0 reacb out to corporatC5. Patrons and Tru51 and Foundaiions. An excellent example was PAWA'S Big Tearn Chall¢ng¢ laun¢hcd on the 29, May asking people to walk 10.5(y)km in 40 days. The global walk initiative was ¥ huge success reaching their fund-raising goal of £20.Iy)O with 33 teams r¢presenling 133 supporters parti¢ipaling. On I l October PAWA held a Zoom event for"IDternaiional Day of (he Girl" with a talk entitled 'tshe Learning Deficit: lrnplications of the pandemic for girls. education" This was followed b.y PA WA'5 Arts Jams on 3￿ Nov¢mber with a priva* viewing of Mumbai-based arti5L Shilpa Gupta's works of art at Frith Stre¢t Gallery. PAWA had two champio￿$ evenls wilh entrepreneur Cynthia Wihardja who gave a business ¢oa¢hing talk via Zoom in March and Mina Alhaidary who did a Festive High Tea for FIWAL in December and donaied half the pro¢¢eds to PAWA. Additionally, PAWA received a large donation in USDollar by one of PAWA'S supporter's family to honour their young daughier. Serena who sadly passed away fforn cancer. The family sel up the SeT¢na Janssens Memorial Fund and also raised additional donations from Serena. friend5 and family lo PA WA which will go towards PAWA'S educational projects and a special universiry scholarship awarded by PAWA'S Tn￿le¢s. PAWA also benefiied ihis year because of continued commiiments of PAWA'S supporters who donated yearly to our charity as well a5 large donations from individuals, foundations and companies such as Euronext. PAN ASIAN WOMEN'S ASSOCIATION TRUSTEES* REPORT For the ye•r ended 31 December 2021 FINANCIAL REVIEW Due to Covid r¢striction and limited live fundraising events. PAWA iotal incomc continue to decrease for 2021 to £117,783 (from £159,447 in 2020). PAWA benefited from large donations from private individuals, as well as an increase in the number of PAWA corporate and INst supporters who through their own endeavours raiscd funds for PAWA. The charily Continues lo keep 2dministTativc costs at l ty/0 of net income because PAWA relies solcly on volunteers. PAWA'S cash funds have grown to £393,789 from £355.279 in 2020. The healihy reserve Eave PAWA room 10 give more in 202110 various educational project as well as providing additional Covid-19 ¢mergen¢y funding for another year. The reserves also give PAWA the flexibility of Continuing to support existing projects for longer periods. minimizing uncxpected upheavals and instabilities. At 31 December 2021, £390 still remains in Teslricicd funds awailing io fund another educational project in South Korea. How PA WA minimises costs As PAWA is run primarily by volunteers. its annual adminislTation costs are kept lo an absolut¢ minimum. The costs of PAWA events were also kept very low with the Costs of venue. staff and drinks being incurred only when it was necessary. In 2021 PAWA'5 Cost of generating funds (excluding currency losses) wer¢ less than thc prcviou5 year ai £l.187 (from £1.771 in 2020). This could not be done wiihout the dedication of our many lalenied volunieers who are the heart and soul of our organisation. How PA WA minimised risk As a policy. PAWA has alway5 maintained at least 51Y/o of ils annua] income in its bank accounls as a reserve of sinking fund foT unexpe￿¢d ¢osls andlor for possible future investments on its gr0￿h. This provides PAWA wilh sufficient reseNes to fvlfil its commitments lo all of its commilted projects should unforeseen 8lobal disrnptions and instabilities occur and curtail PAWA'S effort to fundraise in the near future. This reserv¢ is mainlaincd in a separate 5avin85 account. It remains available for use in any event the charity's current account nu)s low.
